How to set up your palette! This is perfectly covered as well as learning the most basic way to paint in watercolor with success! Enjoy the watercolor journey!
Hello Chris, I’m so happy that I found your tutorials! I am a beginner and have been painting for two weeks. Following your tutorials, I’ve learned so much and I’m no longer intimidated by the fact that I cannot draw. You make the process fun and relaxing. I greatly appreciate you explaining each step as you go. I can’t thank you enough!!
Hi Chris, it's Jane from Toronto Ontario Canada again. Twice in one morning, but this video popped up on my phone after your instructional video on stone masonry. As an extreme beginner I so needed this video to get a good visual of light, medium and dark washes. I've struggled with ruining my little paintings by mostly painting everything way to dark. Now I realize that I need to put light and dark washes next to each other and balance them out with some medium washes to have a more balanced painting. So, cool and warm mixes with light, medium and dark washes going forward. Five months of following your channel and I'm beginning to get it. Already have Daniel Smith and Windsor Newton tube paints, some sable brushes and Fluid brand 100% cotton paper blocks. Thank you so much for teaching me all this in your calm and friendly manner. I'm loving learning to paint in watercolor. You make the journey painless and I intend to be following you for years and years. Cheers 😊
Thanks Jane, I’m really excited for you! I can tell you are really making a lot of progress and having a fun time with watercolors! Keep the fire burning! 👍😎🍀
Not a beginner, but after seeing your prior tutorials using the Prang Oval 16, I decided to buy an 8 count to play with, throw in a go bag,etc... then I realized how cool it would be to have the 16 count to have the warm and cool primaries. I ended up with about 4 of the 8 counts (2.99 ea.) and a couple 16 counts (cheap with rewards points). So what I've done is with my current PO16 is take out the white and replace (as you suggest replacing as needed) with the ultramarine from one of the 8 counts, as blue is used more and white just misses the point of watercolor. Anyway, used them doing a couple projects in a WC class ..they performed perfectly, with brilliant color. To stark beginners, don't fall for the amateur paint snobbery, you'll hear. You don't need high end paint to paint high end, nor 48 colors. Learn color mixing first with a warm and cool primary. Prang 16 oval are really very good quality paints, add a brush and nice mixing area, and they're unbeatable Thanks for great content Chris.
There are actual names and numbers associated with the prang colors. It might be easier to follow if you refer to them by their actual assigned names. Some of the sets have the name list included while the set I bought recently doesn't. Here are the names and numbers as originally supplied: (Side1) WHITE 16 RED VLT 44 BLUE VLT 40 TQ BLUE 35 BLU GRN 39 YEL GRN 39 YEL ORG 37 RED ORG 36 (Side 2) RED 1 ORANGE 6 YELLOW 5 GREEN 9 BLUE 7 VIOLET 14 BROWN 12 BLACK 34. Unfortunately, many were out of the holder but they were easy to figure them out. I organize my pallet closer to the rainbow with mostly warm on one side and cool on the other as follows: (Side 1) BROWN 12 RED 1 RED ORG 36 ORANGE 6 YEL ORG 37 YELLOW 5 YEL GRN 39 GREEN 9 (Side 2) WHITE 16 BLACK 34 RED VLT 44 VIOLET 14 BLUE VLT 40 BLUE 7 TQ BLUE 35 BLU GRN 39 There is also a little known color available but not included in the original set. It is MAGENTA 27. Thanks for the great videos!!!
It looks like your palette is set up as: RED 1 RED ORG 36 ORANGE 6 YEL ORG 37 YELLOW 5 BROWN 12 YEL GRN 39 GREEN 9 (Side 2) BLU GRN 39 TURQUOISE BLUE 35 BLUE 7 BLUE VLT 40 VIOLET 14 RED VLT 44 WHITE 16 BLACK 34 That might help those with that know the Prang colors.
Thank you & I love your videos I find them very easy to follow & you explain everything really thoroughly . I’ve done several paintings so far from both your beginner series & more advanced & I’m really learning allot from your teaching method.
