Discovered in 1990 actually by a local hunter, but he didn't have the equipment to abseil down the entrance hole where he felt a breeze. He actually discovered 2 caves. The first being En Cave which is the main entrance to Han Son Doong.

I don't know why people keep saying this cave was just discovered. There has been a town on the back side of the hill leading up to the look down into the cave for hundreds of years. And when we visited more than twenty-five years ago there was a visitors center and a house on the opposite side of the hill. Everyone keeps saying this was discovered in the 90's and I don't know where they get that from but we visited in the 80's and there was already a visitor center.

@nrdas8912
@nrdas8912 11 месяцев назад
@@keent It was 1984 I was with a team looking for survivors, slaves, captives and remains. I had flown by helo over the hill back in 1968 and this was a jungle with cane and thatch villages. In the late 60's we were told there were NVC hiding in the hole and we flew over a few times but never saw anyone. To say this area was "discovered" is strange because during the war this was an active area. In 84 we landed about 2 Km from the hill and walked to the hill and to the top. I was with a team and there was already a roughly cleared trail from the little village at the base. We hired teenagers as guides up the hill because they knew the way. There was no thought of going down inside. On the rim there was an old couple in a tiny thatch hut that we were told the man was a convict escaped and lived there to avoid society. His wife took two dong payment for a little walk around tour. Whatever became of those pictures forty years ago I have no idea. The term "discovered" is equally as incorrect as Columbus discovering America where two million natives already lived for thousands of years.

Son Doong, an extraordinary cave, boasts colossal chambers and a surreal beauty. Its colossal dimensions house an underground river and diverse ecosystems. As the world's largest cave, its intricate formations and unique biodiversity make it a testament to the grandeur of nature.
@jimjones395
@jimjones395 Год назад
Wrong. It is not the world's largest cave... it is the largest open area in a cave. Mammoth cave in Ky is the largest cave system in the world withvover 200 miles mapped and they just discoveted a whole new section. My family discovered it on their land way way back and donated the land to the state to be a park. My uncle Hamilton "ham" ran the hotel there for decades.

It is gorgeous. Went there as a child. I loved caves and went through many as we traveled the States a lot. Very cool that your Family discovered it. Even Cooler that they donated it for everyone to see.😁 A Colorado Mountain Grandma USA 💜✌️🌏🌎🌍
@salubriousflow
@salubriousflow Месяц назад
Mammoth-Flint Ridge cave system is spectacular in length but doesn't come remotely close to the biodiverse complexities, natural dynamism and karst formations of Han Son Doong. The cave in Vietnam houses some plants within the dolines that remain evergreen but are deciduous in the external environment. Over 200 species of plant life live there. Also, 7 new species of animals have been discovered within the cave ranging from scorpions, fish, millipedes, spiders and woodlice. There's a river system flowing right through the cave as well with a natural beach. This is why Han Son Doong is a special natural marvel and more tourists covet this cave over your Uncle's backyard lol.
