Join me for a walk exploring part of the Cromford and High Peak Railway near Buxton in Derbyshire. Our walk starts in the car park at the top of the Bunsall Incline, just above Errwood Reservoir. We follow the line of the long disused railway to the portal of the 500 yard long Burbage Tunnel. From here, we climb up to the Burbage Edge trig point, from where we can see the line of the railway re-emerge and head off towards Harpur Hill. As we drop down the other side of Burbage Edge to pick up the old Buxton to Macclesfield road, we also see one of the old railway bridges and an embankment which carries the bed of the railway away from Buxton towards its terminus in Cromford (roughly 25 miles east).
Dropping down to Derbyshire Bridge, we turn right and make our way along the Goyt Valley back to our starting point. An interesting walk of around 13km. It can be shortened or lengthened at various points according to how much time/energy you have.

Very beautiful scenery and views, if the railway was still, it would be a haven for tourist. Lovely vlog and walk.

Hi there. I'd not thought of that. It certainly would make a very scenic railway! 😊 Thanks for watching!👍👍

Des, most lovely terrain with rolling hillsides and historic markers. Less than 60 days before I begin my 2,200 mile trek. Excited and a bit nervous. Your video is inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, a fascinating walk on a beautiful day! It's hard for us to grasp the distance to complete the AT. Our island is only just over 600 miles tip to tip 😁 Hope it goes well for you and looking forward to seeing the videos! All the best👍

A fab area to walk there Des. I walked parts of that route back in the summer and was very impressed. Really enjoyed listening to all of the information about the area. I was hoping to get back over to your neck of the woods and check out those cabins but that will have to wait a while now. Definitely going to miss the Peak District during lockdown 😔. Appreciate the shoutout by the way. Very kind of you 🙂

Fantastic walk and terrain...many of our rail lines here in Nova Scotia have been turned over to walking trails...sure makes for some nice and level walking, but our views are nothing like you have...

Yes, it's a beautiful place. I think we have far fewer trees over here, and that does tend to open up the views. Hope you are keeping well!

@@DesGreene I ploughed through a few, yesterday. My wife wasn’t too chuffed when she got home as the hoovering and washing remained untouched!!

Very interesting and informative hike, thanks. I followed the route on a map and its an area I'm not familiar with although I did some walks there probably 30 years ago now and would like to get back there. All the best. 👍

There's some great walking in this area, Dave. Only drawback is that it can get a bit crowded in Summer. Hope you enjoy it if you visit again. All the best👍

It's well worth a look around. Loads of traces of the old railway bed right down into Whaley Bridge. But it was great to find some more tangible things like the tunnel and bridge etc. All the best!👍

Cheers Steve. Been going to Goyt Valley since I was a kid, but for some reason never ventured up there before. Was a decent walk.

Great scenery, but I couldn't walk so far as I'd very soon insanely overheat and absolutely POUR with appalling profuse sweat, no matter how cool it was. That's what's happened to me too many times in the past on even short walks. And that is a deadly serious life ruining disability and needs recognising as such, the sooner the better. Plus whenever I've tried walking in the countryside away from the roads I keep getting insanely aggressively menaced by absolutely psychopathic dogs, they're nothing but a wretched menace and ruin far too many country walks.
@DesGreene
@DesGreene 2 года назад
Sorry to hear that! I hope you manage to find your own ways to enjoy the countryside still👍 All the best & thanks very much for watching!👍😊
