@Jude Fitzgerald I saw in another video, where he had like 2 hives, one on top of the other, separated by a fine mesh. The bottom hive is for the Queen and the other bees (sterile females and fertile males to mate with the queen) to lay eggs and reproduce. The top hive was where the worker bees made the honey that actually gets collected. The mesh barrier is to stop the Queen from going and laying eggs in the cells of the top box.

AWESOME!!! I'm a new bee keeper, so is my dad, but he is a truck driver and he has been haling bees for years. We thought we needed those $90 buckets and filters, and that $250 decaping knife with the $350 spinning drum lol, thank you! This will save me much more money and time!!!!! I just wished I saw your videos before we bought that stuff.

Love your video's - a small tip from the UK - wave a paint stripper gun (Heat gun) gently over the surface of the comb and watch the cells pop, then place the frames in a new basting tin. Mine stand up on their own on the internal wire frame. Leave overnight and enjoy the honey in the morning. No mess and easy. Again love your video's

thank you so much for this EXTREMELY helpful and educational video. I'm a future beginner beekeeper. I have been watching videos on RU-vid for months now which adds up to a lot of videos on just beekeeping. I have not even started my future in beekeeping yet and I just wanted to tell you that your video was by far the most helpful I've watched by far (no joke). I'm one of many who is trying to find ways to do things as cheap as possible, by cheap I don't mean harmful shortcuts that hurt the Bee's or don't work. from what I just saw all your methods of cheap extraction work fabulous, it love that you gave a variety so people can pick and choose what works best for their own situation. It's like watching 3 videos all in one! what a time saver, I just learned 3 methods done cheap, safe and effective in under 10 mins. sir you rock! keep it up I look forward to watching any other helpful beekeeping tips you have.

When you first get started, it is a little on the pricy side. ( I think that's a bit of a shocker to newbies.) But eventually it pays for itself. They are amazing little creatures. And the more you learn about them and their ways, the more you see the direct print of their Creator.

I have a question: Since I'm a master woodworker, I'm planning to build myself a couple hives. I'm going to start with a typical Langstroth 10 frame medium setup, but I'm also going to build a top-bar hive. When building the Langstroth, should I plan for an entrance at the top or the bottom or both? I'm in mid-Michigan and will be setting the hives on top of a platform approximately 24" off the ground.

Don, you share a lot of good tips thanks, I have one you should try, a heat gun on low will melt the tops right off the cells and you can let it drain out. A lot less trouble and less wax waste, a cheep heat gun is the same price as your knife.

If you still want to strain your honey, some muslin/cheesecloth makes a great fine strainer! You can buy that at most fabric shops for a reasonable price, too! I think I'll use a spaghetti strainer, then some cheesecloth, once I get a hive up and running! Thanks for the awesome vi, you seem like a real top bloke!

Now he lost me from buying frames from him and i already have a guy that sells the frames for the same price. Lesson is on that one for people, dont stop the guy from being a cheap guy or you will loose the bit of business you're getting and the more down the road as i grow.

I'm wanting to start a beehive. I use the wax in my candles, soaps, hand creams etc...I also use the honey in my soaps. I'd like to start a beehive. I always buy raw honey, but it's terribly expensive. I'd like to get my own going. What would you recommend starting with...the bare basics? My hubby is good with wood working, so he could make the boxes for me. Where would I order the wax stuff for the frames? Can I make my own bee suit? I can sew. I have so many questions...I'm probably driving you crazy.
