Welcome to the July 3rd flyover of the Gordie Howe International Bridge project.
The Gordie Howe Bridge has reached a monumental milestone! n June, ironworkers and operating engineers completed the installation of the final edge girders, officially connecting the bridge decks on both sides of the Detroit River. This historic moment marked the bridge as an official international crossing, linking Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit, Michigan.
Currently, the construction of the Gordie Howe Bridge is focused on several key activities as the project moves forward. As of July 2024, the mid span closure is completely closed and installing the concrete between the preformed concrete slabs will officially complete the bridge deck on this amazing international crossing.
In addition to the deck connection, substantial work is ongoing at both the Canadian and U.S. ports of entry. This includes utility installations, painting, carpet installation, and concrete paving. The Michigan interchange is also progressing significantly.
The deck is fully connected. While this achievement is cause for celebration, there's still a substantial amount of work ahead before the bridge opens to traffic. Over the next year, crews will be busy with critical tasks including:
* Re-stressing of stay cables
* Post-tensioning of the deck
* Installation of electrical and fire suppression systems
* Setting up drainage systems
* Placing barriers and signage
* Installing lighting
* Paving the deck and adding pavement markings.
This $6.4 billion infrastructure marvel promises to revolutionize cross-border travel and commerce between Canada and the United States.
The bridge is on track for completion in September 2025, with the first vehicles expected to travel across it that fall.
That said, I wonder if they are not ahead of schedule?
The 2023, 2024 Winter was mild, allowing work to continue without the constant interruption of snow, Ice and bone chilling cold to slow them down.
I guess we wait and see. What do you think? Let me know in the comments.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to bridge nations and build the future of international transportation!
Thanks for watching. Like and subscribe. This is Bob Jones, and I will see you in the next video.

Another great video, Bob! Still seems to be 10,000 things to do before the bridge opens. Maybe the actual bridge was the easy part.... j/k It's awesome! Thanks again. Hope you and yours had a great Canada Day. My 4th was uneventful - meaning no burning fireworks embers caught the roof on fire.

After looking at how much needs to be done there was no way they could complete it by this fall. I really think fall of 2025 looks realistic and I hope they make it. We need another big crossing for our goods to the US.

Approach decks looking pretty good, too, the Canadian side is looking close to done with only one more area of rebar/pouring left, and the Michigan side has caught up a lot with not much left to place rebar for and a lot of it is poured.

I have a suspicion that interior fitting out once the buildings and structures are dried in may dictate the opening date more than the big ticket concrete structures--lots of wiring, inspection systems, computers, and all that to install and validate.

@@bobjonesrealtor7756 Definitely, and the timing is funny sometimes. I agree, they appear to be well along. Since Canada is paying for this structure, there should be a push to open the bridge by next Canada Day. Granted there are still a number of things to do, but the major construction is completed and my experience from following major bridge construction over the decades is that it never takes a full year once any gap it closed until traffic is flowing over.
@bobjonesrealtor7756
@bobjonesrealtor7756 25 дней назад
You may be right. However ther is a period during construction where it seems as everything is slowed to almost a halt.. Installing mechanicals, wiring, ductwork, plumbing etc is progress unseen until the finishing starts. I hope it happens quicker!

@bobjonesrealtor7756
@bobjonesrealtor7756 24 дня назад
Hi Joe. Thanks for the compliment. This is what I found. - Approximately half a million tonnes of concrete, equivalent to about 25,000 concrete truck loads, will be used to construct the Gordie Howe International Bridge. -

Are they sure that after a short while the fill they used between the cement slabs wont deteriorate and be a real mess to repair? Also why is it taking so long to fill the spaces in the final slabs? Also I’m wondering if we aren’t going to hear a cloppity sound as vehicles are traveling across. Just thinking
