A rainy day is actually my favorite type of day. I find the rain so soothing and cozy! What a beautiful village, I love the fog creeping in over the mountains. The bone house is eerie but so fascinating. You captured some marvelous views of this lovely village but I can see its even quite busy with tourism in the rain, I can't imagine how packed it would be on a sunny day. The waterfall is such a beautiful addition to such a lovely view point already. The village itself looks right out of a fairy tale. I love the green plants and flowers everywhere on the buildings too. Also neat seeing so many people taking photos everywhere. Beautiful spot! Thanks for the great tour!

Hallstatt is certainly beautiful whatever the weather and on this occasion I was making the most of the bad weather. The bone house was certainly unique. Hallstatt suffers with over tourism so you can imagine what it would be like on a sunny day! The locals were protesting the week before my visit about too many tourists coming in every day. You can certainly see why people flock here. It got worse when people thought the film Frozen was modelled on Hallstatt. There is even a replica of Hallstatt in China. Usually I'd stop for people taking a photo but here you'd be forever waiting. I'm glad you enjoyed this explore of Hallstatt and the bone house. Thank you very much for watching 🙂👍

The road must close on a sunny day. Post card perfect view indeed. Hallstatt is charming and understand how they depend on tourism but at the same time despise the racket. The skull practice kind of makes sense to me. The clouds add a dramatic effect to the mountains. Kind of interesting to see what people are wearing for the weather, place and adventure. Wet pants tells a story. Guess I would have to have some ginger bread. Beautiful lake and adventure. Cheers👍

Hi Mike, the road is semi closed all the time. I guess some residents and delivery people get access because there is not much traffic. Even on a rainy day Hallstatt is busy but you can imagine it's a lot worse when the sun is shining. The skulls were certainly unique. I was in full waterproofs and an umbrella on this day. I may have to go back one day and hope for some better weather to get into the mountains, like I had hoped. Well I did one day 🙂 Thank you very much for watching 🙂👍Paul

Hi Paul. What an interesting tour ! The grave is decorated with flowers and looks very beautiful, but the skull room is a bit creepy. I remember that there was an underground place in Paris where skulls were all collected. Beautiful village on a rainy day. It is rare to have a waterfall along the road, and it is beautiful. Thanks for nice sharing 😊💕Juli

Even a rainy day it still looks fantastic - I think the low cloud on the mountains makes it even better. The Beinhaus was a bit macabre, especially the bit where the skulls are left out in the elements prior to being added to the collection. It is hard to comprehend each skull was once an individual enjoying those fantastic views of the lakes and mountains.

Hi Andy, Hallstatt Village Austria is fabulous in any weather. The Beinhaus certainly was unique I will give you that. Hello Paul, yes quite a busy walk, no not Hermit friendly at all. Shame it is raining for you. The views over the water with the low clouds looked amazing. How pretty is that cemetery with the mountains in the background. OOOh im not sure about having my skull painted. Tony says they do this in Italy but they don't paint the skulls. The waterfall was stunning. Loved the swans and their cygnets. Nice you get fresh bread every morning. The gingerbread sound good. I love ginger x So many spectacular views, take care and thank you for sharing x Julie and Tony x

Hi Julie n Tony, indeed not hermit friendly at all. It rained pretty much all week while I was in Hallstatt unfortunately tho I did have great weather in Germany. I feel I will need to return to Hallstatt one day to complete some unfinished business. The cemetery was rather lovely and the skull painting quite unique I would say. Then again it seems they do it in Italy too with the skulls. The swans and ducks were a nice addition to the village and the bread was good. I never did pick up any of that gingerbread. I'm glad you enjoyed this rainy day explore of Hallstatt and the Beinhaus. Thank you very much for watching. Have a great week 🙂👍Paul

