Julia Hartley-Brewer “finds it extraordinary people are still going on” about Britain’s role in the slave trade, after Prince Harry faced calls to apologise in Colombia.
“When are people going to say ‘thank you very much’ for the huge cost… of ending slave trade?”
The Duchess of Sussex wore a “big smile” as she and the Duke of Sussex visited a music school during their tour of Colombia.
Harry and Meghan were greeted by the sound of booming drums as they arrived at the Escuela Tambores de Cabildo in Cartagena, the second largest city in the Caribbean coastal region, on the third day of their official tour of the country.
During the visit on Saturday, they participated in a drum lesson led by students alongside Colombia’s vice president Francia Marquez and her husband.

Forget slavery. The ordinary people of Britain suffered slavery of their own. At the time of the slave trade we had workhouses, press gangs who seized men off the street, and thousands died of starvation, cholera, etc. Infant mortality was worse here than among slaves. The people who made money out of the slave trade were wealthy merchants, aristocrats and the royal family of the time. The current Royal family are of German descent and had nothing to do with it. I want nobody apologising on my behalf as my ancestors were all just poor working people

Well, I'm all for reparations so long as we're thorough about it. Let's start with a lump sum from Denmark and Sweden, for enslaving thousands of British people in the Viking raids. Lots of British and other Europeans taken, too, by the Barbary slavers from N. Africa and the Turkish Ottomans. It would get very complicated very quickly, mind, and I'm not sure we'd ever get as far as reparations for the transatlantic slave trade.

What hasn’t been mentioned here is that The Royal Lodge has been let go by Andy to a state of disrepair which is against the conditions stated in the lease, it’s ok for him and his wife to sit back and tell the King to get lost that they’re not moving but by the conditions of the lease he has no option. People should read a book, go do research and learn!! Spain was the slave owners in Columbia not Britain. And for that matter British royals were the very first of the countries to ban slavery and in fact, went after the slavers and punished them. It was Britain that lead the way to abolish slavery!!!! Go apologize somewhere else else, like Africa and the Middle East!!!

That was the one story that Andrew failed miserably to answer. He spent much time with Jeffrey Epstein without sweating. He took 3 days to tell Epstein he couldn’t be seen with him in the future.

Epstein was a close friend and Andrew spent considerable occasions in his homes where underage girls were brought to be abused.

We forced those in south America to stop enslaving the indigenous population in 1833 I believe. We had already ended the Atlantic slave trade for everyone. The USA (USA wasn't unified at that time) created their own eastern seaboard slave trade.

1, it was another freebie holiday, not a royal tour. 2, the Spanish colonised Colombia, not Britain, so why would we apologise for anything to do with that country? 3, whilst we're on the subject of dlavery when are we in Britain going to get apologies and reparations from the Barbary pirates, the Romans, the Franks, the Vikings, and many others, no doubt, for the thousands taken from our shores as slaves? 4, when will it be acknowledged that it still goes on, mainly in African and Middle Eastern countries where millions are currently enslaved?
