I use to work at that sears.. the mall is still open and it is almost totally empty.. just carpeted hallways to nothing... target at one corner a movie theater at another corner... most people just use it to walk on cold days.. it was huge mall...

I knew the owner of the Fun E Farm. He was a frat brother of mine. Died a couple of years ago from Covid. Probably why the place closed down

You should go to The summit Park Mall in Niagara falls New york. It is abandoned. It had Sears Bon-Ton a couple other places they're still in grocery store that's on the outside. Factory outlet Mall came and then they renamed them all to the fashion outlet Mall. Which has a bunch of high end stores and everything is marked down so a lot of the people from Canada go to the fashion outlets and the Summit Park Mall got neglected and eventually closed

Carpeting seems like a terrible choice for the floor in a mall.

If they decide to take it up one day, it'll be quite a job to clean the glue from the tiles.

Most malls had carpeted sitting areas, but the entire mall, a bad idea, especially in the winter, in the north.

Gerald Celente, a trends researcher, said about 6 years ago that many malls would be converted to apartments. Sounds like a good idea.

It does, sadly malls are being fazed out, part of this new “tech” world. Miss malls and the stories and fun they deliver. But hey, times a changing. Thanks for the comment!
@Pissgremlin5964

Unfortunately that's not a viable solution. I work in construction and the amount of money needed to convert a mall into a place people could live in is astronomical!!! That idea needs to stop coming up. Its not practical. And yes I know it's been done. But jot all these malls are structurally sound enough. They're completely rundown. Like the one in my hometown.

It’s more economical to demo and put up a new residential building. Thats what they’ve been doing with a lot of these properties over the years. Due to the nature of their construction and materials a typical mall has a shelf life of 25 years before needing extensive repairs and renovation. The roof alone on an indoor mall is massive and costs a fortune in upkeep to avoid leaks and mold issues. Thats part of the reason why open air malls made a comeback in the early 2000s. Less roof area to maintain and they don’t have the expense of heating and cooling the mall concourse.

Odd to think these places are either struggling, slowly resurrecting, dying or shutting down in their own terms before it dies a slow death.

carpet in the mall? why do malls in 2024 still have carpet ? No such thing in Aust unless it's a 1970s mall. why are so many malls closing down and being abandoned in the US and why are they all so empty and look so heavy and old?

Fuckin ppl come from all over the world to clown on our mall😭😭 I lived in Kingston my entire life and I have a crazy story abt it. I was like 7 watching are we there yet in the theater w my family in 2005 I believe and after the movie we were gonna get something to eat at the food court, well we got to the exit of the theaters and a guy is ushering everyone out of the mall w the gate closed behind him saying “return to your cars immediately the mall is now closed” and we all were confused asf as was everyone. Anyways we go to riccardis a now closed restaurant and watching the news it was closed bc while we were watching the movie a man attempted to carry out a mass shooting in dicks which is still there today (there’s even less stores currently than there is in this video we’re cooked) and he had an ak47 style rifle and open fired at shoppers and managed to only injure 2 or 12 I forget but there was no deaths thank god however this is something that has NEVER been attempted before or since it’s the only incident of that nature that has ever occurred. He gets released from prison in 2027 I believe his name might be Richard (some Italian last name) idk I forget but he had columbine memorabilia in his car and he had a journal with several scribbled ramblings and it said something like “the most dangerous man is a the lonely man” but this is a true story they have the news reports abt it on RU-vid and I’m sure it’s on google too just search “Hudson valley mall shooting” it will come up.
