Glad this is finally being discussed instead of fear of losing a potential sponsor. It is a mild annoyance because it's not so many publishers but imagine dozens did this. Others have taken the bundle route instead which is better optics.

I think greed has a firm grasp on these publishers. The most direct way I can think of to counteract that is to simply not support them.

This is true, there's really no need for it and it really hurts other small publishers, especially those that self-publish.

Red Deer is a sad case to me. They publish some great games, but they fill the eShop up with the same game over and over again.

Here's the bottom line. A game that needs so many releases most likely is garbage and shouldn't be purchased in the first place. True DLC will be just that, a DLC for the base game, and perhaps a complete edition bundle once all are published. I do own a few games, Syndrome and Circa Infinity, but these two titles are good, in my opinion, compared to what is being released in recent memory. I, for one, am glad something is being said about some other publishers. In the end, it's Nintendo's responsibility to control what is offered on their store. As consumers, we just don't have to buy it.

This is semi true, there are however a few of their re-releases which I think are decent little games. I wonder what their contractual agreement is with the developers though when it comes to re-publishing under multiple bundles.

You've hit the nail on the head as usual. Red Deer do seem to be the worst at this, but as you say Qubic also spew out the shovel wear phone games at a prodigious rate and then sponsor channels to tout their near permanent "sales".

Yep, I have covered a Qubic sale once, not sponsored though. There are multiple who are re-hashing the same titles but RDG are the worst at the moment.

Qubic has exactly one good game, and that’s Akane. Picked that up on sale for 99 cents US and put a solid 80 hours into it

Yeah, it’s a shame that RedDeer is a developer that I only know from articles written about their AAA Clock series and DLC rehashing, which fills their eShop listing over their actual quality titles. It’s too bad because some of the titles looks promising if they weren’t pursuing this exploitative method.

They do have a decent selection of titles, as do Qubic and Baltoro, but instead of focusing of bringing new and exciting indie titles to the platform, they constantly re-hash existing titles in bullshit DLC packages.

I'm very disappointed about that moves. It's sad that Mix Island games are published by them. I loved Mini Island Challange Bundle (from other publisher) but the constant release of "Definitive Editions" with just 2 DLCs it's awful. May not be scam games like other publishers but since that case, I decided to not buy anything from them even for 1€. It has no sense.

Yeah ima signal boost this, its only gotten worse. There are 1135 items that show up when you type red deer games into the eshop. And im still cataloguing how many of those are JUST games versus bundles or free dlc packs they use to fluff the bundles.

Looking into doing something myself for a future video. I checked the e-shop yesterday and had like 9 games from RDG, all re-hashes... its embarrassing at this point.

i actually noticed this a while ago and have actively avoided buying anything from these publishers. it's a shame because many of the games made by the individual developers look interesting, but using a publisher that won't play fair is a big turn-off. i do wish nintendo allows filtering options in the future.

I think if we can get someone with a audience of millions to talk about and keep talking about it until they get Nintendo's attention, Nintendo will be forced to do something about it.

I wish RedDeerGames had taken a similar approach to new listings and DLC the way Zen Studios had with their Pinball series. It’s not perfect, but it’s less convoluted than flooding the EShop with nonsense. Thanks for the video!

Baltoro does this with their Knights & guns game, it's now had 12 different releases where the base game is included. I'm mildly interested in it but they finally released an edition with both the bigger expansion packs plus one armor pack so I think I'll just grab that for one dollar and then hide all the other versions forever. After all, the game has quite okay quality and quite a lot of content, so I can at least spend one dollar to have some fun.

They do it with numerous titles, I did mention them and Qubic in the video but I really wanted to highlight RDG as an example as they're by far the worst culprits.

Yeah, I'm not a fan. I understand why they do it, but it annoys the heck out of me. One example that constantly gets on my nerves is "Moto Rush GT" from Baltoro Games. It's not an amazing game, but it's not horrible either. It's one of those games that has remained on my Switch as something I can play in short bursts when I just want to relax (a "loading game" so to speak). But man... it's *constantly* in the "new releases" section, being advertised as some new pack or another that offers nothing new at all. Every so often I'll click on one just to see if there's new DLC or something, but nope. Same game, different package. Stuff like that makes me not want to support these developers - even if their games are decent. Just release a good game, get the money you can from it, and if you want more, then develop some decent DLC. Otherwise it's just annoying.

I totally understand how this kind of publishing strategy helps them, I just don't agree with it and I'm not willing to support anyone who does it, I think Baltoro are bad for it with certain titles and Qubic Games have also given it a go, but neither to this extent. At least not yet, though Baltoro are pushing it.

