Thanks for the 30 min tour. I was there in March, but just walked by the Midway on my morning walk. Wasn't feeling like a tour of an aircraft carrier. Now I know what I missed. 😁
Hey, you didn't have to do this! What a great guy, to throw this fun and knowledge in everyone's direction! I didn't see this one coming, sort of more of an exhibit tour than a travel destination tour; but score it just the same :)
Impressive! I've been to the USS Missouri and Pearl Harbor museums in Hawaii, but this is far more extensive. I note that sailor was cleaning the floor with a toothbrush -- must have been a bad boy!
I came by to comment if I haven't already done so -- thank you so much for this video! Because of your video, we really enjoyed USS Midway and saw all the places we would have missed if we had wandered around on our own. We loved it and spent a good 5 hours here thanks again!
My family and I visited many years ago. It’s an amazing ship! I was having a great time, until I encountered the elderly man, that was running a simulator ride at that time. While I was watching, a group of Japanese tourists climbed onboard. You could clearly hear them laughing and screaming and having a great time. The elderly man looked at a group of Caucasian folks, and said ‘they think they’re Kamikaze pilots.’ He wasn’t even joking. The folks that he was talking to, clearly looked uncomfortable, and I was mortified at his comment. My father and his entire family lost everything, when they were put into internment camps during WWII. I have had to endure rude comments thrown my way, most of my growing up years, because I’m American of Japanese descent, born in the early 60’s. I felt this elderly man was being offensive towards these tourists, and it really bothered me at that time.
I would so love to see all this in person as my dad served on the Midway, but I'll probably never get to visit California. If I ever do get to go to California, I'll definitely be visiting this aircraft carrier. Thank you for sharing this. My dad used to talk about it, and I've always wanted to see it.
So thanks from a Uss Kitty Hawk CV 63 sailor alot of my family served, unfortunately my ship was decommissioned & scrapped. Ive been on the Uss Midway tour and hope it never gets the scrapped.
Fantastic, thanks Chris!!! I grew up in San Diego, and for most of my life, I've gone back every 4-5 years for nostalgia reasons. This is probably the only attraction I haven't visited yet, and its definitely on my list for the next visit !!! Just awesome!!!!
This is the BEST video I have seen you do and I have seen many! You seem so knowledgeable. Were you stationed on a ship like this. Super interesting! I definitely want to see it!
Man i just saw the ship 2 days ago i cant get enough, i saw new areas i didn't see it was so cool walking through i wish i could have seen more of the ship the block off area interested me the most so many room and hallway to go down thank you for the video it made my visit so much more memorable.
Most of what is blocked off is used as offices and such for the staff and volunteers on board, and not to mention a lot of spaces are just copy and paste of whats on the public tour route.
In the navy the bathrooms are called heads like in the army the bathroom is called the litrain. Oh and sins (ships internal navigation system) room.... are they sinning in there? Pun literally intended. Big time 😅 oh and the ship ran on oil fired boilers and steam turbines.
I stayed on board a ship for a few days in New Orleans when I was in the service, and we were assigned those triple bunks. Very tight quarters, especially when everybody is trying to change uniforms at the same time lol.
I was recently in San Diego for work. The only day I had a chance to go see the midway happened to be the day that Tom Cruise was doing the premier for the new Top Gun.. so I didn't get a chance to see it. The ship just sat there staring at me at night when I'd walk by taunting me lol. Thanks for the video!
@@YellowProductions I was a Docent on the USS Midway Museum for fourteen years. You should be somewhat knowledgeable about your topic before making questionable comments on Midway’s exhibits. Fox-Two.
Nice video! As a Data Systems Technician on the U.S.S. Midway in 1986 I may have maintained that very 642 Bravo in your video (minute 26) among other gear... Believe it or not this beast only had 32k of memory, consisting of tiny magnetic donuts with wires going through them in different directions. Send a current down a wire running in a certain direction imparting a certain magnetic field, then a current down another wire to read that field (one or zero)! If I recall ,the bottom couple of 'drawers' consisted of these magnetic donut arrays. Pretty amazing when you think that, as of this writing, you can buy a solid state drive, the size of a stick of gum, that holds 2 terabytes of data for under a hundred dollars!
Very interesting, thanks. I always wondered what the day to day life of a pilot on a aircraft carrier was like. Were they just wandering around the ship, watching the sailors mop the floors, when not flying, or where they somehow involved with the upkeep and maintenance of the ship too? (Not a question, just me musing.)
Very enjoyable, brought back memories of our trip in 2017. That night we had dinner in the Kansas City Barbeque restaurant nearby where they filmed the bar scenes from the original Top Gun movie.
I went to this ship museum several years ago. It was absolutely amazing! My brother was in the Navy and I really enjoyed seeing what it must have been like for him. Thanks for the memories!
