This isn't Saxon, it's Norman. Groby Castle, to be exact. This episode (The House of the White Queen) has some of the coolest archaeology in the entire series, yet I also feel like it's one of the worst episodes, because the "expert" doesn't know what she's talking about, and most of the timeline is wildly incorrect (they literally show a family tree during the episode that proves everything she says is wrong). The only thing the Greys had to do with any of the archaeology excavated in this episode is that they tore it down, and lived in the brick house that's still standing today. This episode SHOULD have been about the de Ferrers family who lived in Groby Castle for hundreds of years, but the "expert" rewrote history in order to promote her book on the White Queen (who apparently never even lived in Groby, according to the latest research presented on the official town of Groby website). I strongly suspect this is one of the episodes Mick Aston was referring to when asked why he left the series. Great archaeology, beautiful location, and the main cast is brilliant as always, but terrible research based upon a false premise.
It is good episodes of Time Team are being uploaded. They should keep on exploring sites that other teams can then "take over and keep on excavating" If Tony and his team of experts are getting too old, tired and arthritic to do the digging, there must be younger people who can do the digging and learn from the experts... Possible take over more and more work as time goes on. Or are there no more sites to explore?
