James Bourchier was an Irish journalist who wrote for "The Times", born in Limerick. He was very fond of Bulgaria and his articles were always in favour of the country and the unfair treatments it got after WW1 and the Second Balkan War. There's more written on the wikipedia article about him, but I think links cannot be shared on youtube comments. He still is the only foreigner to be buried in the Rila Monastery which is actually a very honourable place to get buried at, being the largest monastery in the country and the Balkan peninsula and also being sacred in historical terms too.
Always find it so interesting the variety of architecture found in various locations around the world...and the materials used as well. Keep up the great tours!!
I will tell you why boyana church is so important....-it is because of the paintings of real people faces (before that churches used to paint random faces not of real people but some face with crowns and tiaras of some saint for example)and it is about the renesance wich started actually here in balkans four decades before it was thought before .....so it didnt start in itally and this church is a proof for that ,it was nearly demolished by boyana villagers ,but our queen eleonora saw the beautiful paintings and ask the tzar-ferdinand-to save it....the queen grave is in the church yard
