I think just the fact that these two attacks on heavy bomber bases came at exactly the same time says Ukraine. I mean what are the chances that two accidents are going to happen at heavy bomber bases hundreds of miles apart at exactly the same time? They're too astronomical to credit. So I think it it has to be Ukraine and I think they're smart to not take any credit for it.
@rusty9045
@rusty9045 Год назад
Remember, that attack happened just hours before Russia let loose with its missiles in another attempt to destroy infrastructure. As a result of that attack, Russia did not launch any missiles from aircraft at those bases. Instead, the missiles came from in and around the Crimea area. A lot of cat and mouse going on here. Incredible timing by the Ukrainians. Top notch intelligence combined with Russian incompetence.

I guess Macron would have advised Churchill and Roosevelt to back off with the D Day Landings and do a deal with A. H. and let him keep half of France for agreeing with some sort of new order. However we got into this mess, invading countries and decimating populations is unacceptable. Appeasing dictators solves nothing and is an insult to people who are tying to defend their chosen liberty. My guess is that Macron knows that.

It's truly mind boggling, now that Germany's Scholz seems to finally have at least partially woken up from the German political elite's slumber of ignorance and appeasement towards Russia, AND after Macron just came back from Washington where he was even pushing Biden on Ukraine (because the EU apparently now has a tougher stance on Russia than the US, now "officially" labelling it as a state sponsor of terrorism), there he is back again with this appeasement stuff. All the while JUST having advocated for an international tribunal on russian war crimes! Can anybody figure this guy out? I'm really trying my best here! And I even liked Macron when he was elected during the Trump years for they SAID he's gonna be a huge pain in Putin's a**. Well seems like it's not the kind of pain I've been expecting... One of the reasons Macron gets it in the neck when he talks about finding a peaceful outcome is that this search is very difficult. This conflict is all about Crimea and specifically, Sevastapol. All the other minor causes would not amount to a cause for war - just grumbling as per normal. The Russians have concluded that their hold over Crimea is only safe if Ukraine is neutered - poor, landlocked and run from the Kremlin. A land bridge is not enough. When Russia talks about security guarantees what they really mean is that the West accepts the annexation of Crimea and will prevent Ukraine attempting to retake it. Unmolested, Ukraine would within 5 yrs have been able to put Crimea under terrible pressure. Just as the Russians could not keep Kherson city so the geography makes Crimea a very tough place for them to hang onto. So, how can this conflict end? Either Ukraine is crushed which the West does not want for many reasons. Or, Russia gives up on Crimea which is highly unlikely as now core to whole defense concept. Is Crimea worth a nuclear bomb? Maybe to Russia and here the West gets very scared because at the end of the day, the West is not that interested in Crimea - not really. Certainly not worth nuclear confrontation. So the West only provides enough support to prevent either side gaining the upper hand in the hope that something good happens by chance. Meanwhile people die in their thousands...
@rusty9045
@rusty9045 Год назад
It's beginning to look like Zelensky and Ukraine can only really count on their own efforts. It's amazing that we are willing to give up an opportunity to effectively neuter the Russian army. Let's hope that the Ukrainian army can keep moving forward with its various offensives and capture enough military hardware and munitions to force the Russians to stop fighting when NATO eventually gives up. Let's further see whether NATO allies, Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea have the backbone to maintain their technology embargo with Russia. After military hardware, limiting technology transfers to Russia is the next best weapon the west has against Russia.

Not going into 1000 reasons why they are wrong on this imo, but just one: stop being ruled by fear. NATO needs not being afraid of nuclear escalation, it's clearly got the upper hand on this, by all accounts. And yes, there is going to be a time for Russia after Putin, and no, we don't exactly know how it's going to continue, but given all of this, why would anybody even need these "guarantees" to begin with if we don't know who we could be dealing with in the future? Doesn't sound very logical to me. Also I can't be the only one here finding it very strange, conservatively speaking, that the same guy who voluntarily agreed to providing a tribunal for RF war criminals (Macron) is AT THE SAME TIME advocating for "security guarantees" for them, now that we've supposedly passed the point of "face-saving solutions". Please. Just stop with this fake diplomacy. It's not going anywhere.

Macron is too clever and professional to be the appeaser that shallow thinkers/commenters make him out to be. France is doing what needs to be done, i.e. talk about time to begin to put an end to this war. Unjust and brutal though it is to Ukraine, political leaders don't and shouldn't think idealistically, but realistically. With the war frozen where the two armies currently stand, time will likely work in Ukraine's favour and to Russia's detriment. A demographically decimated, strategically vanquished and economically isolated Russia is in for some very tough decades ahead. A demographically decimated Ukraine enjoying strong Western technical, financial, political and military backing will likely bounce back and become a vastly different country in the next 20 years. So, although Macron also has other reasons to talk the way he does - including his concern that with Ukraine inside the EU a Poland-Ukraine axis could rival the Francogerman one - he's definitely not blind to how Time will do the rest - that is, crush Russia in its current form. So why prolong the war now? After all, Ukraine reconstruction is going to be massive business for European and American businesses, and can't start one day too soon for Ukrainians themselves.

@PeterSedesse

to deliver a million barrels every day to germany requires 8 tankers. to deliver a million barrels every day to china requires 90 tankers. Not only is it doubtful they can acquire that many extra tankers, but the cost to transport to china is significantly less profitable.
