Join us to learn more about the classic Japanese WW2 Nambu Type 14 from Jim Angle! Jim takes us through the changes that occur over the development of the Type 14.
The Nambu pistols (南部拳銃 or 南部大型自動拳銃, Nanbu kenjuu/Nanbu ōgata jidou-kenjuu) were a series of semi-automatic pistols produced by the Japanese company Koishikawa Arsenal, later known as the Tokyo Artillery Arsenal. The series had three variants, the Type A, the Type B (also known as the Baby Nambu), and the Type 14 (南部十四年式自動拳銃). The Nambu pistols were designed to replace Japan's earlier service pistol, the Type 26 Revolver.
The pistols were designed by Kijiro Nambu and saw extensive service in the Empire of Japan during the Second Sino-Japanese War and Pacific War. The most common variant, the Type 14, was used mostly by officers, who had to pay for their pistols themselves.
Towards the end of the war, the production quality began to decline in order to speed up manufacture.

Back in the 1980s I had an older neighbor he had an impressive WW2 collection he started it in the 1960s when WW2 stuff you could find in every military surplus store for very little money, he had German, Italian, USA, and Japanese, when he passed away his grandson didn't like guns or anything to do with the war so I ended up with 5 japanese nambu and 4 German Mausers 2 1911s and 1 luger, he just wanted to get rid of them and didn't care about the value I give him $1500 dollars for all that was all the money I had (this was in the early 1980s) the rest of the guns and rifles he took them to the police department and the memorabilia he dumped it in the garbage ( I found out about that later) over the years I collected a little amount of WW2 stuff until one day some criminals broke into my house and took everything, And that's all I can say about that LOL.

The add 1925 to the serial number only works on Shōwa era made pistols, which is 99% of the production. The first few hundred guns were made in the Taishō era. In fact, the 14 in Type 14 means it was adopted in the 14th year of the Taishō era.

I am really exited since I am getting soon myself an 1933 produced Nambu Type 14. Only 2 parts not matching it is the Cocking knob and the firing pin. Ao its either mismatched during use with another gun cleaning it or after the war. That piece of history I will never know. But it still a rare piece to find here in Norway😁

I love my Type 14 nambu mine was made in 1937 and has the small trigger guard. I reload for mine and like to shoot it from time to time. I have a type 94 as well. she is a little more finiky at the range. I have enough loose original ww2 8mm nambu ammo to fill each mag once. Id like to get an original box of ammo for my collection.

@@historicinvestments2587 I like to have at least 1 full mag or clip full of original ammo for each of my old guns. And I like to collect other oddball or rare calibers.

HI, I have a type 14 that looks exactly like the one you showed starting @ 4:00 , BUT it has the cocking knob that has three rings like the first gun you showed. It and the bolt match the serial # on the gun, The gun is "18-2 1941 " Now the mags, are bare aluminum and dont have the notch to catch the keeper in the grip, one has no number the other one has "945 " on it , I have the spare firing pin but no number on it , the pin in the gun has no number either, both pins are not broken , The cleaning rod has no number, the holster is the leather type with the stretching lock closure , the gun is covered in cosmoline inside and out and both mags, even the barrel is plugged with the grease,

Nambus hit like a pocket pistol round. I'd rather have a American .4 auto or a German Luger any day of the week. The Brits had a cool top break .38 revlver and I'd take that over a Nambu in combat. Not saying Nambus aren't worth collecting but overall they are not the combat weapon that other countries had.

while they aren't the best, something like .380 auto (which the nambu is close in power with) isn't a bad sidearm, especially in ww1 or ww2, the real reason you shouldn't use a nambu is because of it's bad quality (firing pin & springs)

I know what you're thinking, punk. You're thinking "Did he fire eight shots or only seven?" Now, to tell you the truth, I've forgotten myself in all this excitement. But being this is a 8mm Nambu, the most powerful handgun in the world and it will blow your head clean off, you've gotta ask yourself a question: 'Do I feel lucky?

I really dislike the Amercian fascination with painting or whitening the stampings of guns, in particular, old handguns. Yes, I know why you Mericanis do it, but it's awful.

id argue an early war model, if you talk about all the nambus then it would either be the papa nambu or the baby nambu
