Sorry if the volume is a little low, the audio is the livestream audio and hasn't been mastered.

I'm still unsure whether to keep the Osmose or sell it. I've barely used it in the few months I've had it. It's without doubt an amazingly expressive and unique controller, but one I've struggled to find a permanent home for in my studio, as it certainly doesn't replace my S88 as my main controller, and I have no room left to accommodate another keyboard. I still haven't used/programmed any of my own sounds in the EaganMatrix due to it being so unfriendly, unintuitive and complicated, but I might give that a go soon if I can spare several hours to figuring it out. At the moment I'm leaning toward selling it and picking up a Push 3 instead for the MPE capability which I do have room for.

I imagine they'll replace the whole Haken Editor thing at some point. Your description ("so unfriendly, unintuitive and complicated") is spot on although I'd also add "potentially dangerous" -- the sound design process makes inadvertent feedback loops way too easy to create and there's no automatic protection to prevent them from blowing speakers/eardrums. The thing the guys behind Haken Audio have failed to appreciate is that being great at designing hardware that can do what the EaganMatrix can do (which is wonderful!) does not also make you great at UI/UX design. Given how popular the Osmose is, though, I think Expressive E will be able to afford to have a professional UI/UX designer replace the Haken Editor (assuming their agreement with Haken Audio doesn't contractually require them to continue using their editor). I empathize with you in regards to your "keep or sell it" dilemma. For myself, having this "amazingly expressive and unique controller," and the possibility that a better editor will arrive within a year or so, makes it worth keeping. But given that there is a 4-5 month wait time for new Osmose orders right now ..., you should have no problem selling yours at a nice profit, I'd think.

Yeah, in the same boat here. while it is amazing to play, i found the presets get repetitive and learning to program my own in EaganMatrix is just not an endeavor that seems fun or fruitful. also, the absence of the polyphonic pitchbend and arpeggiator MPE using third party VSTs, while possibly coming in the future, is a miss. i do need to test more with the full Equator 2 rather than just the Roli Studio Player as the old fxpansion plugins Cypher and Strobe were my fav MPE VSTs and i think tweaking the mappings a bit will be fruitful. I agree with Paul though, for the preorder price, its likely worth it to sit on it for a while, rather than kicking yourself in the future when they most likely beef up the ecosystem and you then want to repurchase one.

@@PaulPomeroy I think the Expressive team could just build upon their built in simplified top later editor that you access on the Osmose itself for each sound. It's very easy to use and works more like a bunch of parameter/macro controls and could perhaps be expanded, or turned into a full standalone editor that's still tied to the EaganMatrix but hopefully with even more control. Right now it's one extreme or the other, and nothing between them. By the way, I didn't realise it had no protection for out of control feedback loops, that's too bad. I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to create a simple limiter into the editor to fix that problem.

@@PolarityMusic For someone that likes/prefers keys I think it's awesome. I still love how even with a plucky kind of sound, you can turn it into a pad by very, very gently pushing down. If you haven't tried/tested it's poly-pressure feature make sure you try it first :) But yeah, definitely not a controller for everyone.

Hmm. I usually instantly hate anything that is so hyped up it's unavailable for years to come 😁 but everything I heard here was simply amazing, immersive, and sounded better than basic after touch. I'm chalking that up to it just being "you" tho 🤩 You definitely have a gift for beautiful creations. EaganMatrix aside, do you think this controller adds an expressiveness you would not get otherwise? Sounds wonderful, man. Thank you.

I had the same dilemma a few months ago: not enough patience to dive into the Eagan matrix (Tried a few times but nearly exploded my speakers due to unexpected feedback loops 😬). Another problem was the fact that I have already several controllers, including a Roli, and space limitations in my small studio…. and I didn’t want to store it without using it regularly! I finally decided to sell it , which took less than 24 hours… It nearly paid my Iridium (very happy about this instrument!). Maybe I buy it again in a few years if they move to a different sound engine, who knows…

I have a Seaboard 2 with Equator and was wondering about adding an Osmose. What are your thoughts. Enjoy your work.
@thelanavishnuorchestra
@thelanavishnuorchestra Год назад
If I had the money for an Osmose, I'd definitely go for it. That 'amazingly expressive' nature is very alluring. But I understand that it's going to be tied to a specific style of playing and not your standard controller. And an unfriendly and confusing UI would be a drag. I remember having an SY77 in the 80s and between constant menu-diving and struggling to get a sound I intended to make instead of trial and erroring my way to something I liked was frustrating.
@stateazure
@stateazure Год назад
The actual UI/interface on the Osmose itself (which does allow some preset/parameter tweaking), is very friendly and easy to use though, just be clear. It's only the much deep, complex full sound engine editor that I was referring to. It is really, really nice to play though. Now if Osmose or other sound designers were readily sharing/selling new soundpacks etc, that would be great, but there's almost nothing out there even several months after release. There's at least lots of options if you're just using it for controlling external MPE compatible hardware/software.
@starsky101
@starsky101 Год назад
Lots of hype around the Osmose and it does appear to be very expressive but I fear like 3D tv, without support and content it will fade away. Your music is expressive enough, move it on while it’s still worth doing

btw, do you also have a roli seaboard? if so, which one do you prefer between Osmose and Roli? I bought a Rise 2, its still on its way to me, but now some people tell me its shit and that I should've bought an osmose or Lynnstrument instead, idk what to think anymore lol.
@stateazure
@stateazure Год назад
I had the older Seaboard Rise 49, sent it back after 1 day because I didn't like it. I just dislike the format/feel of the thing, and would much rather use actual keys, so the Osmose was better for me but I think ultimately the Push 3 will probably be the best alternative. I know others really like the Seaboard stuff though so it's worth trying!
@MrQuacker_
@MrQuacker_ Год назад
@@stateazure I see, thank you for your input. :) I bought it specifically because actual keys seems limiting to me (as I can see in your video its not as limiting as I thought, but still a little, I wouldn't know how to explain lol) I guess I'll see when I get it. Thank you again and keep up the good work, I love your music! ^^
