Quinn began his acting career on stage and made his film debut in 1940 in the movie "Parole Fixer." He went on to appear in over 200 films throughout his career.Some of Quinn's most famous roles include his portrayal of Zorba the Greek in the film "Zorba the Greek," for which he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1964.Other notable roles include Auda Abu Tayi in "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962), Colonel Andrea Stavrou in "The Guns of Navarone" (1961), and Mountain Rivera in "Requiem for a Heavyweight" (1962). Unfortunately, his life came to an end on June 3, 2001, at the age of 86. The cause of his passing was respiratory failure, which was attributed to complications from radiation treatment he received for lung cancer, a disease he battled for years before his death. His wife, Kathy Benvin, requested permission from the Bristol authorities to bury her late husband in his favorite spot in the backyard of their house, which overlooked the serene Narragansett Bay. The authorities granted the request, and the actor was laid to rest in the peaceful setting, surrounded by the lush greenery and the tranquility he cherished so much.
