12"35 the "pools" are where the smokestacks were. Fun fact about the Titanic: it had 4 smokestacks but only 3 were functional because having 4 made it look more aesthetically pleasing.

The 4th did serve some purpose however-It served as a ventilation shaft for the turbine engine room, as well as a chimney for the only functional fireplace on the ship, in the 1st class smoking room. It also acted as ventilation for a few other spaces, I believe.
