Join me for a walk exploring part of the Cromford and High Peak Railway near Buxton in Derbyshire. Our walk starts in the car park at the top of the Bunsall Incline, just above Errwood Reservoir. We follow the line of the long disused railway to the portal of the 500 yard long Burbage Tunnel. From here, we climb up to the Burbage Edge trig point, from where we can see the line of the railway re-emerge and head off towards Harpur Hill. As we drop down the other side of Burbage Edge to pick up the old Buxton to Macclesfield road, we also see one of the old railway bridges and an embankment which carries the bed of the railway away from Buxton towards its terminus in Cromford (roughly 25 miles east).
Dropping down to Derbyshire Bridge, we turn right and make our way along the Goyt Valley back to our starting point. An interesting walk of around 13km. It can be shortened or lengthened at various points according to how much time/energy you have.
