But the 2RS and the 918 wasn’t bought to get on the ‘special’ list. Yet you got on the ‘special’ list, and YOU played the game, by selling the 3RS for £100k over…… its a shame, as other people would love the opportunity to spec, and buy new, and enjoy?
The whole reason they pull this shit is because they are countermeasures to help screen out more people due to insane demand. Simple as that. It won’t end until the demand goes down.
A friend of mine and a 918 owner. Spent a small fortune on various cars inc a Macan, Cayenne, a 991.2Turbo S Cab and he also lent our local dealer his 918 as a showroom display car for over a year to get an Allocation for a GT2RS. Guess what they sold his allocation to another customer who spent more money on aload of stuff that he didnt want. Needless to say he hasn't dealt with them since and never will in the future...He is of the same mind of just paying overs and getting a GT product as a low mileage nearly new car...
It’s a ridiculous game they encourage you to play to get the allocation spots. What a kind gent allowing them to use the car for the allocation! It’s a shame, but at least he got out and doesn’t have to deal with them anymore who obviously didn’t appreciate him!! It just makes more sense now to pay the overs on the GT cars without having to buy 2-3 Taycans to lose the same, if not more money as it would be buying the cars over! Thanks for that insight, it’s a shame to see it happening so often 😢
Good point and a good decision.. Sticking the V up to Porsche uk and it's terrible under handed policy... Mark Mccan discovered the exact same thing....
I think it was a wise decision, at the end of the day you’re clearly a successful person and decisions like this are why - it’s a calculated decision! I was looking forward to the GT3RS content but to be honest it seems every other car RU-vid has one anyway 😂 my question is what cars coming next with that sweet profit you’ve made 👀? Would like to see you review the new Range Rover SV to hear your thoughts 👍🏼
Thanks George, I really appreciate that. Don’t worry, we’ll have GT3 content coming in the future, as I say it’s not off the cards and it would be nice to add one back into the collection at some point in the future. I’m being “sensible” for a little while… we’ll see how long that lasts. As for comments on the RR SV situation, I’m sure it wouldn’t be a very family friendly reply for RU-vid 🤣👏🏼
@@wam_barn I think it’s definitely a time to be sensible - car prices I believe have reached there peak and will probably be on a downturn from here on out.. also have to consider cash in the bank at the moment is doing well with the interest rates on offer. So probably best to sit tight and reap the awards in a year or so 😎
Glad you sold it mate , nice car but pretty overrated and is definitely gonna be going less than retail in a couple months .Love your videos , cheers mate
100% right decision. Not a problem I will ever have but the way they keep customers buying stuff they dont want or need is ridiculous. Plenty of other amazing cars in the collection, drive them and wait a few months then use the profit to get another if you feel the need.
I've had a few Porsche's and currently have a 2nd hand GT car, I want a new one but again because of my buying history (not using the same OPC) I'm never going to get an allocation seemingly, that's certainly the message after contacting most UK dealers recently. It seems the only way is to pay overs, but I can have the car now and not have to buy 6-7-8 cars and lose more than the overs to get an allocation (which may not turn into a build slot). It's extremely frustrating for me as the Porsche's I've owned have all come through the OPC network and not specialists.
It’s such a shame, even with you owning a GT Porsche you’re unable to be on the list. Not sure how they’ll get out of this situation, maybe in too deep? Sometimes it seems better to pay the overs on the cars without having to purchase all the different extras. Yeah, that must be very infuriating for you, especially going through OPC’s 😖
100% right decision to sell! It is little bit the same here in Sweden with ”special” Porsches like GT3 RS or GT4 RS. You need to have bought at least one brand new Porsche before too have a chance of an alication. My dream car is a Porsche, any Porsche, it doesnt matter! 😂 Keep up the good work👍
I’d do exactly the same! Porsche are covering their losses on failed models like the Taycan, they won’t take the hit, when they can pass it to loyal customers.. it’s a bit Ferrarish, and let’s be honest, they’re not Ferrari
I’m glad you agree. Being made to buy two Taycans for an RS Spyder allocation just proves the point. Yeah it seems some Porsche dealerships have taken on the Ferrari model of the special lists 🤔
Hey there. I´m from Germany and up until the 991.2 GT3RS you could go in there and buy one without a history. The only car you couldn´t was a GT2RS 991. Now with the 992 gen. it´s the same like in the UK, sadly. Have a great day🙂
Hey! Oh really, that’s very interesting to know. It seems that other people who have commented on this topic have said it started around a similar time. It’s a shame it’s taken this turn and gone down that route since the 991.2 🥲 You too!
