Years ago I bought a Leatherman Surge after watching tonnes of videos with people who started with a cheaper model and had to upgrade this and that and complained about their purchase. I've been a carpenter for almost 30 years. Buy the best first time around and forget the rest period. I added a small mini ratchet, extender and bits. Together with a Swiss Army Champ and you got all bases covered.
I keep a small 1/4 socket bit that fits into my extension for my surge. It works really well. I enjoy multi tools and love your channel, keep up the good work!
I am trying to design a kit around my Leatherman "Crunch". Your videos are a great help. Thank you for the time and effort you give to us.
Hello again! The SOG piece is nice, but the spring is always falling off after you’ve used it a few times. I would strongly recommend coating it in contact cement and letting it sit for a day, the next day presto - you have a great 1/4 bit adapter that is a perfect fit for 1/4 sockets AND the spring doesn’t get lost.
Hello, I follow you from Italy, I watch your video from long time, I love and I used every day multi tools. I think you do the best video about multitools compliments and greeting from Italy
But I would still stay with the LM tool adapter just recently got and love it. That sog setup means you need 3 total pcs to complete where with the original its 2. Plus you have 3 locking positions straight 45 and 90
Gerber has had adapter and driver set for years! Plus you can still get Gerber knives and multi-tools made in the USA. Some are even Berry Compliant. 600 series with exta bits included are popular at our military exchanges including Afghanistan👍😎
Hi iam from Puerto Rico I will like the flashlight that you have there in the kit. And if you can send the links of the accessories you show here. I will appreciate any help given
Merci pour votre abonnement et j'espère que vous allez bien :) Yes, of course, it equips the current SOG models. And it's on sale on the SOG website and elsewhere.
Another excellent video, my friend! I was very happy (and quite relieved) to discover that the ever-vigilant dinosaur loves your edc sheath from today! Now, I need to pick up one of those 1/4" inch SOG bit drivers - that's a winner 🥇
@@diezelle57 unfortunately they discontinued it many years ago, in favor 9f their proprietary but system. Buying an old one on eBay, costs as much as a new Leatherman! What a bummer.
@@diezelle57 they really need to sell a hex bit driver people can drop in, in place of the Phillips or flathead screwdrivers. Why would I need those, if I have a hex bit driver And most of the common bits I use?
@@diezelle57 or they could make one that fits over the Philips screwdriver. I know they won't, though. They made their proprietary bit system to make more money. I'm not sure they realize they're pissing off customers. I have a mind to sell my original Leatherman, and buy an inexpensive multi tool, with better features, and a hex bit driver. I noticed Leatherman has been skimping on their sheaths recently. My 1996 Leatherman Wave, came with a very sturdy ballistic nylon sheath. It's so thick, you can barely bend it. It's still in new condition, despite a lot of use. The newer sheaths look quite flimsy, and a lot of people have had to buy new ones, due to tearing issues
It would have been nice to hear you explaining yourself though... I had trouble following what your point was and what set up should I purchase really? Your voice can’t be that bad right? Well thanks for the video! I do like the pouch you have. What’s it called? Thanks, BIG D

In Indonesia, most of the multi tool are relatively over priced. Expensive 2 me, unfortunately :D but it doesnt stop me 2 collecting (few) of them. U r my most inspiring collector bout EDC. Thamkyou in advance :D
I work maintenance in a very large Grocery warehouse. I have carried the Leatherman Skeletool for several years and found that the proprietary bits are the Leatherman's downfall. The flat bit holder bends and deforms very easily and having to use adapters and such just to use standard 1/4 bits is a pain in the you know what. I am getting ready to try out the Gerber Center drive because it will accept 1/4 bits without an adapter. Is there a multitool that will accept 1/4 bits and have 1/4 and 5/16 nut driver bit storage instead of the tools no one ever hardly uses like bottle and can openers?
Deform the Leatherman bit driver very easily? ... Multi-tools with 1/4" bit driver (without adapter/ for standard 1/4" bit): Gerber Center-Drive, Gerber MP1.
