“Crete's mystery is extremely deep. Whoever sets foot on this island senses a mysterious force branching warmly and beneficently through his veins, sensing his soul begin to grow,” wrote Nikos Kazantzakis, Crete’s most celebrated author
Just loving your enjoyment of Greece. Rethymno is a fabulous place, I like the way Crete is very authentic and you are made to feel very welcome..looking forward to seeing you in Chania.
Me too. Europeans sure do know how to build livable and walkable cities and towns. America is all urban sprawl and centered around the automobile. Our cities are depressing.
Been here ....We were in Crete the end of Sept. 2018.......Crete is such a beautiful island and there is so much to see......You need minimum 1 week to visit the whole island.... Food is very tasty, people are friendly and a busy island even though we visited in late Sept. 2018........In the summer time it's probably absolutely packed..I would love to go back and revisit ..Excellent videography !!!!! ❤💛💜💚💙
Great! For your next trip in Greece, consider visiting the north and regions like Thrace or Epirus. They are not touristic and you can find the best food and magnificent mountainous landscape ;-)
Those places all look really amazing but will have to wait until the next time. I'm flying to a new country in two days. It's time to say goodbye to Greece, for now.
Gabriel Traveler You still have time to hike the White Mountains with the Samaria Gorge. You can then take a cheap flight with Ryanair from Chania. Come next time to Crete and stay a couple of months in my condo (not sure if you’re able to do that). You will enjoy the incredible way of life in Crete. Most of my relatives reach the age of 100!
@@GabrielTravelerVideos You talk about a lot of countries....but you have never done FRANCE properly.....and as for the UK .....it's a non event....check out YORK in North England....there's a hell of a lot more to see than in those places you saw in Crete!!!!
As a long time viewer I know never to make the mistake of stopping your videos when you say goodbye. There's always a little extra goodness at the end! Thanks for the inspiration, Gabe.
What A Place. Thanks for the video that you provided and knowledge that you have bestowed upon us. I hope to add Crete to my travel collection here in the future. What would you say is the best time of year to travel if you plan on going in the water? Travel More! Worry Less!
Sometime between May and Oct. would be the best to plan for the best weather and water conditions. Love you tag line Travel More! Worry Less!. I'm going to have to steal that.
May to September are the best months. October is still okay but it can start getting cool, especially later in the month like now. Summer is the best, although July and August are the busiest months and also the most expensive. I'd say May, June and September are the best months for Greece.
Wow !what a cool bar , Uber cool and a beautiful harbor, bewitching town . I loved it thank you for sharing the video ( you missed the turn around & look back shot of the harbor at the end of the Walk down the restaurants)
Was there more than 20 years ago. Don't remember such a large 'old town'. I think they've build it out and just made it look old but maybe I'm wrong. In any case very nice place, then and now. Very nice food and some very beautiful girls.
Those prices you quoted are Manhattan Greek restaurant prices. Chania & Rethimno are interesting, but the real coastal beauty of Crete is East of Iraklion - starting with Elounda Bay and past.
love the video , its like really being there when watching full screen. Real pavement restaurant heaven, great way to spend an evening enjoying a med. meal Thanks for that for those who will never be able to get there plus the many other destinations. David , Durban South- Africa.
We skipped Rethymno when we were in Crete due to time+hearing not so great things. In retrospect, I think we might have made a mistake... It looks wonderful!
My friend is from this town, we live in Yorba Linda, California. I’m not from here but it is very nice and expensive but it is very close to Disneyland
Actually the Promenade of Rethymno alone is impressive enough, kilometers of fine sand and the meditative sound of the mediterranian sea is relaxing enough to feel in vacations by just watching and listening
Fantastic video. Really informative and I like your style. Looking forward to visiting this town in a few months so your info is much appreciated. Anyone that shows me menus and prices is a friend of mine 😂👍
Looks like a great place to wander around and explore for a few days. Why don't you go down those cool looking small alleys and film!? Looks like the most interesting streets of the place!
The places you have been to and are gong are all registering record numbers of tourists and are at a breaking point: alternative places would be Skyros, Koufonissia, Milos and Folegrandos. Back home try visiting Nebraska state which is not for everyone!