@@wam_barn Yeah i asked a Porsche dealership here, actually multiple ones and all said you need a history with Porsche to even get a GT3. Well, since 911s are spec-wise very similar and don´t have too much variety like a Ferrari or Lamborghini it´s really the best to buy them used like you do. Thank you🙂
They are trying to play the Rolex game. The inflated price bubble will burst like watches. Then it’ll all be back at list. Good on you for not playing the game
Completely agree. Have heard they don't 'allow'/ want you to sell privately (as you have) but you can sell it back to the dealership who then bank the overs when they sell it- the hypocisy! Crazy and it's your money. Great decision.
Yeah this would’ve had to have gone back for the price I’d bought it for, this or the 918 if I wanted the 2RS. I just didn’t find it fair anymore, and was willing to take the risk with this 3RS. Thank you 🙏🏻
It’s worse in the US as far as I can tell. We have ADMs (Adjusted Dealer Markups), plus the watch, plus Euro delivery (which gives the dealership a TurboS or GT3RS allocation), PPF, etc etc… and that’s IF you’re the best customer over the years. That’s how most dealers treat their BEST customers lol. I only know from my journey to get an S/T, but the average (over 110 dealerships I called) was $300K over sticker 😮
Oh really!? I’ve seen a couple stories from the US but that’s insane. Over 300k is ridiculous, I’d only seen the example petfred posted on Instagram about his 992 experience, that was unbelievable. Good luck with the S/T search and hopefully you’re not paying ridiculous overs! 🙏🏻
@@wam_barn thanks! I was able to find just one dealer out of 110 that cared more about the fact that I was an enthusiast and would drive the S/T than getting the absolute most $$ for it. I’ve only bought one Porsche, so I had no dealer relationships and I don’t have unlimited mean$, but the S/T is my absolute dream car, so I’m beyond excited 😆
Brilliant perspective guys. One shouldn't have to jump through hoops to buy any car. Also, If you don't want the watch I'll have it when I bring 'Big Blue' back!😂 MikeGts....
Yeah, options are heavily pushed. But saying that, you wouldn’t want basic options on your GT car I suppose. Although it does solely depend on your budget at the end of that day and if you’re in a position to. You never want to be pushed though!
Genius from the team at the Pork Sausage factory in Stuttgart, they masterminded a game that silly people were desperate to play along. I think it was brilliant, a true masterpiece in sales mind Jedi. Folk fought like cats and dogs to get in on 'The list' They had to have one! So they could show it off to the other silly people at a Supercarsausage event. Then after all that pain they'd mostly specify it in GT silver as not to effect resale when they flipped to buy the next top sausage from the factory. 😂
Top man. Well done on getting out of the Porsche game. And well done on ot playing the RU-vid game: I appreciate the brutal honesty of channels like this. I love Porsches, too. My sons favourite car is a 918 and his favourite colour is orange! ❤
Thank you for your positive feedback! Was on the fence about releasing it but I found a lot of people had absolutely no idea that this was going on. So it’s nice to finally be able to show to others. I think when we both started this channel we wanted it to be as open and as honest as possible and not be bias towards anything! Well you’ve certainly done well in finding two of his favourite things, hopefully you’re able to come along to an event and see the car for yourselves at some point 🙏🏻😊
It was always in the back of my mind, but even when I’d taken delivery I didn’t want it to go but it just felt like the right decision at the time. They’re an incredible car and I’d love to add one into the collection again in the future, I just didn’t love it at this moment in time haha 🙏🏻
Totally respect your decision. I’ve bought a Boxster GTS 4.0 and a 992 T, and my sales rep told me I still have no chance of getting a GT3. If I trade in a car for a significant loss and buy an EV I may have a chance. But now with GT3’s selling only slightly more than MSRP in Canada, I’d rather buy used. I don’t want to play this game anymore.
Thank you! It’s crazy isn’t it, even the GT3’s were difficult to get a hold of, but now if you see the prices they’ve dropped (here in the UK too) close to around MSRP… Makes sense buying used for sure. Unless you wanted to play the game and get your own spec, but aside from that it’s not worth it 😢
@brianhimmelman420 Also, according to RU-vid. That Yellowstone National Park is about to blow, so it doesn't matter what's the price is gonna be in a year. Lmao. I'm not scared. You are.
I'm experiencing the same thing, but on the other side of the pond. After waiting 12 months, the dealer "granted" me a 718 allocation, but would only do so if I bought their $5000USD nonsense add-ons (PPF, GPS tracking security, etc.). It's basically an ADM in disguise as PNA (Porsche North America) allegedly frowns heavily upon dealer markups above MSRP. This will be my 4th Porsche but, like you, the last one I buy from a dealer.
