This is so like OrangE. Cornering some poor defenseless little guy and forcing him to listen to him talk about something other than Dont Starve. Props to him.
I want to add details about psychology that this game touches on. It goes on the disorder DID, dissociative identity disorder. Goldie's rough childhood, and possibly even the demon king's own influence, made her personality break. Fleta was made so that Goldie wasn't thought to be spoiled, this one is a bit harder to figure out where she came from other than that. Harpae came from, as you said, the too high of expectations her father had, and the pure primal fear of having things thrown at her by her father. Her blindness can also be thought to be due to Harpae wanting to run away from realizing she *isn't Goldie.* That face in the mirror wasn't hers, and she made herself blind so that the mind couldn't break further. Lisette came from both Fleta and Harpae, all of their negative emotions, and the fact that Lisette couldn't handle the trauma she was forced to hold, as the other two tried to reject it. These three can be each, in order, considered as a little (child), a protector and caregiver, and a trauma holder and persecutor (unlike what the name and media suggests, they usually lash out at themselves, believing they're at fault for everything and should die, often leading to suicide attempts). DID causes ameniac barriers between alters, so that the brain cannot fully realize that it is not whole, and not retraumatize the person. This whole story can also be seen as Goldie going through therapy and coming to terms with her personalities, and presumably having all of them become whole again, as with therapy theoretically, you can do so, at least until another traumatic event happens, where the brain splits again, as it worked before, so surely it should now All in all, this game is one of the best ways to show how DID works in real minds that a person who doesn't have DID can make
@@bluepikminlover Of course! The game was a big driving factor that drove me to be so interested in psychology, and it helped me learn more about DID and other dissociative disorders in a fun way in game form
In fact, Fleta didn't come about because Goldia was spoiled, as the video suggested. The Witching Hour ending makes it clear that Goldia felt lonely in her home, and Fleta came about to fill that gap, fulfilling Goldia's desire for escapism. Through Fleta, Goldia has the opportunity to be the child she truly is.
@@lovelysakurapetalsyt I don't think Lisette emerged specifically from Fleta and Harpae, but from the whole system. It is Goldia who appears in her theater, just as it is Goldia who wanted a friend (Fleta) and a protector (Harpae). Lisette mainly accuses Goldia of all the suffering. Lisette represents everything Goldia denied about herself, while Goldia chose to live in the fantasy that Fleta provided her and had her responsibilities taken care of by Harpae.
Fleta didn't appear because Goldia was spoiled by her family, but rather as a way for Goldia to no longer feel alone, as the Strange Boy makes clear in the Witching Hour end. DID is a response to trauma - which is, in this case, the environment of a dysfunctional family, as told by the devs themselves, not the curse directly. When compared to the other alters, Fleta is Goldia's only opportunity to be a child. Throwing Fleta's friendship away is betraying herself.
10:17 This doesn't make much sense here. The entire game takes place years after Elise's death (Henri made the deal with the demon when he was still a child and only after Elise's death, while Goldia is around 20 years old in the real world according to the devs), but if you're talking about Harpae's origin, this cannot be the case because Elise appears in Harpae's theater. To me, Harpae looking older would be merely symbolism.
17:40 This is not possible as Harpae could see that Goldia's cardigan was missing a button. Her blindness consists of her choosing what she wants to see and what she doesn't want to see, an allusion to the shield Goldia/Harpae created to protect herself from her trauma and everything that is inconvenient for her.
16:44 I think the scene of the family members saying "you're not my xxx" is in the sense that they don't recognize their daughter anymore. The theater makes an analogy of Goldia as a white swan and Harpae as a black swan, referencing the ballet Swan Lake. PM seems to use this to get the message across that Harpae is incapable of replacing Goldia no matter how hard she tries. She could never meet everyone's expectations at the same time and that is her failure.
As for the murder in the third floor of Harpae's area, I believe it is a way of showing how hostile the environment the Heilige family are in is. It's full of fake, deceitful people and enormous pressure. The dresses are very similar to those worn by the women in Henri's theater as well.
