Wales lives up to is’t reputation for being a tough place to cycle. The lovely locals we met made us feel right at home, making the ride incredibly fun. Have you ever been cycling in Wales and what was your experience? Have a great day, E&M
I now live in Wales, also. I'm 74 & just bought a better Electric Bike. This one does go up the hill's although here in the Valley's, they tend to call the bump's either side, Mountain's ! LOL Going up them, feel's like Mountain's.... 40 year's ago, I use to 'Tour' Wales often. Never had problem with midges. (Found them in Scotland.) Wales is a lovely place to cycle. Hill's to view everywhere. The route it look's like you are taking in Scotland is nice. Midges free, they were over on the Western side. I've not watched your video yet, but SAVED IT for another day.
Hi Victoria 😊 So happy to hear from you! Thanks again for that incredible moment. Say hello to Bouncer. Wishing you all the very best and lots of tailwind 😉 E&M
These videos are always the highlight of my RU-vid feed. Your sense of adventure and incredible filmmaking are so inspiring. How you manage to put out such beautiful films while on the road is kind of mind-blowing. Stay safe, guys.
Thank you for those lovely words Peter. We did that for the longets time. Now we have some off time too so we can edit with more dedication. All the best, E&M
The quality of this episode is just exceptional, both in terms of content and footage. Thank you for taking us along throughout this "next door" adventure across the UK. Because you are great people yourselves, you often times come across extra-ordinary human beings.
You two are wonderful together and that joy, for lack of a better word, seems to be projected to the people you encounter on the road. The kindness, openness and genuine interest you exhibit is so attractive to others. It is a gift and such a wonderful way to live your life. Thank you for creating and sharing these inspiring videos.
I don't see anything amateurish in your videos anymore, you guys have become really good at your craft: the story-telling, the b-rolls, the editing, everything feels smooth, at the right pace, no un-necessary shots, nice encounters, a very good watch !
This is the first time I have seen any of your videos. Subscribed within the first 5 minutes! So nicely put together and the both of seem like lovely people. Can’t wait to flow the series and catch up on what I’ve missed. Thanks RU-vid algorithm! 🙂
I enjoyed beautiful and scenic views of the vallyes of Wales and hospitality of villagers on the way - specially the old wood worker, doing job by simple traditional tools.
Those midges didn't look fun, but the countryside and the people were so beautiful. I really love the relationship the two of you have, and your mutual love of coffee!
I remember those midges from a bicycle tour in Wales about thirty years ago. They tried getting in your ears, in your nose. It was one awful night in a tent and yes, no peeing. We slept in Bed and Breakfasts for the rest of our holidays.
Another great video. Again, you've really captured the adventure experience soo well. Nothing is worse, than having to ride another 15 km when your sore and tired. You've seemed to struggle sometimes, in Wales, to find that perfect wild camping site. The kindness of strangers is also surprising, but something about being a cyclist seems to elicit this. In this video you've included more of the people you've meet on the way, which makes the experience richer.
When we were ten years old one year was a tenth of our life at that time, seemed like a long time. When we are sixty, one year is just 1/60 of our life, seems very short. This said, I retired earlier this year and it seemed like time just slowed down. Been cycling nearly every day preparing myself for a long trip/adventure next spring. Your videos make me want to get going even more - thanks.
Beautifully filmed and edited, thank you for sharing your trip with us, I’m already looking forward to the next episode, the scenery in Snowdonia is magnificent 😊
Midges 😃. A couple of tips (although they will nearly always win). No.1 is DO NOT CAMP NEAR WATER, 2- always carry a midge head net, 3- cover every bit of skin possible, 4- keep tent closed and only open if you realy need to, 5- travel late season Oct onwards as more likely to be a breeze - midges then go to ground. Great video as always. Thank you for the inspiration. X
What a great trip so far. Nice people , that village was so beautiful and that café looked so good. 25% Wow. Now that's a climb for sure and all those bugs. Thanks for another outstanding video and my wife uses the same trick on me too. Seems like beautiful partners get there way.😁😁 Take care, Al
Fantastic video, your experiences, personalities, narration and super filming techniques make it a really great watch, well done and best wishes to you both😊
Cycled from South to North Wales this summer - it's always uphill, and there's a headwind no matter the direction. The people are so kind though and the nature so beautiful 😍
Ive been in Wales once around Pembrikshire coast hiked from Haverforwdest down to near Skomer island in Dale, I loved there too much, I felt like at the very edge of the wild and windy mystical world from a dragon era. I also went to Nash point cliffs, I truly fell in Love with wild surreaslistic Wales, no wonder even the name sounds like WHALES, I call it WILD WHALES. I am going there soon again this time to explore the whole Wales. PURE MAGIC. Keep going my EU fams. m from Lithuania, amazing jungle like lush country with endless lakes and tallest trees, nature like that from an old painting!
