Nm3/h stands for Normal Cubic Metres per Hour: that's the air flow through the furnace converted to a standardized pressure and temperature, e.g. 15 gr. C AND 1013 mbar. Since the volume of air varies greatly with temperature, Normal m3/h is used as a metric to be able to easily compare flows at different temperatures/pressures. Love your content guys, keep it up!

I did a 5 year apprenticeship at a similar but maybe bigger steel plant here in Australia in the 1960's. It's hard to imagine it being idle and unproductive. The one I worked at drew it's first breath in 1915 and produed steel until the late 1990's, that plant is mostly gone now with just a couple of its rolling mills remaining. It took lots of time and effort to clear most of the steelmaking plant from the site. Hi

The Armco steel mill in my hometown used liquid oxygen instead of fans. There was an oxygen reduction plant a couple miles away where air was liquefied, then the individual gasses were boiled off & collected.

It was a bit confusing when I realised we were an important producer of steel, before the production drift exclusively in eastern Europe. Remember well the lutte of the workers in the national media at the time for saving the site. Thanks for the video ;)!

I worked in the steel industry for a few years and around that time. Arcelor closed it so there is less offer in the market and they can sell the steel at a higher price...imagine the money they make to make worth closing this huge facility. there are hundred of millions there just in scrap metal.

One of the last active steel mills in Germany is Dillinger Hütte in Dillingen / Saarland, close to the German - French border. It produces sheet metal out of scrap iron and will certainly bcome even more important due to increasing production of ordnance and other military equipment, such as tanks. I'm sure you can ask for a guided tour through the mill.

A few years ago I visited a former steel plant in Völklingen …it’s open for tourists,it is smaller than this one

7 years i worked on a inland barge transporting coal and iron ore to Thionville and Richemond. To the steal industry that is now moved to the Atlantic coast. It is cheaper to unload the big bulk carriers direct at the factory than by extra inland transport by Rotterdam, Koblenz. A lot of big inland barges had work from it. They even build two new Moselle locks in Germany.

Welcome to the city I grew in ! I hope your trip here was cool : we have lots of really cool abandoned buildings here that are just rotting away. Thanks for your video, you greatly covered this symbol of our city : I've been wanting to see a video about these blast furnaces for a long time. All my family worked for the company through the years, as many did in the city and even I worked for a couple of days on the neighbouring site that is still active today. I remember back when they closed the site in 2012 that everyone had seen it as a treason from the government as they said during their campaign that this site would not close, even if ArcelorMittal wanted. Suddenly, the noise to which everyone in the valley was accustomed ceased and was replaced by a deafening silence. Too bad they will destroy everything soon: the company that bought the site and the community of cities around it have no interest in keeping this "dames de fer". The landscape will be really empty without those standing in the valley. Many people, like me, wanted to see them rehabilitated to a multi-activity center (museum surrounded by offices, shops and housings) but our hopes are unlikely to become a reality...

Megga place… be one hell of a demolition job pulling that beauty down.. some money worth in scrap there..

Do they really protect that place that much and if so why?

Fantastic footage of a part of history. The newest blast furnace looks like it could still be brought out of mothballs should there ever be a need. It troubles me to see sites like this that are closed that used to be so busy. There is still a demand for cast iron and steel, it's just that this place cannot make it cheaply enough to compete in the world's market. China makes it cheaper, so they get all the business, closing all other plants, other competition - soon (if not now already) only China will be making cast iron and steel for the world. Competition is good - it promotes better pricing and availability - unions may have killed these plants by making demands that made it cheaper to just close. I may be wrong... but still, great to see. Thank you for giving us this insight!
