I don't know how many times I said wow during this video. The conglomerates are like Montana pudding stones deluxe! The range of colors is extraordinary. What a fun and magnificent place to rockhound! The Chopper cam is fantastic. I can't believe he went diving for a rock! He's a totally cool dog. 🐾💕 Thank you for sharing this great video!
Okay okay so beautiful all the colours and very pretty landscape. Next time you go take a magnet on a string you might find things like iron stone or hematite. I have found a few magnetic rocks and they are interesting for sure. And Chopper is funny and cute and makes a pretty good camera guy/ dog. Thanks for taking the time to help edit Choppers portion of your video. Have fun and keep blowing my mind.
Kim, the rocks are so beautiful! Choppers footage is great. He’s so curious. Good job on your video Chopper! 😁. Did Dennis carry the ice cream sandwich?
(Geology info Link below comment) Premier of Chopper Cam! I love this video. I know the grizzlies and all the other wildlife were watching me...and hopefully Chopper is too when my head is down on the gravel beds. Aren't these conglomerates/breccia/rocks insane???!!! If anyone wants more technical/geological information about the area I was in, here are a few links: www.fs.usda.gov/detail/custergallatin/landmanagement/resourcemanagement/?cid=stelprd3832945#:~:text=A%20great%20variety%20of%20rocks,incorporated%20into%20younger%20sedimentary%20rocks. pubs.geoscienceworld.org/gsa/gsabulletin/article-abstract/103/11/1458/182503/Kinematic-history-of-a-foreland-uplift-from And pubs.geoscienceworld.org/aapgbull/article-abstract/67/9/1457/563785/Geology-and-Petrology-of-Tertiary-Lignites
Really beautiful area! Love the chopper cam, he's a true rockhound! Ive never seen a dog try to pick up rocks!! Some really interesting geology up there, the conglomerates are VERY unique.... wasn't expecting them to be so bright colored!!!
So cool! Some pieces have brecciated agate in basalt while others have brecciated basalt in agate. And some have both on the same rock! That place is a real honey hole!
Hi Montana. It's my first time seeing your video referred by Theo. I love it. I love your furbaby too. Beautiful rocks. Thank you for sharing your passion and experiences with us. Im beginning to adore this hobby. Blessings 🥰
Hello Rock mom, question for you. I hope you carry protection. I heared Montana has an enormous amount of bears. Don't take any chances.Rock mom please be safe.
Oh yes. Tons of wildlife. I was in an area that has had multiple grizzly bear maulings and fatalities... I'll never be 100% prepared...they will get me if they want to...🥺 I just try my best to be on the lookout...but I'm usually in my own rockhounding world
@@MontanaRockMom PLEASE TRY ANY DEVICES TO SCARE THEM IF POSSIBLE. LIKE FIREWORKS IF IT WORKS. I LIVE IN BRAZIL. ROCKHOUNDING HERE IS NOT AS COMMON AS THERE. THANKS. BUT AS ANEMPATHETIC WITH MIRROR NEURONS TO ADMIRE ALL THE ROCKS AROUND YOU, I ALSO FEEL THE DREAD OF IMAGINING THESE BEARS. I DO FEEL WORRIED ALTHOUGH I DON'T KNOW YOU. MY FAMILY THREW ALL MY ROCKS AWAY BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT IT WAS RUBBLE AND DEBRIS IN MY BEDROOM WHEN I WAS AWAY. IN HEAVEN I WOULD LIVE TO COLLECT ROCKS. I LOVE ROCKS. 😁🇧🇷
Do you know why that particular spot has so many conglomerates? They are so pretty, but odd to find so many in one place. Chopper did a great job with his GoPro! Oops! Just read your note above. I'll check out the geology link. Thanks. Glad to see Dennis with you in that remote area. I wish you had a huge cart so you could take home all the ones you like. Such a wonderful, beautiful area you live in. It's so great that you share it with us.
Here's a link to the geology of the area incase you want more info: www.fs.usda.gov/detail/custergallatin/landmanagement/resourcemanagement/?cid=stelprd3832945#:~:text=A%20great%20variety%20of%20rocks,incorporated%20into%20younger%20sedimentary%20rocks.
