Extended interview: Joni Mitchell and Brandi Carlile at Newport Folk Festival 

Joni is looking radiant and happy. That last line she pulled out of her hat on Big Yellow Taxi makes me cheer every single time I hear it, which is many. I can never get enough of Joni Mitchell. I love that they are posting entire albums on her channel. Gives me an excuse to start my day singing an entire JM album. She makes my heart SING!

I appreciate the way her life has displayed BOTH the beauty of youth and the beauty of aging. Hearing her sing just makes me happy. Plus, her affection for Brandi and other young musicians makes her even more amazing. Thank you Joni!

Two beautiful women beautiful souls what we need is a little bit more peace and humanity and a little bit less hate but when I watch the videos of her singing and the young women around her and the encouragement she got from Brandi it just made me think of a grandmother and all the respect these young women had for her it was so cool it just shows you how much influence she had on them and as you get older which I am and you see the artist that you grew up with get old too it's kind of cool cuz you're all on the same boat you're going through this together God bless her and I'm glad she decided to come out and do what she did it was beautiful especially summertime she nailed it I've heard so many versions of that song from The Originals all the way up and it was soulful. Yeah talking about getting old my mind went blank and I know this person I wanted to say her name but I couldn't think but it popped up as soon as I got done Billy Holiday I was thinking of her when she was singing summertime.

When I was a little girl having a grand old time that I'd wish would never end, I'd plead with my mother, "One more time. Just five more minutes, Mom." That's what this feels like. The music gods (with an assist from Brandi) have granted us one more encore with Joni.

Joni my music role model for decades...Do you remember a young hippie girl freak living in Crete...You playing in the "big cave". a ,memory that is ethched in my heart forever....thank you for helping me get through life....

Too cute moment when Joni said ; "I thought I was going to be horrible but I wasn't too horrible tonight" and turning her head away...genius but humble at the same time ...and then Brandi turning her head and saying; Oh, Joni, you were beautiful, perfect... I bet they had many similar talks....

I'm surprised she's going back and singing all these again bc she always said she didn't like to listen to her music unless she had too. but u think our outlook changes when we have life changing things happen also so glad she did change her mind cause I loved this..m

I listen now to her work on my iPhone. I guess I'm 3 or so years older than she is. The last and only time I went to Newport was in 1965, so I never saw her there. Saw lots of other things, but not her. My former husband said, when I got the album (a 33) for "Blue," what'dya get that for?" I said I liked it, but I think I might have played it once. My husband was a difficult man to live with and he said he didn't like high voices, which of course is what I have. I can still hit the high notes that Joni hits on all her albums because I stopped smoking many years ago. So nowadays, the husband is divorced and dead, and I live in Chicago where I drown out the sounds of traffic with my ear buds and Joni Mitchell. Sometimes at a bus stop I sing along while I wait for a bus. It's a total pleasure. I'm glad to see she's recovering from her stroke. I'm one of her many fans.

Joni is a living legend, younger generations really need to discover her music. Start with Blue for the earlier years or Hejira for one of the high points from the 70's.

Joni’s shows us the world can be beautiful.

One of my all-time voice's,Joni Mitchell.From a one-time kid born in Cobourg.My first nine years were spent skipping rocks,listening to the gentle lapping of the waves.On a weekend morning,the distant found of the song of a loon,to the gentle moan of the fog horn.In the fall a V of geese flying away for distant shore.Oh Canada!

I hope Joni picks up on piano again and gives it that voice that only she can do.
