I like longer videos. Wine is a hobby and there is no reason to be as efficient as possible with my hobbies. I like to watch a video while I take a tea break, or when I have a glass of wine after work, so for me there is no reason to keep those videos under 10 minutes or whatever.
This brings back a lot of memories! So many nice wines we had the chance to taste there... nice video to learn more about CDP and get nice wine recommendations ! 😀
Matthew great work, lovely to be catching up on this now. I’ve probably had white CdPs more often than reds in recent years. Appreciate how much it takes to put out an excellent video like this.
Thanks Vlad. I’m a big fan of CdP Blanc too. Thanks for stopping by. I think there might be a few videos like this that you may have to catch up on. Have a great weekend
The Rhône was the region that first captivated me, although it was more CdR than CdP at the time. Having visited the region and met a few producers myself, it is still very special to me. This may be your finest video yet. Nice work. Did you also visit Gigondas? Another favorite wine of mine, and a spectacular village.
Great work, I really enjoyed the style of the Video. I've never stumbled across such a story telling production of a wine channel. I got to know your channel from Konstantin Baum, who recently mentioned you in one of his Videos alongside Jay from Wineking. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this, best regards from Germany!
Danke!!! Hope you are well. There is an episode coming out on Germany. (I LOOOVVVE German wines). There are other videos like this on the channel as well
I’ve been to nearly all of Germany’s wine regions but unfortunately havent been to Baden (although I enjoy the producers there). Also, Konstantin lives there.
It's the third time I watch this video, always coming back for new impressions. Funny is, that I already bought wine from Vinadea. They do have a nice online shop and are very trustworthy, best shop for Chateauneuf in the world, even if you are located elsewhere!
Just a few years ago, i got to try my first CDP. Domaine la Mereuille CDP 1999. At the time i drank it for the first time, it was already 20 years old and it was beautiful. It was love at first taste. Now, I have an absolute obsession with CDP regardless of the maker. I hope to go to the region one day and taste some of the best ones available.
Lovely appellation! My first to visit (1992!) and you managed to pick two personal favorites: Beaucastel and Pegau 👏🏼🍷 Would add Vieux Telegraph and - for rare occasions- Bonneau
Love me some CDP! I snagged one on sale for $25 to share for Christmas Dinner with my family! And just ordered 6 more for the cellar thanks to that Vivino distributor sale
@@drmatthewhorkey The first one I tried was Paul Jourdan Cuvée Papale Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2018, the half-dozen I got was Château Fargueirol Jean XXII Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2019, which has been quite nice, licorice and fruit forward! Tasting right from the vats on a tour seems like a treat.
Glad to see at least one producer still using traditional methods to make their wine. Wine is becoming homogeneous with every one wanting to make more money to please everyday wine drinkers. I long for the days when wine from different regions all tasted unique.
Really cool video! I am planning a visit to CdP this summer. I am thinking of visiting Beaucastel (I'll try anyways) and I might go for Beaurenard (they also use all 13 grapes in their CdP) because they are a little bit more budget-friendly and still are well-rated. Do you have any thoughts on their wines?
@@drmatthewhorkey OK, let's say that the cheap ones start at about 15€ 😜 The cheapest CdP I know is from Aldi and costs about 10 or 12€... But I don't think it's comparable to a "real" CdP.
@@drmatthewhorkey Nice. I have one bottle left of their 2010 that I need to drink soon. The last one had a really strong mesquite bbq note but was a bit hot/imbalanced on the finish unfortunately. When I walk through the rhone aisle at a wine shop now, everything is 15% abv or more lol
My favourite wine region. Unfortunately the prices has got way too much up lately. I used to buy A LOT at very good prices. Every year we drove to southern france where my famaly had a house. Close to Chateauneuf du pape. I fiiled up the car every time. With Pegau. Clos des papes. Janasse. Vieux telegrafh and so on. Extremely hight quality and low prices. Those were the days
@@drmatthewhorkey It was up in the mountains. A small village called Cornus. About 70 kilometers north of chateauneuf du pape. Yes true. You can still find high quality wines at affotdable prices from Chateaunruf du pape. Not all has wines has rised so much. But it was much easier some years back.
@@drmatthewhorkey yeah so i looked into to it. Big ufo guy. And most main strean news articles say it sgarted in the 50s as a "tourism attracter" but it seems actually thats lazy journalism, what happened was a railway worker had an encounter on the tracks where a flying cigar came down over town, and he told the whole town and the mayor made the law. When i was in high school i saw a flying cigar shaped ufo flying just ~ 100 feet off the ground
I decided to get a pricy CdP ( for my wallet) and considering getting the Clos des Papes. Not sure about the vintage though.. Can order 2015, 2017 or even 2019. I guess best to drink now would be 2015?
@@dfgk7857--I'm a bit late to the party, but of those 3, the 2019 would be the best($100). If you could find the 2016($125+), it's a better wine & ready to go. Like Dr. Horkey, I like my CdPs younger, 5 to 9 years old.
It’s a ok wine but…honestly… with my experience working for the biggest wine merchant in Uk, we can get much value for money in other wines than du pape… it’s more easier sell fine wines than a Du Pape…
0:03 switched off! Chats neuf 😢? Seriously don’t butcher the language. You don’t deserve to drink the wine if you’re not willing to try at least to pronounce it 👎👎👎👎👎
