Join my as I cycle across the Antelope Valley on the "Sierra Bike Trail"! This Palmdale to Lancaster rail trail stretches 7.5m/12Km one way from the Palmdale Metrolink train station to Lancaster Metrolink and back. It's a pretty low key, easy to ride commuter Class I path that also protects riders as they commute alongside the sierra highway with some simple cyclist friendly features along the way that make it an easy trip even in the dead of summer.

Great video! Enjoyed seeing the path. As a local, I have not used this path because (in my opinion) it's too close to sierra highway for me to feel comfortable riding it. I don't like biking so close to cars going 60+ mph. I wish it at least had a fence on the highway side so the path feels more sectioned off from the highway. It's also very loud. I like a more peaceful bike ride. There are bikers here, they just go to other areas of the city and mountains to ride in my experience.

The absolute Madlad, he did it! I use this trail several times a week and I think your review is right on the money. Unsentimental without being unkind. I love this trail for its utility, but it's lacking aesthetic beauty or, like you aptly noted, resources. Anything, even a water fountain every two or three miles, would greatly improve it. If we really wanted it to shine we'd set up more greenery between the road and the trail to dampen the sound of traffic as well as the unforgiving Antelope Valley winds. This valley will teach you to cycle vehicularly. I've already checked out a handful of class 1's down below thanks to your coverage of them. Love your content; keep it up!

It's a great idea to combine train and bike. I do it all the time here in Florida. I need to look up this trail since I'm gonna be in LA in two weeks from now. If you're interested keep eye on my channel maybe I will end up riding this trail too. Thanks for sharing your biking adventure. Take care!

I have wanted to ride this trail for the last two years but was hesitant because it is kind of far from my city (Upland, ca) and wandered if it would be worth the drive. After seeing your video, I decided to give it a go. Thanks for sharing.

That is a bit of a drive! What direction did you take to get there from upland? I’m glad you had a chance to check it out! You are proof that cycling infrastructure not only improves the accessibility of residents for the respective community but it draws in people from out of the area. It’s a win win situation.

Great video! I found a crazy trail in that area along W. Ave. L between 90th and 70th St. It's basically a 2 mile downhill straightaway with almost no obstructions, and with the wind it seems like the perfect place to set a land speed record. I highly recommend it.

From what I can see and hear I won't be rushing to try this path out. Most of the SoCal class 1 bike paths are at least partially along busy roads and highways, I guess that's just the nature of the beast. In my opinion the paths along the river beds are about the best in this area.

They added many curb side bike paths no one uses. I was hoping they would have extended the class 1 path.

I rode this trail daily twenty yesrs ago. Twice a day to and from Palmdale. On the early morning ride (4:00 am or so). I didn''t notice much, but I did notice the trash and the Lockheed Skunkworks site, which I think you called the airport. It was as your video showed a straight path along a busy road. I often had severe headwind, regardless of direction I was traveling and temperature ranged from the twenty in the morning to over 100 in the afternoon. There was no Palmdale station. The next station after Lancaster was located just after Angeles Forest Road on Sierra Highway. No bike path to this station.

Fascinating comment!! Thanks for sharing your experiences. It’s cool to find out that a simple resource like a bike path can be so useful for people like that. Things have certainly changed!

I started using this path when the route to the Acton Station, south of Palmdale, became too dangerous.
@TrailsofCalifornia
@TrailsofCalifornia Месяц назад
@@abingtonmg What made the route to Acton station so dangerous? Just curious!
@abingtonmg
@abingtonmg Месяц назад
@@TrailsofCalifornia riding across the on ramp to interstate 14 and crossing Sierra Highway to enter the station, both of which I narrowly avoided being hit by cars on several occasions. These near collisions were probably due to riding at night and riding slowly as I climbed the hill just before the station. It also didn't help that most cars didn't signal before the on ramp.

Just stumbled upon your Channel. I live in Hemet California. I was particularly interested in taking bikes on the metro. Since I have graduated into riding a trike, I was wondering what your take is on taking a trike on the Metro. From the video, it looks quite possible. I am going to subscribe and am looking forward to watching more of your videos. I think you're doing a great service! As you say, ride on and ride safe.😊

Hello! Thank you for you comment and thanks for watching. Happy you found the channel! Metro is a great service that I like to use when I’m traveling on one way trips. If you stay on a route close to a train line you can get home easily. Am I correct that Hemmit recently opened a metro line? Each metro train has a bike car (marked with a bike symbol) that has racks equipped for at least 6-8 bikes. It’s a free service along with your regular priced ticket. Same goes for Amtrak!

@@TrailsofCalifornia hello and thank you for the quick reply. Hemet unfortunately, does not have a metro station yet. The nearest one is in Perris. What I am trying to find out is if a recumbent trike would easily go on the train and be stored in the bicycle area. From the video, it looks like there would be plenty of room to get in the doors and space to park when you are on board. What do you think?

I finally found the rules on Recumbent Trikes for Metro trains. Their website states that trikes are forbidden.🙁

Because you live in hemmit check out my video on the “salt creek trail”. One of the best class 1 paths in the area. It begins in menifee and one day will extend through hemmit. This is a great idea! I’ll have to do a poll to find out how many of my viewers would be interested in participating in something like that. Thanks for the suggestion!
