MY STORY:
In 2016 I had been in law enforcement for 7 years.
I was not in control of my schedule, I was hardly making any money, and I was away from my family working nights and holidays. I was capable of more, and I was silently suffering. I knew I was selling myself and my family short.
I started Florida Turf Pros as a side hustle in 2016 before going full time in 2017.
My lawn business changed my life.
I control my own schedule, control my own income, and I am proud of what I have built; a business that supports me, my family, and some employees.
If you are a lawn care business owner, this channel will be a valuable resource for you.
This really is a great industry to be in, and I hope that by documenting my journey it will help you.

Really great information. I was doing a job today spreading 3 tandem loads of crushcrete. The only attachment I took was my bucket with the Harley rake built into it. I could’ve kicked myself in the butt for not taking my landplane, especially when I have room in the dump trailer for it to ride along. Now I have to go back Wednesday and have the fourth load delivered. They were only supposed to have two loads, but she changed your mind, and ordered two more. Saturday I did a job spreading a tandem load of 57 stone. I used the Harley rake bucket to grind out all the Roots from the shrubs that have been previously taken out. They weren’t that big but there was about 3 yards of material that I ended up having to scoop in into the bucket because I didn’t bring my grapple. Definitely have to think before you load everything up. It could save you a lot of time and money at the end of the job.

Man I absolutely love all your content. I am a new startup been side hustle for two years, was forced out of my job with nothing but my faith and my equipment to provide for my family. I ran across your channel and have been inspired ever since. I hope you don’t mind but I’m following your blueprint as close as possible even down to the postcard marketing. Thanks man just keep doing what you’re doing and I will keep following your channel and soak up as much of your knowledge as you’re willing to share. Thank you and may God continue to bless you, your family, and your business!!

You should think about getting a dump trailer that has roll off containers, you could stage your containers a day in advance. Use them for material delivery, etc. Having 100% of materials for projects secured at least 1-3 in advance is the only way to be sure everything will go according to plan and even then things can go sideways.

Hey Jonathan, can you do a video on how you go about scheduling weekly and biweeklys? Now that I’m getting up there in my customer count it’s starting to be a pain. Thinking of switch to monthly flat rate instead.

it's happened to me before. I have not been able to make good money when emotions (friends/family/church people) are involved. I remember when I first started my business and had no idea what I was doing, I quoted someone $80 to fix an irrigation pipe. It costs me $70 in materials and took me 8 hours. Expensive lesson, but learned how to price things quickly.

We always get our stuff delivered from our suppliers and we actually don’t use a dump trailer we rent a roll off. We are landscapers not delivery or trash drivers. In Kansas City getting rid of anything it needs to be sorted and it’s a literal nightmare. I’d rather pay someone to come get it for us and do all that stuff. It seems like the customer pays more but we would bill out for that time and just increase our mobilization fee. It ends up being a wash and we get rid of a lot of logistics.

Doing favors is almost always a losing business decision. At least if one bids based on favors. Remember, one can always give a discount when the project is done.

I can't give discount pricing on anything. I'm already competitive in pricing and my quality is higher than most. If I do work for someone I know it'll be good for both parties. I'll get paid and they can be sure they'll have the best results.

If you top dress everything before sod it may be time to look at an eco spreader. Better job, faster. I have the eco 50, pull it with my Ferris stander
