In this video, I explore the main level of the Kennedy Mine. This mine is a fairly small gold mine located in the desert. The mine's history is spotty and its production volume is unknown.
The mine was likely discovered in the early 1900's and was totally abandoned in the late 1950's. The mine was worked on two primary levels. The lower level was not visited during this trip due to time constraints. The upper level has two adits, one is caved and inaccessible.
Inside the mine I find many large stopes and a maze of tunnels winding in all directions inside the mountain.
I estimate the upper level to have about 2500-3000ft of underground workings. The lower level consists of a long crosscut and nothing much else.

“Gly”: Interesting, I could still see allot of rusty quartz in areas they left behind. Chances are there probably is still some good gold up in one of those stopes. Those dead end drifts were probably going to be future haulage adits and more ore shoots as they worked along the deposit.

KNOWN ISSUE: Clicking sounds from my camera. This is a known issue, however the cause is not full understood. It is not a lens cap making the noises. I believe the noises are caused by my hand moving near the camera’s mic plus my panel light vibrating as I move the camera around. Unfortunately, I have a lot of footage where this issue had not been addressed, there will be several additional videos where this noise is noticeable. I apologize for the annoyance.

Apologies I didn't go back through all the previous video comments, didn't mean to cause offence, I love the videos and have watched them all, just never commented before so again apologies.

Lyn B No problem! I get a lot of comments about it so I like to cover my bases by making sure that everyone knows I’m aware of the issue. Thanks for your support!

Great video. I really enjoy all your exploration. I slid love to know how the stopes and raises were cut. Are the adits blasted and how did they keep their regular shape?

You ever going to check out that big Mine on the Oregon California border I emailed you the Cords to, a buddy flew his ultralight over and said several audits looked open. Due to disability I can't go, if you're not into it maybe TVR would be so if you still have the Cords.please give to TVR This old Lode Miner sure loves your adventures so please keep em coming.

This mine is right next to where I grew up! Interesting history with it and the Argonaut mine up the hill. Tragedy nonetheless but still a great experience to document!

This is not Kennedy Mine in Jackson Cal. The mine in Jackson Ca. is full of water and was the largest mine in Northern America. He said this was a small mine and didn't know how much gold was removed. Kennedy Mine in Jackson is over 5000 feet deep.

It’s interesting to know that no voice echoing indicates unstable rock. You’re a brave soul for continuing on, especially alone! How do you determine that it’s safe enough to continue, or do you just take your chances? Best wishes from Reno, NV.
@MinesoftheWest
@MinesoftheWest 5 лет назад
Gina Enright It’s an odds game. But the probability of a collapse occurring at the exact moment you’re walking under is extremely low. The probability increases depending on the quality of rock. The other thing to think about is; if the rock is prone to collapse, it probably already would have. It’s not an exact science, but that’s my general thought process.

Just watched your argonaut mine videos. Still curious on how one would get into these mines. I’m local to the area and have heard that there is no possible way but after seeing your videos there must be.?

This was a good mine - lots of interesting features in there... And, of course, it was dry too! Is this the one that you visited on the way to meet me on our last trip? Or is this from an entirely different trip?

What are the coloured strips of material pinned to the wall/ceiling you so often see in mines? Are they to indicate strong air-flow or something?
@MinesoftheWest
@MinesoftheWest 5 лет назад
GermaneRiposte Those pink tags are sample locations. Previous claim holders took and assayed samples from those locations marking them for future reference.

Have you ever considered making like 15-20 minute audio recordings from deep inside some of these mines? Struck me that it would be pretty great relaxation/meditation white noise. All that water dripping/echoing and whatnot :)

The stone stull was really cool. It would've been a cool still. Thank you. Have you sold the bohemian claim? Cancer stopped by in my life and it delayed my plans a little. My intention was to build a home at that site and slowly refurbish the mine in the meantime while trying to sort out how one could collect freegold in these tight restraints of the epa.

That gobbing, incredible! There is a new mine channel out of Mojave that said the BLM will let you have a key to visit these illegally closed mines if you ask nice and have the necessary gear and abilities to enter the mines. Sounds fishy to me. I think this guy might be a plant so be careful exchanging information. Take care Oregon love
@MinesoftheWest
@MinesoftheWest 5 лет назад
Dirk Diggler I’m really sorry to hear that, I hope you kick cancer’s ass! Yes the mine is still for sale, we’ve both moved out of state so we haven’t been pushing it all that much.

Nice explore! Looks nice and dry in there,and the timbering looks in pretty good shape,apart from the broken rungs on the ladders. I am always intrigued about those deep Winzes. Thanks for the share.
@MinesoftheWest
@MinesoftheWest 5 лет назад
Yes winzes like that are always tempting. According to the mine maps, that winze dead ends in nothing, it doesn't even connect to a level. That could be inaccurate now though...Thanks for watching!

@MinesoftheWest
@MinesoftheWest 5 лет назад
Mike Coker There were a few branches I didn’t film, none ended in anything interesting. As far as the winze goes, I probably wont revisit that, the maps I have indicate that the winze doesn’t even connect with a lower level.

I always wonder how they stopped the ore coming out of the shoots with those boards without getting hurt?!? It must have been one of those sketchy jobs that everyone dreaded. Unless they had another system and those boards were just put in when the mine closed. I don't think that's the case though as some of these mines look as if they had every intention of mining the next day!