Oh really, it seems that more and more people from across the world are having similar issues. It’s crazy to hear it’s not just the UK! Crazy you’re on your 4th Porsche but still being made to purchase silly add-ons. It’s a shame really it’s going that way😕
Man im absolutely loving your guys channel. Super interesting content. To my understanding this isn't a big issue here in Australia, not yet at least. I do think it's egregious though and i don't disagree with your decision at all
Thank you! We really appreciate that, very kind of you to say 🙏🏻 Oh really, I’ve only seen one person say they’ve experienced similar in Australia, so hopefully it’s not all over. I’m glad you support the decision 😊🙏🏻
@@wam_barn My pleasure, feels like these are the video embodiment of hanging out with your mates haha. Oh interesting, maybe it's a bigger issue over east.
The more publicity about Porsche dealers screwing people over the sooner the madness ends, good on you for publicizing the games these dealerships are playing.
Smart move by selling it while it’s high price and buy it when precise settles down. The only drawback is when you buy it new you can spec it uniquely with options you like, maybe have PTS color etc. It will be hard to found same spec again. I personally like car even more when it’s build the way I want. But $100 grand is 100 grand lol
It made complete sense in my opinion. Yeah that sure, although for me it was always going to be launch spec as it was a brilliant spec, and I think a lot of people agreed as I’d seen a lot of launch spec’s coming out (I know it wasn’t the exact launch spec colour but it’s a similar scheme haha). Yeah, speccing myself is always fun and you can customise to your own liking, but then again people won’t be speccing these cars bad in any way I suppose… so that’s a plus haha!
Tom, great to see that you've 'broken the chain' of the Porsche dealerships in the UK squeezing money out of their customers. They are really screwing their best customers here. Watches and the huge amount of previous 'spend' just to perhaps get an allocation ! I cannot believe more customers don't just tell them - no more !! A sensible business decision too. Of course it makes sense to sell it now and YOU get some gain from it.
Yeh, I’m never going to be pushed around by dealers saying ‘you have to buy this, you have to buy that’ I will buy what I want, when I want it 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤣🤣
Love your 918 color...is that Lava Orange or Gulf Orange? Or? Stateside, in my region, you get on lists for potential allocation in the future. This is for regular 992 and 718 models. GT cars are considered unobtainium-by me,anyway. Then, if SA calls, you can get one with a graduated ADM amount; depending on base, S, or GTS. Also European delivery can be offered up by dealer. Dealer gets an extra allocation when an existing customer selects Euro delivery. People outside of Porsche world cannot conceive of the hoops we jump through to get our cars. Hoops exist at every level of Porsche sports cars, not just GT product levels.
Thank you. It’s actually just a gloss orange wrap haha! It’s insane to hear about the huge markup on the delivery too😭 It just seems impossible for people to obtain these Porsches without spending millions unfortunately! It’s a shame even though I’ve been buying Porsches I doubt I’m on their list anymore after selling this one😬
Love the insight and yes I was aware of these practices and 100% agree with your choice to do this. The 3RS will br at sticker in a year or so and its a good car but not great enough to risk the 100k when you already have several great P cars to enjoy in the meantime. I think you have made a very logical decision taking emotion out of the equation. Having said that I think you should try a Ferrari F355 manual. That car with a proper full system is very very special and if taken care of are really good cars that make awesome street cars. Love the vids guys!
Thank you! I think it was a good time to sell with the current market, and I’d love to add one back when the time is right for me. I think I’m going to take a break from Ferrari for a short while haha! Thanks for the kind comment we really appreciate it😊🙏🏻
Good call, you're only making back a fraction of the money you have lost unnecessarily to them through their game. This is why it looks like Porsche as a company, along with other manufacturers, are taking back control of sales directly, by moving online and changing the Dealership model.
I dont know why on earth people play the game. Just let other people blow hundreds of thousands of pounds/dollars/euros on possibly getting their allocation and buy it slightly used a year after first deliveries start. As Mark McCann found out, you potentially lose more on depreciation on the crap you didnt want but had to buy than the profit you can make flipping the GT. Great cars but just not worth bending over backwards for. It's the dealer that should be doing that for you. I dread to think how big a fleet of cars people are expected to have bought to get an S?T allocation. Whatever it is, it wasnt worth it, no matter how good the car is.
