Ants, that 3rd building is calling your name... Thanks for a great tour. Estonia is a fascinating place, and the countryside is beautiful. Please give us more views of your area.
The last building is similar to the old water mills here in northern Spain, they used the power of the water to turn the milling stones to grind cereals into flour. They would partially dam the pond to raise the water level then when the grain was ready they would use the extra water power to extend the working day, at night they would dam it up again ready for the next day.
Sad indeed, heart bleeds for the second building, turns out the middle roon was used as a grain drier, fireplace without a chimney is why the logs are black, wich means the building anywhere from 100 to 150 yr old.
I am sure walking around those places brought back many memories. Watching this made me remember buildings where I live that are falling down. It's amazing how things will change in just a few years. It would be nice to explore Estonia someday. Thanks for taking us on this journey. Until next time take care my friend.
Ants Pants thank you very much for the tour. You have certainly delivered on your promise. I couldn't help but to visualise the hustle and bustle in the times gone by...all the memories made in those homes that is now left up to the elements
Andris, I have been watching your videos for 3 days now and I must say, I am impressed with your mechanical abilities. Is there nothing that you can not do? I think if there is, it wouldn't take you long to learn how. Anyway, interesting old buildings. It's a shame a lot of those materials that could be reused are going to waste. Keep those videos coming. I really enjoy them.
Another great video. I love going around the small villages here in Ontario, Canada to find old buildings, churches and cemeteries. So much history there. Thanks for sharing.
Fascinating, and sad that those buildings will soon be gone. But great the local building style is being preserved on at least one of the properties nearby 😀 Keep up the hard work, and the extra time it takes to share with us 👍
Hey I ran across your videos and started watching your old log cabin restoration series. I just love it I always wanted to learn to do wood work but I never had any family members that really knew how to do any woodwork. They were good at other things but not woodwork. Seems like you certainly are! You must not be afraid of snakes I would never have walked through all that vegetation as you called it. We have several varieties of poisonous snakes where I live in the United States. I think you have a great dry sense of humor. Hard to believe you're not a people person as you said.
Hey Sharon, Glad you find my videos useful. Personally i have never seen a snake in my life and iv been a country dude for ever... here in Estonia we don't really have any hardcore snakes, i think we do have one snake that is kinda poisones but, not that bad. Take care!
Very good Ant you make a good tour guide. I guess that guy doesn't smoke in bed any more eh. But shouldn't you be getting back to cutting firewood? you must be down to you last 30 truck loads of wood by now.
Thanks for the tour Andris! The countryside you live in looks very similar to my own here in Eastern Canada although the structures are considerably different. That last building was puzzling. Cheers!
@@Ants_Pants I don't know f you ever watch or follow Disc Golf but one of your fellow Estonians won the Female Professional Open World Championships this weekend. Kristin Tattar absolutely smashed it and in wonderful style. What a beautiful human. You answered one of my comments before when I said you could have an excellent Disc Golf course on your property, it's no joke. Keep up the great videos, your wit and dry humor are right up my alley.
Hi. I came across your channel about a month ago. Absolutely love it. This is a really fun and interesting channel. I hope you have great success going forward. Can’t wait for more on the giant tractor.
Thank you for taking the time to make this tour. The last one was really amazing. Maybe they were planing to make it a hotel or an inn, that's why they made that huge footing. It would be cool to see how would it look if finished.
That was a fantastic tour! Those buildings were totally awesome! Thank you very much for sharing this with us! If you get the chance to tour more buildings sometime, please do!
When you said "I wonder how many ticks I'll get by the end of the day" you sounded like your T's are D's and I laugh cried for a minute. Thx for sharing. Love to see what the rest of your village looks like too.
Awesome vid dude, was hoping youd get around to doing this one! Its a shame seeing those buildings and their materials go to waste though but I understand its not really worth the effort trying to salvage bits of them.
Thanks for the tour man. I grew up in a small village, the most fun I had when younger was entering unopened abandoned building. I found treasures there and had tonne of fun with my mate drinking homemade alcool left behind ahah. Cheers
This was fun, to see the old buildings where you grew up❣ Are there any in better shape? Would love to see more of the village. Thank you for taking the time to show us the wonderful history there❣
Yeah there are a quite a few households nearby, one has even a active horse farm, i dont know alot of them though, only been in contact with 4 households in the area.
Thanks for the history and the tour, bet that last building was meant to become a hotel (judging from the size of the septic tank in the background). I agree with c c below, grab your tools, you can probably get it finished in 3 or 4 weeks 😀
The one built on the river would have most likely been a mill and the river would have powered a water wheel, could have also been used as a small hydro electric station for electricity
Interesting to see different cultures, the third place would've been massive. So why did everyone leave, and did they mostly leave together. What keeps you and your family there. Thanks for sharing.
Nothing tbh, theres nothinf to keep us there i stay there because i love being at the countryside, but sometimes i live at a flat because my job is in a city.
Interesting - and sad too. The 3rd building would have been spectacular with the pond and stream. SO sad it isn't completed - and so much material gone to waste. And the burning question is...how many ticks?
I find it so sad that the buildings are just left to rot. I find it criminal that the building materials in the 3rd building are left behind. The clay walls are really interesting. Hope you weren't too tick infested. Thanks for the tour.
Thanks ant's,very interesting .The pond building looks like it could have had a water wheel maybe something industrial? Thanks pal always fun & entertaining.PS haven't commented for a while been busy.I'm curious what do you do for a living or trade if to personal I understand.
Thank you so much for sharing your village with us and it was nice seeing the way things are built and surprising how much building was left in the clay building. I have to ask you about the infrastructure around there. Are the roads mostly paved or crushed rock?