You have the most colorful rocks I’ve ever seen. I wish Montana was closer to Texas. I really love your doggie cam. That’s cool to watch. I wonder if I could get my cat to wear one of those? Have fun out there and watch for critters. Happy Trials 👍😎👍❤️
Absolutely love the Chopper cam videos. So funny. Beautiful rocks. I would love to get some of those beauties. Do you sell any of your finds? I love Montana rocks and agates. I have bought some from a couple of your friends from here on RU-vid. I only buy from those I watch. Those were crazy looking and just so awesome.
Is this a particular area of the yellowstone River? I live in northern Colorado almost on the wyoming state line. Awesome video. I would like to take my oldest granddaughter and the family up there.
Wow what unique rocks! Neat day, thanks for sharing! I wonder what all those different nodules were composed of…that one with the red and green together in the same nodule made me think of watermelon tourmaline🤩
Right! Agatized conglomerates.... What!!! 🤯 I am so in love with these. I was playing online one day and I saw some polished conglomerate slabs that were jaw dropping....oh my goodness I thought to myself. Then I remembered a place that had some spectacular conglomerates and wondered how I could have forgotten about them. I think when I slab a couple, anyone who thought less of a conglomerate might change their mind 😉
Chopper's footage was so fun! Wow, that stuff is amazing! The colors are amazing! And the textures out of this world! Ive never see anything like that before. They are gorgeous! Wow! So pretty They are just everywhere and the colors are just amazing! Those are like once in a lifetime finds!
These rocks are just wow! Can't wait to see the slabs and the polish of these. Theo likes big rocks, send him over there. Chopper's Gopro footage is priceless. I don't wish any grizzly encounter for you guys.
Chopper is the true meaning of a "rock hound". Those tracks looked very fresh and big. Like I was told when I lived in Big Sky, don't worry about the grizzlies as much as the mountain lions. Conglomerates have always been cool in my eyes.
I'm hoping Chopper alerts me to any large cats in the area. The cats scare me the most. Hopefully he can smell them, right? Unless he's under water, lol. I don't want to surprise any bears. I try to be loud, however, often the sound of the river drowns me out. Yes...those prints were very recent as the area has been getting lots of rain. 🐾🐾🐾
@@MontanaRockMom I've seen pics of lions shot in big sky by a guy I worked with building log homes. Seven foot from tip to tail. I'd hate to be stalked by one of those. Chopper would definitely sound off an alarm.
OK, the Chopper cam was kind of awesome. I feel like he needs them music. Those rocks were super cool, I haven't seen any of you MT folks show those before. Lots and lots of blueness going on, you must have been loving it. Thanks for showing us these, those are cool. I think your new angle grinder might just have some new snacks.
This spot is one of my favorites in Montana to hike around... I'm just always scared to go because of all the grizzlies...as you can see the fresh footprints
Kudos to Chopper! Did he also find some kind of a nest at the 6:33 mark? Awesome video as usual, and I would love to have such beautiful conglomerates in my neighborhood. This far south, all we get are sandstone conglomerates with gravel aggregate. Thank you for your efforts! ♥
Yes! He was investigating that for quite a while that I saw on the GoPro...also a couple beaver-like damns, fox holes and any trace of squirrel activity he was on it. He's quite a wilderness adventurer. It was cool for me to see what he does while I am busy looking at rocks. I was fascinated by his perimeter runs and how he was constantly looking in on me through the bushes and trees. He never really went too far off here in this area. Sometimes he does go off exploring, but maybe he could sense more of the wildlife here. He was constantly smelling those grizzly and elk tracks. He was also all over a bunch of Moose tracks.
New to your channel. I hunt agates in Wisconsin and come across black bear tracks quite a bit; I can’t imagine having grizzlies to worry about. Do you and your husband carry protection? The conglomerate is stunning, I especially like the yellow spotted ones never seen anything like it.
He kept walking around holding the bear spray, safety cap off, on high alert! I'd probably get attacked because my head is always down in the gravel. I need to get better at that.
