In the heart of Guangdong, we visited Xinjiang town, rich in Hakka culture and cuisine. After a long day on the road and coronavirus-related lodging issues, we sought comfort at the Sheraton. Despite the challenges, the Sheraton's hospitality, including free morning coffee, made our situation memorable.
Our gastronomic trip took us to a nearby Hakka restaurant, where sweet and sour pork with bacon were beautifully presented. The authentic flavors and kind hospitality reminded us of Hakka cuisine's beauty and depth.
Stone and marble production in Western Guangdong town revealed another side. Our jaws dropped as we drove past endless storefronts and warehouses filled with stone and marble in every color, texture, and form. This industry's size and variety showed the town's craftsmanship and specialization.
Daijinshan's steep and twisting roads to the mountain tested our driving skills. The mountaintop sunset and amazing vistas were worth the difficult climb. Despite the cold and alone, sleeping under the stars was peaceful and meditative, ending with a peaceful dawn.
This trip across Xinjiang and up Daijinshan revealed Guangdong's unique landscapes and culture. From the challenges of finding lodging to the thrill of discovering local cuisine and the breathtaking majesty of nature, the tour showed the region's tenacity, hospitality, and beauty. Join us as we discover China's hidden stories, flavors, and sights that distinguish its provinces.
Yunfu is a city in Western Guangdong that is often overlooked.

The scenery from the peak of mountain was awesome. There are also great Buddhist temple in this town. Maybe you can visit it if you come again in the future.

Xinxing is also famous for its Buddhism legacy, wonder if you’ve been to the temple or the Buddha Spring Resorts other than just staying in Sheraton.

actually, yes. i was only at the Sheraton for a night (it was the only hotel in town that would accept me). But i spent 3 days in the area including a hidden old town with a lot of buddhism legacy... did an entire video on it. it was great!

There must be a huge rock quarry in this part of western Guangdong to support so many companies. Wonder where they are and what kind of rocks they mine.

I saw a few in the area, but with the massive variety of choice there, i would say the majority of the supply is imported from all over China and indeed, the world.

Most of the stones are imported. There is nothing that can be mined locally. All the worthless stones that can be mined locally are made into cement, because this is the most backward fifth tier city in Guangdong, There are not many tourist attractions or specialties,The main sources of government revenue are the taxes from stone factories and cement factories,Ten years ago, because of environmental protection,Stone factories that failed to meet environmental requirements were closed,Local young people now go to Guangzhou, Foshan and Shenzhen to make money,It's very difficult for local companies to recruit staff.

I am surprised it is economical to import stones from far away to such a remote location for processing.