I would like to tell you I appreciate your content, and you are HILARIOUS! Your English is fantastic too, I didn't realize you were in Estonia until I dug into your channel a little more, did you ever live in the USA? What is your main profession? When you refer to money in the videos are you referring to USD? THANK YOU.
Thank you 😜, nope never lived in usa, main profession is shift supervisor @ a local plywood factory, yes i refer to USD. Their same value with the eur right now
yup, but then again, entire Estonia is mostly covered in the stuff lol. Cheap and long lasting material, as it was advertised in the soviet union days... Well they weren't wrong :D the stuff does last for a very long time and also it was dirt cheap... so everyone got it installed on their roofs
Well its the same all the world over county life is in decline young people leave for the big citys. And its such a shame, the things you do with your projects stands as a shining example to everyone thankyou and keep up the great videos bro.
Thanks Martin glad you feel that way. 👍 you know your absolutely right about young people leaving for citys, cant blame em though thats where all the work is.
Thnx for the historyal journey. If U have the time on some point, will U show buildings that is habital and for sale, I for one, will be happy! Stay safe my friend!
15:44 - that's the room where grain was stored and dried in ancient times before it was threshed .. these houses originally didn't have chimneys and all the smoke from the oven was vented out through special holes in the walls .. that's why it still looks and smells like a smoke-sauna in there .. hundreds of years of smoking, lol The last one is an abandoned watermill .. the owner has obviously passed away .. pity .. such a cool project will be lost. 24:02 - well that's a dam to raise the water level .. there would've been a proper lake, not a house. Thx for the tour ✌
that was great. do you think that the house that was built on the stream was made to be a Watermill? maybe somebody was planning to use it as a power source? it really is a shame to see all of the building materials not being used
Hello Ants, it's sad to see small villages being abandoned more and more. The last building looks like a former water mill. In the passage under the house was the waterwheel, but that must have been a long time ago. It's a pity that the last owner didn't manage to finish the construction of the house because then it would have been very nice. If the German politicians continue to ruin our country, I'll consider emigrating to Estonia, for example. Greetings from Berlin
My mom told me long time ago it was a private home, some guy lived there with his family. Maybe the building also had a watermill purpose. What happend to this familiy and their children i do not know.
It's always disappointing to see heritage and history left to ruin, it has happened all over the civilized world - but if not for those few who discover it, preserve & restore it, before it's gone. 👍
It's a shame that so many buildings is rotting away, and it its single village, I'm living in a log-house that was once saved and moved, and I'm hoping to find, buy and move some log-barn, but they are getting rarer... Also, finances :D I don't know what paperwork is involved in getting your buildings fixed, but if I would like to move some barn or house, paperwork will cost me more that building itself (buing logs from that building on original site)
Hi Ants. I think the second house's middle room with smoky logs were grain dryer(rehetuba). There used to be oven without chimney-that's why logs higher than oven's upper door are black from soot. Is it possible, that third building is built on an old bridge or somebody tried to renovate some old watermill?
The concrete dam, could it perhaps have been used for dipping cattle to get rid of parasites? I am very inquisitive and would love to scratch around the stuff left in the buildings!
maybe? Its possible, i mean there are tons of mosquitos all over the place. Especcially around standing bodies of water where they multiplie like crazy.
Matthew 11:28-30 King James Version 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
I had a friend who had a house built over a stream. Historically, this was used as hydro-power, as in mechanical power, not electrical generation. I suggested they look at a micro-hydro generator. I think they ended up blocking it off.
Talking about the 3rd place. I think its left behind because the owner problaly had health problems or something. Money he had because of all the materials thats left.
This was fascinating; thanks for taking us on the tour, That building on the stream was amazing. Some very rich nature-lover was clearly building a dream-mansion. Reminds me of the poem "Ozymandias" by Shelley.
very interesting video, sad that they are just abandoned to rot away. what does it mean by the bricks only for indoors? are they hand made and never been fired, only good for paving a floor?
Indoor bricks. Basically they dont like freezing weather. Their fine for rain but once the bricks soak up water and freeze in the wintertime. Small chucks will break off the bricks. They will last around 5 years outside before their ruined by cracks.
those cast iron pots will last over 100 yrs. Concrete hole-- shallow well? Cistern? 3 rd building-- Mill for grain? That chanell under the building would of contained the water flow.
The derelict remnants of a by-gone era have always fascinated me. My mind can imagine it as it was, but I still wonder why a vibrant community simply dies. Was this perhaps the result of the collapse of the Soviet Union? I’d love to hear your thoughts. So many lives forgotten to time.
Young folk go where the work is>Old folk are left behind>old folk die out>young folk either sell the property or leave it for ruin. I would understand the second building why it has been left like that, the roofing has asbestos so removing that on a building in a state as such would be a expensive undertaking.
@@Ants_Pants my love for history and culture cries out for me to come rescue them, but unfortunately I have my own homes currently being brought back to life for a new family to make memories. Thank you for sharing this. Perhaps one day I can fulfill my desire to travel to Eastern Europe and explore my family’s past.
First house…..Reminds me of the movie Aliens, looks like everyone left in the middle of dinner…That bread doesn’t look like it is 2 years old? Perhaps Chernobyl bread?
No idea😅 it looked like whiteish i was too afraid to look closer. About the aliens... I just recently finished watching the franchise 😅 it was good. Didnt like the last 2 movies though that much.
@@NilsKall what? How 2? Theres alien, aliens, alien 3, alien resurrection, prometheus and alien covenant, unless we are talking about different things then theres definitely more then 2. Lets also not forget about all the alien vs predator movies that take place in the same universe.
