Another good overview. I've been seriously tempted to pick one of these up, but in all honesty, I've been seriously tempted to pick up about a hundred different guns over the last couple years. 😆
when i move to a more 2A friendly state, hopefully in the near future, I plan on trying to get one of these. can't have this in Mass cause 10rd mags can't fit in the magwell
I am picking up my Gen 2 Extar Wednesday! I have 2 Gen 1s. Thousands of rounds ZERO malfunctions. BEST VALUE IN THE GUN INDUSTRY PERIOD! Just to wind people up, let me say it is better than a semi auto MP5 suppressed. Lighter, better trigger, Glock mags, AR grips, LRBHO, totally closed rear side charger so no face full of gas. $449.00. Optic to run? Primary arms w/Vulcan reticle. Please just take the opportunity to have fun with it. It is a hoot.
I'm pushing 70 i talked daughter into getting one she has issues with reg pistol i was going to put Magpul mbus 3 flip ups on it and primary arms prizm I've never put these on any carbine i have they don't slide on the rail seen them slide on for AR but not with this
@@Rumpleskin . I have never lubed mine in the 3 1/2-4 years I’ve owned it. The manual tells you not to. I will wipe down polymer with dry cloth after shooting and use CPL on feed ramp/barrel then wipe excess. . It’s been 100% reliable and holding up remarkably well
The thing that prevented me from getting one of these previously were the number of upgrades I'd have to make, which made the cost equivalent to other offerings. Now I have to get one! Looking forward to the shooting vid. I've heard these are softer shooting than other blowback large-format pistols.
Nice review. Thanks. Yes. Polymers have replaced metal parts in so many applications. I have a client that produces polymer worm wheels for automotive steering systems. That’s a safety-critical application. No compromises on long-term performance.
Just took mine to the range last week for the first time. Man is it a fun shooter. Recoil has a good initial jolt but is soft on the sholder, which is awesome considering how the Gen 2 brace is very thin. My wife and I had a blast with it and it ran Tula steel, and winchester brass fmj and hollow points perfectly. Remember: extar doesn't recommend reloads, aluminum cased, or +p ammo. Also careful of Norma because they are using thinner primers and they are prone to blow out on this guy. So a bit ammo sensitive but all in all, I'd say it's a great deal for this one. Looking forward to the range review!
I was an adequately good boy this year so Santa brought me one of these. Put 200 rounds through it today without a problem. Really liking it so far. What a joy to shoot.
Great review that almost looked familiar classic firearms actually partnered with a gun manufacturer producing a carbine similar to this. For those who are still going to the gun shop to purchase a firearm buying them online is the way to go, I found a woman with a FFL that lived close to me I would go to her house she would call to the background check I would sit at her computer desk fill out the paperwork in and out and I've saved Jesus thousands throughout the years. Stay and shoot Safe people.
I have had the gen 1 for a couple years. around 400 rounds through it and 1 malfunction. no recoil and I have squirrel hunted with it. it's very accurate
That's my use case. Can't see any farther than that around here. Considering heavy nines through a can for wild pests via this setup but the serious boys keep suggesting rifle rounds to me.
I like the steel re-enforcement in that reciever. I am slightly worried about the full mag plus 1 as the manual says NOT to load a fully loaded mag into it with a closed bolt. Optic wise I would say either good irons or an affordable red dot like SIG or Swampfox. Looking forward to the range review. Big fan of this firearm and looking forward to see how it runs.
After my 2nd lumbar fusion I bought the gen 1 because it was very lightweight. The gen 2 has alot of changes less Polymer. Had 1 malfunction first round , stovepipe after that ran great . Have around 800ish rounds through it
I couldn't decide between buying this and the new Hellcat Pro. I ended up going with the Hellcat and it's great...but now I'm probably going to order one of these too. Funny how that keeps happening... :-)
First time shooting mine. It’s a great gun and a lot of fun to shoot! Same length as my Diamondback DB 15 - 7” 5.56. Much lighter and a lot cheaper ammo!
I own the gen1 version, it's ok but being a left handed shooter the first thing I did was put an ambidextrous safety on it. The original brace did a lot of moving around but have resolved this issue. Like the version 2 handguard better maybe that's something that might be interchangeable.
I think that if someone is going for a budget build on something like the Extar, then they'll likely use a budget optic too along with a budget light - if they're so inclined. A Burris, a Swampfox, a Riton, or a low cost Holosun might be appropriate?
I dropped the Cyelee T10 on mine. $70 on Amazon, including shake awake feature. Only a few hundred rounds so far, but I can put rounds through the same hole repeatedly, and zero hasn’t budged at all.
I would have bought an EP9 years ago had I known they had any aftermarket support. Your weapon may have given me what I need to purchase my own. Just bought a SAR 109t so it'll be a min
@@GBGuns Not so much as a "Need" more so a want. That handguard sealed the deal. Was unsure about aftermarket triggers in a polymer chassis, and I wanted a regular buffer tube w/sba3 or sba4. So you're video answered everything
I have the Gen 1 and was so hoping that the gen 2 would either come with or have the ability to add a folding adapter. I love the new muzzle device, fore-end and metal trigger group. I don't like the new brace.
