A close up look at the now ghost towns and former railroad town of Wellington, WA including the old Cascade railway tunnel. Watch as we explore up close the Great Northern Railway avalanche train disaster debris site. The Wellington avalanche occurred in March of 1910 and was the deadliest avalanche in the history of the United States, marked by the total death count of 96.
Wellington was quietly renamed "Tye" during October because of the unpleasant associations of the old name. In the same month, the Great Northern Railway began construction of concrete snow sheds to shelter the nearby tracks. The depot was closed when the second Cascade Tunnel was completed in 1929; the town was then abandoned and it eventually burned.
Many visitors to this site have experienced unusual phenomena leading some to investigate and ask is this site haunted. We will leave that up to the induvial.
Many ghost towns and historic mines in Washington State have already disappeared from history and many more are being lost each year to the ravages of time, wildfire, vandalism, and intentional closure. In addition to our many years of photographic documentation of these important historic sites we are now attempting to video document as many sites as we can so there is a lasting record of these places for future generations. We hope you enjoy what we do and will join us on our adventures through a bygone era of Washington rich and colorful history. Not only do we love the history we explore and document, but we truly enjoy sharing these sites and experiences with our followers and viewers.
We appreciate you and thank you for Watching!!

There is a book for those of your who like to read. It is called "The 1910 Wellington Disaster". It was written by a man who was there and describes the disaster and the rescue operation. I think the man was Rodney Fletcher and Deborah Cuyle helped him write it. I believe she was Rodneys daughter. I may be mistaken, but when I moved to Washington from the East Coast, I devoured many books about the local history. This is one of those books that you just can't put down.

Refreshing to see the area without someone talking through it. Very peaceful video not to mention a very well done. Wellington will always have a special place in my heart that I will never forget. More people should go and experience the beauty of the Iron Goat trail. Maybe, spend time listing to what Wellington has to say. You never know who or what will talk to you if you listen close enough.

I agree about the lack of narration. I like how this was done.

This is well researched here. I knew about this incident, having read a history book on the Great Northern. According to that, there was only one surviving witness, a railroad employee who had gotten off the train to smoke and was on the platform and had the avalanche pass over his head. I see that the state (probably) has constructed a trail on the old roadbed with historical markers and the memorial plaque, but the tunnel is no longer safe.

I went there in the 80’s and it still looks very similar Tragic site and it hard to imagine the town that was once there as nature engulfed it

I found out at the west end of the snow shed @ 15.50 it was used as bombing practice in 1942 but the pilot got in trouble for doing it.

I will never go up there again 😅..I was in the shelter alone getting dark. And had no idea about it being haunted. Most of the dead are still up there having not crossed over.And that poor little girl crying broke my heart after I had injured my self looking for her .I did not find out until weeks later that she is called the little girl lost. And that poor little girl has been stuck up there for over a hundred years. So sad.long story of what happened to me up there.But if you look up GHOST OF WELLINGTON THE IRON GOAT TRAIL I am the no name guy talking to NWPIA of what I went through. I know all about the spirit world and never was afraid. But I am now.😅.You should never be in that shelter at night alone.

Really? Wow! I am not saying that spirit's are not able to be there? But I am a believer in Jesus Christ our lord and savior! And I am sure that those spirit's are not there anymore because, once you have died? You are either in heaven or Hell? It's your choice and God bless you guys for this video and I try watching everyone of them

what's up with the face in the concrete support?
@ghosttownsandminesofwashington
It was a caricature done in the concrete by a worker when they built the sheds.
