The "instantly" take was actually better than the one in the actual episode, the way he instantly said it

Fun fact, during filming Ricky's giggling was so bad that Stephen made him leave the set and Patrick said his lines to Stephen instead, eventually Ricky got his giggling under control and they managed to film some shots together.

It always get's me how the classically trained, multi award winning actor Patrick Stewart (OB friggin' E no less !!!), Star of hit TV shows, Blockbuster film titles, AND stage performances (And has played pretty much every noteworthy male character that Shakespeare ever wrote), will still agree to do what is, in essence, a totally frivolous bit part role with the stand-up act who got lucky, Ricky Gervais. :D If I was Patrick in that situation, I'd probably have faked having a full on rant at Ricky for being ludicrously unprofessional and ruining every take so far....... Then tell the cameraman to start filming again and scorn Ricky with "Now, Let's see if you can hold yourself together for the next 5 BLOODY MINUTES !". I think the shock to Ricky alone might have been enough to kill the fits of giggles. Then I could spend the time saved taking him out to dinner to explain why I ripped him a new one. :D