2:06 I don't think the demon caused Goldia's memory loss. Sure, he has a great control over the dream reality and is even able to present Goldia's memories to her (through theaters, for example), but Goldia is not in his hands (until he finally wins). Memory loss is a symptom of DID and is what Goldia already experienced through her alters much before the game. In my opinion, the Goldia we play as is just a victim of this, being just the reflective part of Goldia that, after being dormant for so long, wants to rediscover herself, with the pocket mirror being the tool that would allow her to reverse her situation. But, like all the other alters, she would be nothing more than an illusion. One piece of evidence is in the dialogue with Lisette in her good ending: "All I ever did was pretend, and even Enjel... Even I might just be part of this delusion..." Actually, when the Strange Boy was in pumpkin form in Lisette's area, he even told Goldia to "stop faking it"...
For those who don’t know what lil miss goody two shoes is like Here’s a mild “to get you into it” Elise is bratty but you genuinely start to love her though the story and sympathize with her, it really makes you think about how you saw her in pocket mirror, also the games very gay
I am conflicted. On one hand, I want to watch OrangE man's new videos and give him the appreciation he deserves. On the other hand, the fact he is making these videos about these games wants me to not spoil myself of the experience which OrangE deems worthy of a vid.
Play Pocket Mirror please I beg Play Little Goody Two Shoes too (Pocket Mirror’s prequel) especially because it’s both adorable and psychologically horrifying at the same time (and there are gay girls) You can play them in whichever order you want, as someone who’s played both to completion.
you know what? i like the new direction OrangE took, making commentary videos about niche yet interesting horror games. (i will forever miss Don't starve)
OH MY GOD YOU’VE NOT ONLY HEARD OF POCKET MIRROR BUT YOU DID A VIDEO ON IT I WOULD DIE FOR YOU i mean uh thank you for this I appreciate you discussing this hidden gem of a a game
Btww the murder and investigation thing gets even weirder when you consider that in the 2016 version you investigate a murder TWICE. At the nuit setpice, and at the segiment where you need to find miss fox's and mister rabbit's limbs
I watched this video twice because of how much I like it. Switching up content can be one of the hardest things for a youtuber but I'm hoping you find success cause I've loved your longer form videos. Keep it up man!
wow, this rpg anime game has some interesting lore man, i like what each personality represent's of the main character's life with the demon's curse, btw i like a lot the design of the strange boy (the demon's personification), still cutes anime but still evil and creepy u know, a good balance, anyways good vid orange and more dont strave videos or something idk, cya
This was an awesome video! The way you voiced some dialogue was fun. I love learning about more obscure stuff like this and Needy Streamer. Otherwise, I would've just never known about them. Looking forward to the follow-up. :D
I can't really relate with getting robbed of life. It would be frustrating, but maybe that's why the mother made the deal in the first place. She was poor and felt robbed of life, but the deal made the same situation happen again
Honestly I enjoy your personality and commentary so much idek what this game even is and I enjoy you yapping about it for half an hour. Bravo OrangE Starve Alone
I thought I was tripping when I saw this video in my subscriptions. I genuinely thought this was an older video of yours or smth, not so recent! I love Pocket Mirror. I watched and rewatched gameplay of it on RU-vid when I was younger and when the GoldenerTraum remaster came out, I played it for myself! Thanks for covering this game, it’s very nostalgic for me.
I feel like the last ending you mentioned was pretty bad if not the worst one there. You practically gained all the girls bad traits. You learn nothing useful and then get rewarded for it so you could do all the mistakes your mother did again.
While I'll miss the dst content, I'll still remain for new Orange awesome content. Its not like Dont Starve is going to still be deep inside our hearts, trying to call out to us in these new videos.