Hallstatt, it’s easy to appreciate why it’s considered the most beautiful village in the world, also probably the busiest! Well done braving the crowds to capture the iconic view. Digging up the dead, yikes, thats a way of dealing with burial overcrowding. Very small plots on those graves, not even 3 foot id say. Ah the problems of living in the most beautiful village in the world! 😂 the skulls are quite pretty arent they? Lovely waterfall and viewpoint. Definitely prompting us to return to Austria sooner rather than later, absolutely stunning. The lanterns in the trees were lovely, what a nice spot. Lovely weather for ducks, it does seem to get its fair share of rain in Austria! A superb rainy tour, it really is picking up again towards the end! 👍

@TheHikingHermit 5 месяцев назад
Hallstatt is super busy during the day and would you believe in this video it wasn't that busy! I did get out early one morning when the sun finally came out and got some better snaps from that postcard viewpoint with very few people around. With the skulls I guess once you're dead it doesn't matter too much what happens to your skull. The bone chapel didn't creep me out or give me any bad vibes unlike the visit to that chapel in Scotland with the very old graveyard! As the weather was bad most of my time I didn't get to do everything I wanted so may have to return one day to do some unfinished business. The rain does pick up but it doesn't stop me from hiking up to the Skywalk platform, which is the next video 🙂Thank you very much for watching. Have a great week 🙂👍Paul

@@TheHikingHermit thank you Paul, we almost visited Hallstatt whilst we were in Wolfgangsee, it’s pretty much on the next lake over. The amount of tourists put us off but there is no denying its incredible beauty. I believe it’s the most photographed place in the world that’s used for desktop images, screen savers and the like. They even built a replica of the village in China!
@TheHikingHermit
@TheHikingHermit 5 месяцев назад
@tionXplorers yeah i knew about the replica in China. It got really famous after the film Frozen because they think parts of the film were modelled on it. If I went back I probably wouldn't visit Hallstatt itself but the surrounding area, away from the crowds. That is what I had planned but the weather killed that. Next time I will stay in Bad Ischl then jump on the train or bus into the Hallstatt area.

Hi Paul, it was amusing to me that the walk was not Hermit-Friendly at all, despite the rain, until you entered the creepy Bone House! You were "lucky" to have the place to yourself! 😬😂 It was so fascinatingly macabre but kind of joyous at the same time! The skulls were beautifully painted and it was a nice memorial to the dead. I enjoyed your tour of the town with its magnificent views. The low cloud made the mountains look magical. I'm not surprised the residents want to shut the tourists out as much as they can, haha! Hi Paul Very fascinating history and culture I have never heard nor seen. I am not sure what brought you this destination as knowing it is Hermit unfriendly ??? hahahah Indeed, visitors must mind the local PPL's lives and thank you for being an advocate and expressing the awareness of our behaviors in such gorgeous place. I am amazed by the cemetery with full of little garden with each markers/tombstone(?) Well loved by caretakers /families who does well job on maintenance. Thank you for your research about bitter history. it is really moving. Wow the cremation was forbidden way back then. The skulls seem looking at us..drawing by its relatives/families??? What were in their mind then? Feel intimidated by standing by all skulls...I am watched..any souls still roaming around.... This little town is cozy and lovely to explore....I can feel the local PPL were annoyed/disturbed by though...so many PPL taking photographs and making quite noise. hahahha what did you say? nice looking PPL? who? Hmmm gingerbread ..I have never had it before but I know of Christmas gingerbread house competition... This is the first time I see you holding the umbrella and filming. Did you use body mount? Well it was majestic to see the lake and mountains.with clouds covered. I have to find out your secret setting on Gopro. I cannot pull off such a beauty with mine. Appreciate your walk in the drizzling rain....and such crowds hahah Look forward to your next episode.... Sorry for my belated comment. I have started to watch it so many times...but the allergy season started..I have dry eyes, watery eyes and headache from time to time... Cheers!

