We did both 8 years ago. In fairness we saw much more of Dingle than we did Ring of Kerry. That said, the best part of our entire trip, and still one of our most fond travel memories is Skellig Michael. We drove only as far as Waterville on RoK to catch the ferry. On Dingle we drove the Slea Head drive. Then the next day we drove up Connor Pass, to Camp, then through Caherconree Pass, where we hiked to the Iron Age fort, and then a stop at Inch Beach. I'd recommend both because I really can't choose one.
Awesome tour of an amazing area that I hope to visit one day! Such a raw landscape clinging to the edge of the continent. My great great grandmother left Dingle in 1856 at the age of sixteen to work in the mills at Lowell, Mass. I was born 104 years later twenty miles away. Cheers & safe travels!
Wow what a connection you have to Dingle. Have you ever visited? I love your description, so true. Would visit again in a heartbeat, the people so friendly and just a nice feeling about the town. Bringing my memories flooding back now! Thanks for watching.
We asked Which was more stunning? Ring of Kerry or Dingle Peninsula..... The narrow winding roads of the Slea Head Drive were fun and challenging, it was very hard to decide which was more stunning. For us the town of Dingle, the tradition and charm just had the edge. Both are fantastic and we want to go back and see more....... What about you? ..... Which did you prefer.... let us know below? Happy Travels!
Beautiful I was there a few years ago it is all so outstanding, another tid bit Ireland unsung hero was from there Tom Crean has to be one of the most amazing men that ever lived The Tom Crean Story its on RU-vid his sister ran the pub in Annascaul The South Pole Inn a great story South Pole being the clue :)
MemorySeekers yes! I have an Airbnb also up along the coast in Donegal for a few days as well and paid $60/night. The one in Dingle is slightly higher but only $90/night and right on the coast. I’m glad you mentioned driving clockwise in your video-because some of those roads hugging the cliff is terrifying.
@@36isnotold haha yes they are terrifying, but stunning at the same time. If you have a traveling companion do the drive twice and swap over so each can take it all in from the passenger seat! See how brave you are! :) Will you be driving all the way to Donegal?
MemorySeekers yes, I’m driving the whole island, but missing out on Cork and Dublin. Most of my time is along the wild Atlantic coast way, with a few days in the center, and also Northern Ireland.
@@36isnotold This sounds fab! You must be very excited. Fingers crossed for good weather Ireland can be brutal at times! Like today, very bad storm coming in. We did a trip to Belfast and drove some of the coastal causeway, was amazing. Check that video out on our channel. Let us know how it goes, love to hear back! :)
Both are great drives! Killarney was very disappointing compared to the rest of the area and scenery. Glad you went o Dick Mack’s and the Little Bridge pub in Dingle, but for music how could miss O’Sullivan’s Courthouse Pub? Tommy on guitar and a parade of great musicians playing with him each night-the best music in Ireland!
Those bottles on the wall of Dick Macks are Irish whiskey. It's worth ordering a dram because plenty of them are not sold outside Ireland. The pub has twice won Ireland's best whiskey bar award. Don't miss Conor Pass whatever you do. It is only 20 mins from Dingle and offers a real heart in the mouth driving experience.
Fantastic never knew this! We loved that pub. Whiskey is not our thing but the Guinness went down well. Conor Pass was indeed an interesting drive, shame we had quite bad weather so the landscape was very moody!
So glad you enjoyed we were supposed to be back in Ireland next week for another weekend guide but sadly that will be rescheduled for when the pandemic is over. Many thanks for watching, help us grow our channel by considering subscribing ☺️
@@MemorySeekers I know the feeling. I was booked to land in Dublin last Monday but didn't quite make it. As for which peninsula is better well Iveragh is prettier and Dingle is more spectacular. Why not see both ? It would be no trouble at all to spend a week between the two. So remember the mantra boys and girls - SLOW DOWN or you will miss the good stuff. The people ( there are plenty ) who drive the ring of Kerry in a day are justplain nuts.
Ireland has great sights...great food and better people!!! For a couple of other good youtube videos...try IRELAND...THE TRUTH COMES OUT IRELAND...THE TRUTH COMES OUT #2
An Droichead Beag is pronounced an drehid byug as in yug with a b. I can't tell which is best unfortunately because i have never driven on the slea head drive
Excellent thank you for that! I looked for ages before recording but gave up in the end. Must remember to ask a local at time of recording future note to self! :)
My mum's from this area - so have known it well since childhood. I am just surprised that you simply did not ask for help in pronouncing local place names (Slea Head = Slay Head, Iveragh Peninsula (Ive-er-ra). "An Droichead Beag" means "The Small bridge" (pronounced phonetically as "On Dri-hed bi-yug" (Dri as in the beginning of the word 'drip', yug like 'jug'. simple really!
It's on the list for sure, we loved our time in Ireland and are planning to explore more. Supposed to be back heading up the west coast at the end of September but 50/50 whether we can at the moment .
@@MemorySeekers You will love it. There is really nice places to go on the west coast of Ireland like Cork, Limrick, Claire, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Donegal. You should take a look at the Sky Road
Nice video. I enjoyed it. Got your last comment. I didn't what you said at all to me. With a laughing face. You must be running out of video also too with a short term memory. What's next on your video? LOL LMAF 😂🤣