I got all of the Leatherman bits (the two dimensional bits) and NONE could fit the clip on my Benchmade... Then I tried a regular T6 bit and it worked like a charm. Btw your vids are excellent, best regards from Sweden.
I mean, at that point you could just carry a small dedicated bit driver, maybe a 4mm bit driver. Or a pry bar with a bit driver, like the vero fulcrum. I can't believe no one makes a good multi tool that has pliers and either a standard 1/4 hex bit driver or 4mm bit driver. 🤯 Such a simple concept..
Quite an impressive collection. I broke the phillips bit on my blast and the scoundrels wont sell me a new part. Im not sending it for repair,as it belongs on my belt.
Okay I have a question to you, the guy reviewing the Multi tools, If you had to go chooses between the Victorinix Swiss or Leatherman, Which best give the better quality performance?
This "guy" is me. Don't be so familiar with me, it could irritate my audience. Now, please refine your question a little bit, because Victorinox and Leatherman offer quality multi-tools.
@@diezelle57 Right sorry your name was never introduced in the video, I suggest your a guy, bro, dude or sir, It shouldn't offend you when My question is which is better Leatherman Surge or The Swiss Victorinox?
@@robertcampos4204 Dear subscriber. So between the Victorinox Swisstool Plus (with accessories) and the Leatherman Surge. The Victorinox Swisstool Spirit Plus (with accessories), finer, would rather compare to the Wave or Charge. Frankly, these two models are excellent in terms of assembly, quality of materials used and robustness. It is the high end for heavy efforts (heavy duty). But, if it is necessary to choose, I say that the Surge equipped with accessories like a mini ratchet (see my videos), a standard bit driver and hacksaws is functionally superior even if it does not have the quality of extraordinary assembly of Swisstool. Difficult question ...
You have a hard time making yourself understood. So, you want to replace the leatherman bit holder with the 1/4 "SOG adapter. Leatherman bit holder: 5.02 mm thick and 27,00 mm long. 1/4 "SOG adapter: 4.03 mm thick and 34.82 mm long. This operation will not be possible because then the multi-tool can not close again, the pliers touching the adapter before full folding.
The Tool Adapter Kit is no longer in the Leatherman catalog and it becomes rare even on occasion. Here is one and a new one: www.ebay.fr/itm/Tool-adapter-for-Leatherman-Supertool-200-new-in-box-3026/253689126238?hash=item3b110cdd5e:g:y-QAAOSw17pawqjF
You can find the Leatherman Adapter on eBay every now and then but you need to keep checking very often and make sure it's the exact same design as the one in this video because there are 2 different designs made by Leatherman and one of them won't fit the Wave, Charge or the Surge.
The UNIVERSAL tool adapter is rarely seen anywhere (I bought a new one on eBay a few weeks ago, but I paid a lot for it as it was sold as a "collector's item"). The earlier versions are often available on eBay, and I got a couple of those, shipped for $60). I can use that for my Wave Plus and Free P4.
You consider the leatherman bit holder to bulky for your sheath so you get an adaptor from SOG and pinch it with the smallest possible part of the pliers.... Oh, btw... I noticed a bit extender and a leatherman bit set in your sheath. They come standard with the wave right? To use in the STANDARD INCORPORATED BITHOLDER of the wave... And you still have to show me where you put the actual BITHOLDER, 'cause the SOG thing is just the bitholder-holder😈

The Gerber Center-Drive is a response from Gerber to Leatherman after the release of the OHT, multi-tool that takes a patent from Gerber fallen into the public domain. These two models are classified "Heavy Duty", so heavier and more bulky than a Wave for example. In addition, when it comes to the Center-Drive, I find it less well equipped than Wave or Charge (or a Surge for "heavy duty") and it's not its long, very long, screwdriver bit holder centered and the rapid opening by ejection of the clamp which will overcome the deficit of tools which it suffers : it misses a saw, the file does not act as a hacksaw, misses the scissors, etc. In EDC, Wave or Charge, obviously.