Milos is amazing, I visited there nine years ago. I've heard about some of those other islands, maybe next time, so many to explore. I've been to some less popular islands on this trip such as Anafi, Samos and Karpathos. Here's my full playlist of Greece videos: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7hvNsBKgn6I.html
Hey Gabriel I just got my first GoPro, your channel is a big influence on me and I love how you capture the sights. I was just wondering if you hold your camera in your hand or use a gimbal or anything like that? Maybe a video on GoPro tips would be a cool idea! I can't wait to get out there and have a play. Keep up with good work mate.
Hi Sean, thanks a lot, appreciate it. I just hold the camera in my hand. I don't have a gimbal or selfie stick or anything like that. Here's another video in which I talk about the gear I use to create the videos: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OEo1Y4AUSWk.html
Hey Gabriel, just in update on this comment, I just watched the video you linked me too, and if you can make videos with that kind of on the fly setup, then I recon I can have a go too. Cheers to ya mate just goes to show you don't need the best in order to be great at what you do.
I swear, I think there’s at least one Chinese restaurant and one Irish pub in nearly every city on the planet. Nearly, lol. Certainly true of Europe, the US, and Canada, and the bigger cities in China (well, obvs. there’s Chinese food in China. I meant an Irish pub) and Japan. I have to guess on the rest of the world as those places are the only ones I’ve been to! Smoothies, too, right? 😆👍🏼✌🏼
seems odd to me that you spend all this time wandering streets full of people and we never hear voices saying "Hey Gabriel! Gabriel Morris!!-love your channel!!" Sure it would be rude behavior but people are people and you are very recognizable. Do you edit all of that out?
People recognize me every few weeks or so, not every day. Since I've been on this trip the for the past two months it's only happened a few times. People have recognized me while I was filming though, like in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BQKA_Xc6ECs.html
ahahaha the way non natives of Greece pronounce the names of Greek towns is hilarious😂 but at least they are trying! (I am Cretan bc my parents are Cretan but I’m born in America lol)
Hey Gab, You captured someone I met at the hostel at 7:48! - The dude in white shirt. :D He's an exchange student in Rethymno. What a small world! P.S. How did you like Rethymno? I thought it was really pretty in the evening.
julieann522 Yes, there is a very nice sandy beach in Rethymnon of 16 miles. Watch this video: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MpOZ_u9kxAQ.html
Heyyy Gabby, Can we swim in Crete beaches in month of late April ? Which place of the island would you recommend to stay or make your base for a 4-5 day trip ?? TIA 🙏🏻
Yes, late April is a great time to go to Crete. It will be nice and warm. There are so many places to visit on Crete, so I would suggest buying a guidebook and reading about the different places. Here are some more of my videos of Crete for some ideas: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QZLwLOO4DsA.html
plz go to Chania old central market , they sell everything , cloths , cheese, deli, . Pack a picnic , Watch the fabulous sunset by the bay, Such special bay ! They said chania has good food Will you visit KNOSSOS Temple ? The origin of the Menoian civilization. My 1st visit to santorini years ago, I even took the Menoian Ship ( different tickets based on budget ) from west coast Greek petra to venice , love the 12 hrs journey passing many ports
what an awesome place and thank-you for posting the video !! would you add Crete to one of your favourite islands. Would love to travel to Greece it is on the bucket list but would need a well planned out itinerary ....
Do you have to pay for single rides every time you get on the bus or do they have a weekly pass or multiple ride pass for the entire island? If not I imagine that all these bus rides might add up quickly.
Yeah I paid for each ride separately, it was about 6-8 euros for each bus ride of an hour or so. Not sure if there's a bus pass that will bring the cost down.
The Greeks in winter jackets and the tourists in t-shirst. Temperature at the end of October is around 20-25 degrees during the day but it cools off in the evening and at night.
Greeks don't handle the cold well at all so the minute October hits we are already in hoodies :P People who visit from countries who are used to colder temps will have no issue walking with T-shirts during greek Autumn but greeks , we are not people of the cold that much :P