This is why there are always at least 1000 games on discount, at this time 2200 games on discount. They release their games with about 90% discount. Nintendo needs to do something as the eShop is not even loading all games on discount.

Nintendo needs to clean out their store, otherwise parents will avoid the digital store and everyone will believe that the switch is nothing but a shovelware platform and that REALLY drags down your reputation as a console maker; hello Atari crash 🤔

Good video. It's certainly an issue, but I don't agree with your first solution. A new strategy I've seen of other publishers is to release bundles, and i think those have a right on the new release page. So the question then becomes how to differentiate between a true bundle vs this behaviour? And I don't think there's an easy answer to it. Maybe any "bundle" that is just game + DLC isn't eligible for the new release page, where as a bundle with 2 games is? But then do we see the same deal, just bundling multiple reddeer games together? I dunno.

I forget what games i got and enjoyed esp for the price....but i did notice going off their name when it came to giving a game a try bit me in the arse a while back.....and after that i dont even bother anymore with them.

I have to admit I like some titles from Reddeer and Qubic but I wasn't aware of this dodgy over publishing. I thought you were mad making this video but after watching I totally agree with your findings. Nintendo need to start monitoring the Eshop. They have a responsibility to protect consumers. Yea they have both produced some decent titles. You know I'm never scared to call people out, I'm a small time RU-vidr so my biggest worry is getting blacklisted from certain publishers but I feel the cost is worth it. Cheers Daz.

Suddenly, some infuriating shit makes sense. Cheers for the lecture 🍻 There should be different sections for genuinely new games, DLCs and bundles. Also, for example, it would be great if the items one already has could be removed from the view; Some stuff never shows up because the lists just stop loading more or the page reloads and starts from the beginning. Many easy tweaks would make one's shopping experiences more pleasant, but no. Exploration seems to be frowned upon. Ugh.

On point & you read my mind. Sadly money has more currency than morals. Gamergate needs to be for consumer and worker rights. Quality > Quanty = Equality. I've been meditating on my consuerism whom I give power to even this platform. Net neutrality was the first big hit now targeted and spamming of ads and shallow content is the next. I think the Nintendo Switch E-shop is a prime example of this, on the one hand you have publishers who are doing everything they can to earn a quick buck and on the other, you have Nintendo themselves who refuse to take any responsibility for their e-shop because a decent chunk of their profits come from 3rd party publishers who are basically propping up the Nintendo Switch's catalogue of games at this point. A sad state of affairs. Thank you dude.

Yeah I get you buddy I keep seeing republishing for certain games and its getting out of hands I wonder why their doing it cuz when they keep saying like its a premium dlc or stuff like that they dont add much to it at all. Their games can generally be really good but it does make you wonder. Why their doing it? Try emailing them again maybe you'll get a different picture its just strange why they keep doing that. The game never changes really at all. Can you also do a review on that shooter bond parody game Ive been playing that and having a blast brilliant! Plays like goldeneye :)

Like I said, I believe its because it gives them constant exposure to their back catalogue, its as simple as that. I have tweeted at them on twitter linking the video so maybe they will respond. Saw that game and heard decent things, I'll see if I find the time but I've got a few videos in the pipeline.

Maybe a bit of bad press will make them reconsider…but in reality they will probably just come after you like the scammers did. Let’s see how they react, and decide if they deserve support in the future or not. Would be a shame if they take the scumbag-route, as I have enjoyed playing plenty of their titles in the past…

I knew that they were releasing a lot of games weekly but looking into it really surprised me, especially that their publishing name switched over in March and they were publishing under both for a while. 56 releases in one month is shocking though.

Nintendo Online still should be free, Eshop is a cesspool of nonsense and needs a refresh but Nintendo is still stuck in the early 2000s. We need them to evolve to the 2010's on the next console (Hopefully) for a better experience

Germany is the country who release the game in store for the E.U. We can't have a zombie game on store but we can be surrounded by crap game... I probably get tricked at least by one or two game, i want my money back, those game aint finished & playable that's a shame for nintendo who back in the days used the "seal if quality" Lol....

Nintendo's eShop already has horrible performance problems, and clogging up the store for visibility makes it even harder to use it. Red Deer's actions are directly hurting the consumer's ability to buy games on the eShop. And if I can't use it, then there are other alternatives. I hope Nintendo are watching and realizing they are enabling this to happen, and it's hurting their own business.