I must have spent 20 minutes fiddling with my connections, settings, etc when I watched my first diezelle57 review. Why was I hearing wildlife noises but nothing else, duh, I guess I'm a little slow. But this is how Harpo Marx made a name for himself.
Really "amazing"... Really "ingenious"... What is the purpose of making this "upgrade" when you own leatherman 2in1 accessory - bit extender and adapter in the pouch???
Because it's struggling between the sleeves, just :) Because it is not suitable for standard bits (too much depression), simply :) Parce qu'il tient mal entre les manches, tout simplement :) Parce ce qu'il n'est pas adapté aux embouts standards (trop d'enfoncement), tout simplement :)
Why not take a sufficiently-deep 1/4" magnetic bit holder and bring down the shank so that it fits inside the bit holder of the Wave? If you're concerned about the torque transferring to the pivot point in the handle, here's a general tip you can apply whether working on screws or bolts: an axial shock ('punch') on the fastener generally helps to reduce the torque required to break the fastener loose. The implication: with just the bit installed, a punch on its backside, followed up immediately by installation, on the bit, of the Wave+bit holder, and then applying torque should break the screw or bolt loose. Once broken loose, see-saw/in-out to minimize torque required: the see-saw 'polishes' the threads slightly to reduce friction.
So... F.Y.I. Leatherman makes a 41 piece bit set that is rectangle shaped 2 fit the large philips/flat head bit that is in the wave already, no adapter or extra pieces required
You did not understand the movie :) And sockets and standard bits? I point out that it is difficult or impossible to put two pieces of truncated bits in old or new Leatherman sheaths. And not 41 but 42 profiles! :) And not 41 but 40 profiles for the Surge 2013 which has more eyeglass driver. What about the resistance of a standard bit compared to a truncated bit ? In addition, given the small footprint of the 1/4 "SOG driver ...
@@diezelle57 arent u clever....... My point was, why waist the thought on such things when your carrying the bits anyway, why carry them for an inferior tool and its adaptors
Why use that flimsy SOG ¼" driver if you have the Leatherman adapter? 0:16...The SOG ¼" driver is a joke!! 4:54 - I lost the retainer spring immediately after the first use, now the socket wrench fit loose, not a very well designed product. You will need to super glue the retainer in order to keep it in place otherwise it will pop off.
Try to keep calm, do not panic, the expert will enlighten you! The Leatherman extender does not allow proper use of standard bits (6.3 mm) ... except using a spacer (two small nuts glued) for the extender, a solution that I proposed and I retain but that is not very practical. The Leatherman Tool Adapter can not be stored in the sheath (moreover, it is no longer for sale). I have an old version of the SOG 1/4 "driver and it is no problem. In addition, you said the solution to better solidarity the spring of the new version. In all serenity.
@@diezelle57 Tool Adapter is no longer for sale by Leatherman but you can find it on eBay very frequently so that won't be a problem. The Leatherman tool adapter can also be stored with the Wave multi-tool if you use the large size Leatherman sheath, the one made for the Surge, that's how I carry mine. But anyhow, if you are happy with the SOG ¼" flimsy tool, that's your own personal opinion, I just saying it didn't work for me.
@@250rapid You are nervous, restless but we can help you. The Tool Adapter is no longer produced and it is becoming increasingly rare: just because you have one (I have three) does not mean that it is possible for everyone to own one. And at what cost? The SOG 1/4" driver costs less than $10. Putting a Tool Adapter, the blade case and a bit kit with a Surge in the sheath of a Surge, this means a very tight sheath and a lateral projection of the Tool Adapter (storage in position 90°). As for putting a Wave or a Charge in a Surge sheath to be able to put the Tool Adapter, I say no, the multi-tool will move too much. Did you know that Leatherman no longer sells old sheaths and that tomorrow we may not find any more? The SOG 1/4" driver even fits into the new sheaths supplied with the Charge and Wave. With regard to the spring of this adapter, I repeat that you have found the solution to better hold it: do you have memory problems? I hope that my words will restore your serenity.