That's absolutely true about time speeding up when you do routine days. When you are young everything is new and exciting but as you grow older you get into a routine, your life is more settled. Routine is the enemy of time. That's why what you are doing will keep the wonder fresh and therefore the time slow. I try to do something new every week, go to a new place, try a new food, etc. to keep time from flying by.
I'm lucky enough to live and daily cycle in Ceredigion, so glad you found it friendly as we are !! Yeah the midges, I love all creatures but they do test you. Scotland has a fair few as well. Grab some Vicks vapour rub most shops sell it. You possibly have it in your country or something similar it's for colds etc but the midges don't like the menthol. Thank You for this upload. Keep safe and happy guys.
Thanks for the tip! We have Vicks back home too. Sounds better that spraying yourself down with Deet. You are indeed lucky, such a beautiful place! Enjoy & Best wishes, E&M
Hello! Leffe, the Belgian beer here 🍺Love your videos guys. I think it depends on all the impressions you get all the time. You see new things all the time, and experience new things with all your senses. At home, everything is often casual. I have been out cycling touring for 4 months this summer. When I look at cards a month ago, it feels like years ago. Amazing. So I think it has to do with all the new impressions. The brain is busy keeping up. Lots of love to you guys 🙏❤🥰
We loved watching this video. It’s great see you in Britain. I love the way you are taking the time to meet people and so pleased you’ve had a warm welcome. The cinematography in your videos is fabulous. We’ll done for getting up the 25% climb!! 👍😊🚴🚴
Thanks Sandra 😊 A pretty intense realisation the story behind that sculpture. We hope it will give some exposure to a difficult topic. Best wishes, E&M
Beautifully shot video. I hope you pass through Harlech on your journey, its seemingly endless sandy beach is a place I visited frequently when I lived in the UK. Lovely to see you both so happy and clearly very much in love. Have fun, keep smiling and peddling. 😎🚴♂️
Love your latest video guys. About time slowing down, think of it like this: The more differences/new experiences in your day, the more "folds" to your memory. Each fold makes it feels longer to get from time A to time B. Basically, the more folds in your life, the better.
A beautiful video of beautiful Wales. I think your route will also take through Yorkshire/Borders region which is also stunning although 25% hills are common. It is a shame that you are not doing Scotland north of Edinburgh but presume seasons intervened? Scotland is the ultimate in what the UK offers! Best wishes. .
Thanks Mik! Scotland and other parts of the UK and Ireland are definitely on our radar. We'll do a more dedicated tour there in the future. All the best, E&M
Easy going and interesting commentary from two experienced cycle tourists. Wonderful to see. It's been a while since I've been in Wales, and I loved the route you have chosen. Happy cyling travels.
I really agree with you on time on a tour. I'm just back from a 2 week cycle tour across Portugal and Spain. It really felt more like 2 months. Love your tour videos.
Loved the vid. We are on tour now in Europe. Prague to Athens. We started in Scotland in August. Loved it except for the midges. Keep up the great work.
so glad that you two embraced my home, coz it will embrace you back and reward you ten fold. As somebody who's biked many of the countries that you guy have over many years including Himalaya, through India and down to Indonesia and Europe to Israel, i can tell you, i have a wry smile on my face, because i get to sneak away for a few hours at least 3 times a week and just have my mind blown by my county Bucks and the Chilterns, while many are walking along just looking at the pavement. If you get the chance one day, please try the cosy side (especially the south east) including the Ridgeway Trails, i honestly find myself not knowing whether to laugh or cry at some of the views and that's after being above the clouds looking at Everest. Thanks John
That sounds really special. We have a similar experience back home at the coast. Just so incredible and unique. Loads of stunning places but seeing the beauty back home is an underestimated experience. All the best, E&M
@@WheelstoWander ha, just got in from a ride and your message was here. Looking forward to watching more in the future and maybe we'll bump into eachother on the road soon.
Can't believe you cycled the Gap, the roman road to Brecon, I live close to it and have done it many times on a full sus mountain bike and that is hard, then you went up the Devils Staircase, 25%, you know how to suffer, enjoy the rest of your trip, Chris.