I just took mine to the range yesterday, only 25 yards at an indoor range but made a ragged hole with 115gr fmj. Only negative is the brace I am going to find some padding to put on it as it is uncomfortable to the cheek. I have a Red dot on mine.
1. Muzzle (flash can) what is the OD ? 2. Muzzle (flash can) over all length? Also is it really just a flash can to help displace gas forward and minimize recoil? Is the opening actually large. I am interested in adding a muzzle something that has the same outside diameter to keep the same look of the gun yet stretch the barrel out another 4 inches or so, for better further out accuracy.
Adding a flash can will not change accuracy or your ability to hit at distance. All a flash can does it help direct sound forward, control muzzle flash to some extent, and provide some visual appeal.
I love my Gen 1. I like the changes they made but I do wish they would have made a standard buffer tube assembly to make it easier to change braces without buying an adapter from Farrowtech.
@@hailtothe_rooster1572 the Extar tube is proprietary. It is not meant to be changed and it attaches in a completely unique manner. Farrowtech makes an adapter plate for $85 that allows you to use a mil spec tube and whatever brace you want. I have an SBA3 on mine.
@@geraldochi7945 reduces it closed AND open. It’s much shorter closed and If you have the stock brace fully extended the sba3 may be a bit shorter fully extended but I’m not 100% sure. I didn’t take actual measurements but that’s my general feeling on it.
Had my Gen-1 a couple years with close to 1000 rounds with no problems at all. It’s a great weapon. But now seeing that all metal trigger group I think I’m going to break down and buy the package. I still think the new brace is ugly as hell lol.
I'm about to order one for myself, but my state doesn't allow a purchase of multiple magazines. Still, Extar is charging the same for the gun with just one magazine and selling the rest separately.
HO can you please tell me if the Arm Brace can be extended? I have long arms and I truly rather the gun be as close to 30” as anyway possible. Stock brace pulled back in anyway or even an extension of some sort. Thank you You seemed to know the gun the best. Gen2
Great tabletop review. I would put a Sig MSR or something like that on it. I see then for $76 now. Budget gun should have a budget dot. I webt to the Extar website after watching you run the different mags though it and got a great package deal with g#n, soft case, sling 5 mags etc. I watch HO alot but actually enjoy your reviews better. Come on people it the subscribe tab.
It's not a rough action so much as it is the difference between polymer on polymer and steel on steel. If you sand it you'll open up the surfaces to ingest fouling, then need lube which of course traps fouling and in the end have a very dirty gun.
I'm surprised they have not banned these braces we all know they are basically a stock in many cases retractable with nothing other than a velcro strap that can be removed but I would keep it on there. I've been eyeballing a retractable stock for my MP5 pistol variant PK what not my God they want like over $300 lol I'll buy a Franklin armory trigger for my M4 versus spending that on a collapsible brace.
My Gen 1 has a polymer buffer tube. It does not use a castle nut. I have seen another reviewer switch his Gen1 to a SB3 brace so he had to change the buffer tube.
Just picked up a EP9. Unfortunately doesn't come with a brace anymore and doesn't have the locating tab on back of buffer tube for the brace the sell on the accessory page. Hope to test fire it this weekend
Like any firearm you'll need to remove carbon eventually, but the Extar does not require lubrication. Simply wipe the bolt down, maybe scrape off carbon build up when it happens.
Yes or shop rag. I haven't needed to clean mine yet, but as a rule I usually don't clean until performance degrades, that way I know how long/far a gun can go without cleaning.
I just can't get past the plastic receiver. That ruined it for me, even with the reason why. Felt like a toy. I went with the FM9 by Foxtrot Mike for another 100 bones. Uses aluminum receivers Last round bolt hold open 5", 7", 9", and 16" options Side charging or rear charging options Glock mags as well
I've been interested since the gen one but there's not enough reviews out there for the longevity of the EP9. FYI I got unsubscribed. Warn the people! Any word from Walther about a PDP with paddle mag release?
@@GBGuns Hadn't seen anything from you in a while, went to check your channel and there was 5 videos I never saw notified. Then I noticed I was unsubscribed. That's just mean man! Thank you for all yall do.
I personally dont think EXTAR doesn't get the Credit they deserve. I myself love the ETAR EP9 I just wish I wasn't "a poor" and obviously a pathetic useless loser that could afford the low valued price of the Extar. which outside of HiPoint is the cheapest priced PCC on the market especially with the features you get with the EP9
@@GBGuns I've seen conflicting info on this. Some are made in China, some are rebranded Vortex, some are made in the Philippines, and some are assembled and/ or made in the USA (military contracts). Either way, I've had good experiences with Sig so far.
It's kind of like the AR barrel coating arguments. People want to debate which lasts longer so they can decide if they're going ot spend 40-50 dollars more. If you can afford to wear out an AR barrel you can afford to replace it!