Yeah agreed, I’ve never bought into it by purchasing unnecessary cars to get an allocation, it was always buying the RS’ (what I actually wanted). Yeah I’ve heard a few stories about the S/T… not been great for people 😬😬
The US is about the same. You either pay the dealer several K over to get the allocation or have to have a history or car they want to screw you on trade. Even then you may not get it at MSRP. They have been more creative trying to get people to lease all the Taycans sitting due to the EV mandates. If you take 1 or more high end spec Taycan you might get a allocation. But Taycans lose half their value as soon as you lose the dealer.
Oh really, paying over even with an allocation is insane!! Yeah Taycans just seem to be a way to lose money, it’s like buying a loss😕 That’s crazy to see it’s worse in the US!
Didnt have that problem when buying a McLaren. Sure its a younger company trying to attract rich people to buy its cars, but then compare a 720S with most Porsches and MCL wipes the floor with them (yes at a higher base cost - check out second hand ones which are so cheap compared to an incredible car you get with F1 tech!) my 2 cents - good on ya for selling the GT3 RS and pocketing some change
It’s not been the same with Lamborghini, the Revuelto was offered without having to buy any “entry” versions so it may just be Porsche going down the Ferrari route. It can go towards another car haha!
I get that Porsche need to prioritise special and loyal customers, but it shouldn’t be as strict as the way it is and has been going. That’s for sure! 👏🏼
@@wam_barn you could also argue that people like yourself that have brought a lot of cars if anything should get preferential treatment not be told that they have to buy models they don’t want and it’s wrong that if I won the lottery tomorrow I couldn’t go and order the car of my dreams don’t know where Porsche and Ferrari get off thinking they can treat people like this rant over. 😂
They’re an amazing brand for their incredible cars, so don’t be out off by the cars on the basis of some dealerships! My favourite brand is Porsche, it’s just a shame that it’s gone this route 😢
@@wam_barn ive heard that For New GT3RS you would have to sign a contract saying that you wont be able to sell it for a year after purchase because people just buy them and resell them immediately for profit. I think this is only in the US
Totally agree with your reasoning I think it leaves a bad taste, and total con really! If I could I wouldn’t out of principle really! I think it’s only the last 6 -7 years, they sometimes struggled to sell early gt3s in period jayem and mark mcann has stuff about this on there channels, they wanted him to buy 3 tycans which would lose 70k a pop driving them out the showroom! The sales staff are normally really Lovley car guys but as you say it’s dealer policy normally Need to be brought in line Funnily enough Ferrari seem a little bit more open and honest about it! Not that much though
Thank you for agreeing! Yeah it seems like it started just before the lockdowns… a lot have said similar that they noticed it since then. Yeah we’ve always been treated well by the sales staff, but it seems higher up policies for sure! Yeah true haha🤣🤣
Would of been nice if you to sell it someone who’s been on that list for a long time, but sell it them for retail price the same as you bought it for, people should stop buying them then the silly game will soon come to an end, it’s only caused by people that allow themselves to be ripped off by Porsche.
Belief me this Not only an UK big shit of Porsche behavior, this happens also in Germany day by day. Because of that and I ha e seen this already for 10 years thats Why I havent bought and Porsche anymore….Porsche is realy sucks…
So, you're complaining that you have to sell them the car back, the one you bought from them a year ago, for the same price you originally paid? Rich peoples problems...
When you’re losing out on 200k in the case of the 918, it doesn’t make any sense to sell the car back for such a huge loss for an allocation. I don’t think anyone would want to lose out on that much money regardless.
Definitely a sensible decision, seems like the over all company policy isnt well thought out.. why would any reasonable business person not take the opportunity to make money?🤷♂️
Yeah, it seems these decisions come from much higher up with these new “Ferrari” style policies. Very strange, and exactly… you’d never jeopardise the opportunity! 🤔
I thought the limitation of special editions to each dealership was because of limited supply i.e 2 per dealership. So how can France for e.g not have any policy? If 17 people want one they cant give them 17?
Dealers have allocations and can give to specific clients but they prioritise. As for other countries, mainly Europe, it’s dependant on the dealerships allocation. Not necessarily say 17 people want the car and all 17 will get them. It’s more like if you go in at the right time and they have an allocation and you’re able to secure it, rather than being on a special list.
People were willing to play the game post-COVID when everything in the game was moving above retail. This is why Taycans are now worth less than a discovery.
Love Porsches but hate the buying experience. Bought mine through an independent dealer. These dealers with these unethical practices may be reaping the benefits now but karma has a way of coming back to bite.
The US and UK dealers will learn the hard way if more people take your tack as well. Unfortunately all the time people play their game, they will continue taking advantage......
@wam_barn I'm in the UK but know that dealers in the US are ruthless if it means they can line their pockets.........Even cars that are mass produced if there is short supply, they won't hesitate, some pay way over book, madness!