Guys, your journey through Wales is incredibly beautiful. We were there just few weeks back and it was already quite cold to camp, but you are not hindered by it, so brave! You chose the best places to cycle in Britain and Im sure you will be looking out for only positive experiences. Best of luck and hopefully next time you can ride through Oxford where you could be our guests and ride together:)
Thank you for your uplifting comment and invitation Svetlana 😊 We wish you many lovely miles and perhaps our paths will cross someday! All the best, E&M
Wales reminds me of New Zealand where people will invite you into their homes, lots of hills, and midges! Great video. I've often wondered what I'd do if I needed to pee in the middle of the night and it was chucking it down with rain (or midges) outside. We just make sure we don't drink an hour or two before bed and that's worked okay for us so far. What do you guys do? Pee bottle?
Thanks Nomad Life Kiwi! We also try and not drink to much before bed. We used a pee bottle in the past but not having to wake up is even beter! All the best, E&M
Great to hear that you enjoyed Wales. You certainly found one of the best Cafe stop in Dolgellau. The hills are all part of the fun but the midges are definately not. They must have had a deal with mosquitoes in NL. We got badly bitten on our recent cyclecamping trip to your lovely country. Croeso i Gymru.
Thank you Paula 😊 Wales had been so great for us! Indeed the midges are not fun at all but a small price to pay for such a lovely experience. It looks like the number of mosquitos are increasing here in NL... Hope the next time will be better! All the best, E&M
firstly thank you to all the hospitable people that you met giving our country a great reputation. your so right eric about time going by so quickly. i need to get out on my bike more and slow time down. great video as always
@@WheelstoWander I got a funny look from a dog walker :) Other than that no, I barely saw anyone else. I cycled past the spot, went for a beer in Barmouth, cycled back and waited at the picnic table until near dark before pitching the tent. It was a beautiful scene as dusk fell. Then packed up early in the morning. The next day I cycled to a campsite south of Mount Snowden and walked to the top by mid-afternoon. That was a great trip. I'm glad you both enjoyed your journey :)
Hey Dollgelau. Went there 35 years ago and had a cold reception. It was a time when people in Wales were angry at the English buying up all the land. I’m Canadian, I explained to some local toughs and had a beer with them. I recall the town name is pronounced doll-geth-nee.
Yes, long time ago (1985) we cycled in the south of England and Whales as a sort of try-out for our biketrip to Israel. We just did a small part of Whales but enjoyed it very much as we did in the south of England. Although, we weren't prepaired for the hills as soon as you leave the ferry in Dover. Asked people every night if we could pitch our tent in their garden or meadow. Never any problem and we were often invited in their houses to have a shower, eat together and have breakfast the next morning. Lovely people on the other side od the North-sea. Enjoy your trip. Regards Henk and Lucie. (Vught).
The reason time seems to speed up as you get older: When you are four years old, a year of your life is a quarter of your life. When you are fifty, a year is a fiftieth of your life. So we inherently sense that the interval period between one birthday and the last one is shorter.
sleep high up in the hills to avoid the muskitos, spoke to a guy who went bikepacking in the scotish highlands and down in the vallys you get eaten alive but higher up not that much
thanks for sharing. What a lovely and beautiful adventure. I appreciate you adding place names so that we can follow along on the map. It would also be nice if you cound provide a link to a gpx file of your route, for those of us that may want to follow in your footsteps!
Thank you too Andy! We don't have a dedicated gpx route to share. A great idea though! I am not sure what the best way would be to collect the gps data into a route file... All the best, E&M
Another lovely, inspiring video E&M. Thank you. Have you ever looked into Warm Showers? It’s a network of cyclists and bike friendly people who open their homes to cycle tourists.
Thanks 😊 We did but with our video work on the road we feel it wouldn't be fair working full time for a few days at somebodies place. It's a wonderful thing though and maybe we will change our way of working and do a bit more of that. All the best, E&M
Amazing video. You make me want to pack my panniers and go explore! When you get to Liverpool give me a shout and can give you a tour and somewhere warm to sleep :)
Thank you for your hospitable invitation Ian. We skipped a bit from Chester to Lancaster by train. We hope your explorations come to fruition! All the best, E&M
Great videos! Is there a name to this route you chose? Can we find it on a map? Is it planned out on Komoot or Ride for example? Or did you navigate it yourself?
TH Robert’s cafe is loverly. Used to be a hard wear store and you can still see the signs of the old shop inside. Been there with my daughter when we went cycling along the Mawddach Cycle trail which takes you over the old wooden railway bridge to Barmouth. Very windy towards Barmouth. Brings back memories There is a campsite half way along the trail on the left. You have to climb up a small incline to get to it though. Also a nice pub along the route next to the toll bridge.
Nice to hear you have been there while out cycling with your daughter and it brings back some memories! A real nice area that part of Wales 😊 All the best & Tailwinds, E&M
