this isn't abandoned but they have been stored here for many many years! as if they have been forgotten about waiting for restoring! the old trains wouldn't be able to run on newer tracks as the wheels are wider then are modern style trains unless they are able to be adjusted!
this was one of the explores that i enjoyed as it's a bit different from what I'm used to seeing like abandoned hospitals or disused quarries and mines!

All the coaches etc are of standard guage and would run on normal tracks. The first class coach is not victorian or 1920s and is a BR standard MK1 design from the 1950s or 60s. The 'steering wheel' is in fact a hand brake....trains do not have to steer!!!.

Yes, I cringed when they thought the carriage was Victorian.

TBF carriage design in the 50s and 60s was ridiculously old fashioned- perhaps because until nearly the end of the 60s, Victorian steam tech was still hauling them.

loooks like a preservation society that ran out of funds or enthusiasm or volunteers. The rolling stock is ex-BR, probably of 1950s vintage.

I had no idea but it looks class and 1950s is what someone else said, you know or guessing anything else about them

That carriage you walked through at the start was a MK3 of late 70s/early 80s

@@Urbandecay666 I've never come across a coach like that before. Part compartment and part open and all First Class to boot. I can say that it was allocated to the then Eastern Region which covered routes from Kings Cross to York. Beyond York was North-East Region (orange station boards as opposed to blue for Eastern).
@roboftherock

@@johnUB4478 No it is not. It is a Mk1. Have a look at the sliding windows. I recall sticking my head and camera out of many a one. Mk3 rolling stock had double glazed windows and were air-conditioned. No opening windows (except for the doors, since they were still fitted with slam-doors).

@roboftherock if you watch at 0:24 of the video, they walk through a MK3. That's what I was referring to.

The diesel is a SENTINAL with a Rolls-Royce engine. There used to be a lot of 0-6-0 versions in Ellesmere Port at the Manchester Ship Canal Company! In the late 1960s/early 1970s they were in Dark Blue with Red Buffer Beams. They looked and sounded great!!!

That locomotive you lot climbed on, if you don't know what things are, don't fiddle with them. That RED wheel with a handle on it is NOT a steering wheel, it's a BRAKE handle for locking the loco down when stabled...you do not faff about with them, they are painted RED for a reason. Oh, and if you were there without permission, you were trespassing, which is a crime just the same as on the regular railway.

I have visited neither the Ecclesbourne nor the Weardale Railways but the buildings in the first couple of seconds of the film look very much like the buildings at Wolsingham on the Weardale line, at least judging by a photo on the Wikipedia article about the Weardale Railway. I've also checked a couple of identifiable items of rolling stock on the website UK Preserved Railway Stock List. That showed the coach, numbered E3507, to be a British Railways Mark 1 Corridor Second built in 1957. The same website lists DMU ("Diesel Multiple Unit") M52054, a Class 108 'DMCL' (Driving Motor Composite Lavatory) which forms one coach of a Class 108 unit built in 1960, as also at the Weardale Railway.

Agree, also Ecclesbourne does not have a building like that one, if it did, it would be in far better condition, and housing running stock!

Come on.Someone in the Heritage Movement will have full knowledge and the circumstances surrounding this collection. However that doesn't mean to say that this 'discovery 'is not shocking. Look forward to more details.