YA THANK YOU ORANGE this game means a lot to me! Reviewing different games broke the monotony from the old DST content I subbed for. Genuinely hope you have the same fun as I had watching it ❤ I'll always stay subbed to orangE! Yapping of appreciation: Indie RPG games aren't appreciated by the mainstream who love gameplay reviews, yet there is an audience who loves games specifically for their lore (almost falls to the horror-visual novel area). PM and LGTS are a great fit for 2024, since the dev just recently updated it (well, 1yr ago). They're loved in the bubble for AstralShift's signature artstyle and storytelling. For PM specifically, Goldia is a good rep for people with DID. 😂 It seemed like the writer(s) had done a decent amount of research about this condition, despite having added horror elements as a factor! Maybe you can also review other still-recent-or-memorable-titles...? Like, Red Candle's games (Nine Sols, Detention, Devotion), Fear & Hunger, Witch's House, Bonnie's Bakery, To The Moon & sequels (freebird games, not nft slang aghhghgh), Rule of Rose (which is kinda cursed in gameplay/graphics but the lore is much less unsettling lol)
Ngl I’ll add my 2 cents. If I had the choice between playing tf2 for another decade vs an rpg maker game I’d choose to be bored with tf2. It’s like… playing games like that Is literally the act of reading a book where the only gameplay sections are you turning pages really slowly. Where’s other games at least FEEL like your shaping the story in some way or another. Man I wish this was for me because of orange. But I’d lose my sanity if I play such games on a regular.
I'm gonna be honest, I could listen to anything you ramble about. I can see you putting some effort to these videos, they are well though, especially compared to the generic "this game good here why" types of videos. Never change Orang, only improve. Love, me 👊🐖
(Haven't played the game so this is just interpreting the vid) So, my interpretation of why the last ending leans into the magical side: bc Enjel wasn't a part of her, Goldia accepting her meant she lost who she really was, rendering the purpose of the pocket mirror useless, losing herself, and completing her curse. The magical things that happen are in her mind, peacefully passing away as the demon takes her life. In the end, she (her soul probably) is reunited with her mother in a cabin in the woods, living similar to how it was in Goodie Two Shoes. This may be her mother's personal hell, as she made the deal in the 1st place to escape her previous monotone life. Bc they both were connected through this curse, they both get to be in the same place as an afterlife of sorts TLDR: Last ending may be Goldia succumbing to the curse and is reunited with her mother in the afterlife
What if the murder mystery also represents the 3 personalities? The victim and the 2 culprits all wear white dresses after all. Lisette is probably the victim
I have never heard of this game but I will watch this video because it was made by the funny orange man Seriously I love your videos, they blend comedy and serious discussion pretty well
I finished watching this and it makes me wonder if one of the ending implies that Goldia made the same mistake that Elise (her mother) did. DOES THAT IMPLIES THE HAPPY ENDINGS THAT ELISE HAVE IN LITTLE GOODY TWO SHOES IS WHERE GOLDIA WAS SUFFERING DUE TO MAKING THE SAME MISTAKE?
I thought the “all hail he pumpkin king” was a nightmare before Christmas reference, since Jack (the main character from the nightmare before Christmas.) is considered the pumpkin king.
I’ve always had this game at the back end of my backlogs of games to play, glad I don’t need to now though, as there are a bunch of other games I need to play as well
Now OrangE... you must dive in multiple rabbits holes to find out the deepst of lore which could turn into 5 hour long videos and I have one ready for you!!! Lobotomy Coporation, Library of Ruina, Limbus Company. 3 seperate games set in the same universe, with all having ties to the lore of project moon. (also I think you will get good views because haha funny sleeper agents activation) Otherwise good luck on your journey once again OrangE you will be the biggest hit in explaining videogames and their lore/history 👍
10:31 my older brother is an absolute fucker, he choked me, beated me, says i'm stupid and that he's better than me, he doesn't help me with school at all and i know there's a part of him that actually cares and loves me, but i really just want him to become a better person, not just to me, but to everyone.
I don't know about anything in this game lorewise other than this video but seems like the lady that was murdered was proably the mother and despite selling her child she was still seen as poor