Hi Ms Kayak, well I wouldn't have been where all these mad tourists where had the weather been nice 😂 I was making the best of it. I think I felt more at home in the bone house with the skulls than I did with the mad tourists 😂 The bone house certainly was very unique with an interesting back story and one worth sharing. I didn't get the creeps in there unlike the Kirkmadrine Chapel which I visited last year! Oh yeah the nice looking people in the window. It was like some ornaments of faces in the window ha ha. I never did buy any gingerbread so I may have to go back. I did have an umbrella up for some of the film which was mostly to protect the camera lens from rain drops. They still managed to get on at times. No body camera, I was just holding the camera in one hand and the umbrella in the other. I think my arms started aching ha ha. Ah the secret settings. Yeah I do have a lot of the settings on manual but I'm sure your footage is just as good. The footage is straight out the camera with my settings 🙂 The next episode I hike the 350m of ascent to the skywalk for a view over Hallstatt and the lake. Ah better late than never. I have trouble keeping up with everything these days. Thank you very much for taking time to watch. I hope the headache and watery/dry eyes are less frequent or better still not at all. Have a great weekend 🙂👍Paul

This sure was the most gorgeous little town & understandably draws in the tourists. If I was in the area I don't think I would want to miss it but then again I think some of the posers would do my head in lol Perhaps it was extra busy because it's somewhere to go on a rainy day, but then again those coaches would be going whatever the weather. Enough said it's a beautiful place with the church setting the scene and a wonderful waterfall right in the centre The moody weather made for atmospheric & unique vistas that you captured well.. The graveyard looked very well cared for but I found the tradition of skulls quite grotesque. I respect traditions of other countries but have to admit shut my eyes for that part of your film haha Absolutely loved the architecture, the pretty painted buildings with the fabulous roses in full bloom ... must be sunny sometimes haha Your apartment sounded fab .. fresh bread and croissants... yummy 😊

It's a lovely village but full of crazy tourists. They seem even more crazy than your average ones 😂 Would you believe it wasn't actually that busy 😂 It gets a LOT worse! I wouldn't have been there had the weather been good but was making the most of what I had to work with. The skulls certainly were pretty unique and felt more comfortable in the chapel than I did with the mad tourists 😂 I didn't get that creepy feeling like I did at the Kirkmadrine chapel. It was sunny the day I was leaving. Just my luck. The apartment was great but not the weather. I'm glad you enjoyed this rainy day explore of Hallstatt Village. Thanks for watching. Have a great weekend 👍🙂Paul

salt and skulls, what more could you ask for? well, other than less people.😉 i can see why it's so many visit. lovely town, beautiful views, and an excellent waterfall! dare i say i could hear a bit of "i gotta get outta here" in your voice when you were commenting on all the people. 🤭 and then the stairs, you couldn't break off from the pack fast enough. you make me laugh hermit even when you don't plan on it. this place really is pretty even on a day like this. i like a rainy walk as long as i've got the right gear or it's warm. that might have been the prettiest graveyard i've ever seen. although the removal and custom due to space...yikes. the skulls were something, but also made me feel weird. probably is the point. did you go out on the swan paddle boats of camera? you could be away from the people that way. 😂uh, so, this has become a novel... take longer to read than to watch your episode.🤣 hope you're having a great week, paul! 🛴❤

Hi Anne, I actually visit the salt mine on this trip (video coming soon) and pass an entrance to an old salt mine in my next video. That waterfall was pretty cool and you know me too well with all those people. All the mad tourists at that 😂 Tho I'm glad my video was also a comedy. I have talents I didn't know I had 😂 Well I was in full waterproofs and had an umbrella so I was fine but of course would have preferred sunny. Then I would have been up in the mountains somewhere tho. The skulls were pretty unique and I was lucky to have the place to myself for a time. I didn't go on the paddle boats but did take the ferry across to the train station when leaving Hallstatt. I may have a video on that coming down the pipeline soon too. Now my reply is war and peace which makes my video seems rather short now 😂Thank you very much for taking time to watch. Have a great week 🙂👍Paul

The view is really breath taking. No wonder UNESCO WHS. The Bone House is a bit scary for me to imagine how the skulls are taken out and then dried and painted...
