Exploring the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic church in Downing Alberta 

We took a trip to Alberta to visit and explore rural Ukrainian churches. The Exaltation of the Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic church in Downing, Alberta was one of many on our list. We were told that it is always locked up but worth a visit to the outside. It was a beautiful day with gorgeous blue skies and green grass. We started photographing the outside from all angles and before we left we tried the door handle - it was open! We took time to do a video walkthrough tour of the church and locked the door behind us.
The church was built in 1913 and held regular services until 1984 when the parishioners moved to another parish nearby. It celebrated it's 100 year anniversary in 2013. The church is still cared for by locals.