@@MontanaRockMom I’ve just starting really tuning into your videos. I noticed it right away that your eye is very different from the other Yellowstone channels. You really have an eye for color. I’m planning a trip asap!
I don't envy anyone anything they've earned; but I am so glad to hear that someone else gets so jealous, too. I just have to keep saying that she works so hard to do this and went to college and got a degree just to be able to pick up these beautiful rocks like it is the best dream ever. "Drats, I would have kept that one!"
Omg Chopper wanted that rock so bad! On the bottom of the river. haaaa. Such great rocks. Wow, Its like puddingstone but psychedelic. That breccia reminded me of my stuff. Brecciated tuff seams. You need to find that mountain, maybe a tuff cone. It is where the colors and the silica comes from. The breccia that is encased is angular, it was silicated at the source, then river tumbled. The ones with the colorful vesicles are a broken down basalt. Amazing vesicles.
I don't have one of them in my clock collection where do you get them from I live in Tennessee still learning the geological here in the State trying to find out what Stones we have but every time I watch it everybody else has cooler stones that I want to add to my collection how can I get one of them and what exactly is a kilometer Stone what does that mean
A Conglomerate rock contains many smaller rocks or pebbles sort of "glued" together. They can be found all over the world. Have you done much rock collecting in Tennessee? Looks like you have many areas full of good stuff!
Was about to say, "How can you go home from a place like that?" But more fittingly, "Why would you go home from a place like that?" Most amazing rocks ever!!
What amazing conglomerates! Can't wait to see some of them slabbed! Putting the Gopro on Chopper was pretty cool. Never looked at things from a "dog's eye view" before!🐶
first!!! Chopper dive and pick up a rock !!! How insane this can be????? Second, those rocks are AWESOME 🤩!!!! Are beyond beautiful than galaxy stones and pudding stones!!! Those are my new favorites now!!! Some are blue, turquoise and green!! How possible???? Thanks for sharing with us!!!!! ( the yellows!!!!! OMG)
Wow! What a beautiful place. The rocks there are incredible. I really loved the chopper cam, the footage was fantastic. I'd be really scared of bears though. What do you do if you see one???
Make sure they know I'm a human and tell them to go away! If they don't know I'm there and I surprise one, then I'm in trouble. They would probably have me pinned on the ground faster then I could get to my bear spray!
@@MontanaRockMom yeh you wouldnt be able to out run it. It would be amazing to see one, if they keep away from you. Its such a beautiful spot. No bears over here in New Zealand.
Камни у вас красивые 👍🤗 ! А я еще в этом году не ходил за камнями ! Вот, через две недели пойду в отпуск , а тогда уже всенепременнейше за каменной красотой на реку 😉
Hello, I have a sculpture garden in Colorado and several of the sculptures are covered in rocks from that area, but those conglomerates, probably a volcanic breccia of some kind, with the blue-green color really take the cake. I have a lot of the limestone ones you were finding (the yellowish and reddish ones with the more rounded looking clasts). I have collected most of what I have from close to Cooke City and a few other localities in the Beartooths. Montana is truly a hot spot for rocks! When I lived in Billings, we always rock hounded along the Yellowstone. This is the first video of yours I have seen, and I am excited to see some more! Thanks for sharing!
I think it's so cool that you have covered your sculpture garden in rocks from the Beartooth/Cooke City area! I can't wait to go back there next season. I really want more time to explore the geological gifts there- it's just a spectacular area. The Yellowstone river... forever has my heart as well. I hope you are enjoying Colorado 💙
I'm in Spokane and I LIKE maps. Can say roughly where this area is? I always watch videos with a map open...if it can apply. If you say something like "five miles NE or SW of Billings" it's good enough. Thanks. The dog cam is pretty good.
That one that you said "probably iron eroding" what if that was a meteorite?? Would like to have seen you pick that one up. Good video as always. Chopper 😆
Hola Amiga son muy bellas todas las rocas me gustaría estar en tú País yo soy de Paraguay también juntó piedras tienes que cortar x la mitad verás lo hermosa que son saludos
I have a great playlist of cutting my rocks! You should check it out!. I just published another one today.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-joDKjommpZ4.html
