Prospect Of Whitby is a classic British pub in Wapping that serves excellent cask ales and freshly prepared pub fare. The Prospect of Whitby, which dates from 1520, is London's oldest riverfront bar. The tavern still maintains its original flagstone floor, as well as a rare pewter-topped bar, antique barrels, and ship masts built into the structure. The beer garden, first-floor balcony and terrace, and most other parts of the bar provide superb views of the River Thames. Smugglers, thieves, and pirates visited the bar when it first opened, and it was a notorious hangout for anyone interested in river and sea life. Charles Dickens, Samuel Pepys, Judge Jeffries, and artists Whistler and Turner were among the noteworthy clientele.
