After looking through the relics of used PS1 and PS2 memory cards, I just had to find a way to explore PS3's. And realistically, that meant opening an orphanage. The kind where I go out there and find used PS3's from Facebook Marketplace and hopefully finish what they started. @@demosneokleous4877 That's 100% true. They dont boot them up...they dont reset them they dont check if they work...they just pull it out of the closet and sell it. Ive bought many xboxs and playstations with discs still in the drive,dont even know until you get home and power it up. Unless its a ps1...then you can pop the top and see if theres a game in there already but buying a ps1 when you can play the games on a 2 or 3 now days seems kinda pointless besides just the nostalgia.

If I ever sold something like my 3DS's I could never wipe literally ~5000 hours of game saves. Then again I'd never sell my consoles/handhelds.

Unfortunately the PS3 is slow as a snail game updates were the worst taking forever to download and install and not much multitasking you could do. GTA 5 install process was a pain.

@@ryans413 I mean that makes sense right. Game updates over the internet only became a reality that gen. Also some games like GTA 5 and MGS 4 actually fully installed themselves onto the hard drive, that's why it takes so long on first boot. That wasn't even a possibility on the 360 with it having almost no storage out of the box. Some games on the 360 even came on 3 or 4 DVD's because they where too big for a single DVD. The updates take almost the same amount of time on the PS4, it just could not do it at the same time as playing something else. They didn't take into consideration how much the gaming landscape would change in the coming 5 years i guess.

@@ryans413Man, you just brought back painful memories of me being in grade 8 and having to wait for 2 - 3 hours to download Battlefield Bad Company 2 lol. It took so long I couldn’t even play it that night because it was a school night and I had to go to bed, had to wait until I finished school the next day to finally start playing it.

The ps3 is genuinely one of the best game libraries of all time. After having to sell my ps5 due to financial issues, I've been playing a ton of ps3, and i have been realizing just how fun these games are. If you wanna get a little mischievous, a lot of modders have custom updates for many games, like with Ncaa 14, where they made a mod that updates the roster, gameplay, and gives you more features. It truly is sad how it was hated so much throughout its life.

I agree it's probably the best game library overall, there is so much available, especially with the collections and psone backward compatibility even if you don't have a model that can play ps2 it's still the best in my opinion.

11:34 It's fully possible this console and the last one were connected to HDMI and had themes on but they did a display output reset by holding the power button for two beeps. That resets any theme setting and resets to RCA cable or SD output, even when using HDMI.

Didn't make the final cut but only that one console had additional themes so that might be the case. I just figure if they didn't bother to wipe and restore, then they probably didn't reset the signal but that would definitely make sense!

Now that I have you on the line though, a bit of nitpicking for you, because the Fremdscham is getting to me: A CPU unit is a PROCESSOR, not a "process". Been cringing every time I hear you say it since forever. Other than that, hot dang what a great channel you have. You take it easy. 😉

@@Henkibojj Thank you! As for your nitpick, I'm aware a CPU is a processor. I think you're referring to when we discuss nanometer sizes. Which would be the correct terminology in the context of fabricating chips. ie: (Sony/TSMC moved the process size over to 6nm on PS5 in 2022) Apologies if I often use it outside of the fabrication context, just a habit.

That Kingdoms of Amalur save file had me laughing, because I immediately thought of my 600+ hours in TES: Oblivion. Sometimes a game can just swallow you whole. The weirdest thing is that I only followed the story for about 10 hours (closed one Oblivion gate). My remaining time with the game was spent doing a couple of side quests, picking insane amounts of mushrooms and flowers and exploring close to every inch of the map. Still to this day my most played game. Just Cause 2 comes pretty close, but still ends up in second place. Amazing PS3 memories! 🙂

I’ve seen RU-vidrs play second hand PS2 saves but never second hand PS3 saves. I’ve always thought that was because memory cards are a lot more interchangeable than hard drives. Really interesting video.

It is. PS3 HDD is fully encrypted and, in addition to that, save-files are tagged with user-id. In contrast, PS1/2 and PSP files can even be moved between real hardware and emulator freely.

I used to buy and sell Nintendo 3DS consoles and my favourite thing to do was scrolling through the Activity Log and Gallery, seeing what I could find, what they played and for how long etc.

I'm shocked at the cost of these. The Sony refurbishment warehouse near me sells PS3s for $70 to $90 depending on their hard drive size. I've bought a couple and they look new, fully factory refurbished, have a dualshock and cables, 90 day warranty - and when I went into their store on the front of the warehouse, the people give a couple of games with them.

Everytime i see the PS3 home screen it reminds me of my PSP that I owned as child, got rid of it many years ago but I remember playing a few games on there. I haven't owned a ps3 before only the ps2, psp and ps4 (all of which I no longer have).

I have a couple of games that are a bronze away from platinum, which I could do simply by completely a mini game. Done with those games and not bothered enough to get them.

Because of this video I finally got myself a CHECHK02 PS3 fat, I was a Nintendo Wii + WiiU kid and skipped both xb360 and ps3 era gaming. Pretty good so far, just need to do thermal pastes for both.
