At 70 years old I was seriously considering purchasing a EV as my last vehicle. Not going to happen after watching the Expense / insurance / charging problems. Who needs the hassle.

@@patientzero291 I'm 74 and getting my Harley ready for Brampton to Vancouver then maybe Washington and Oregon. BTW, nobody seems to factor in the higher repair costs, higher insurance, and faster tire wear because EV's are so damned heavy. I don't worry about the 2035 all electric mandate, I'll stop driving by then but I am concerned for my children and grandchildren. With politics being what it is, everything will probably change by then anyway.

I just don’t understand why anyone would buy an EV. The upfront and depreciation costs are staggering. And the battery problems are mounting. It doesn’t make sense.

Because they are better for the environment. You say ‘battery problems’, this ‘problem’ is that the car is about 25% less efficient in extreme cold weather. A gas car is around 15% less efficient. And you can’t charge that at home. So in this exceptional circumstance that probably around 0.001% of users find themselves in, it’s marginally worse than a petrol car. But it’s 10x easier to remedy.

@@JO-my5ft the batteries are over 90% recyclable. And are used for 10-12 years before they need to be replaced. There carbon footprint to produce these cars is higher than an ice car. But then they don’t ommit any carbon dioxide through their life. And to debunk your next argument, we will eventually (have to) use only renewable energy sources. EVs are still early in their development and life. But they are the future.

The battery has a heater (and cooler). All you have to do is plug it in, just like you would a block heater. The battery's heater will warm up the battery and then charge it. It takes longer to charge a cold battery and it has less range in cold weather, but how many days do we get colder than -15C where most of the population lives?

@@bengt_axle Yes, I've studied it for Tesla. There's not a heater per se. The power electronics shunt current to the motor stator coils and a heat exhanger captures the waste heat which then circulates coolant and warms the battery.

When a combustible engine car is stuck in traffic for two hours or blizzard and runs out of gas it takes 2 to 5 minutes for you or a toll truck to fuel it and be back on the road. What is the turn around time for a EV car to be able to have enough power to make it to safety.

Trying to keep an open mind, rented a tesla model 3 dual motor during the holidays in edmonton. Pros Comfortable car Instant power Easy to use infotainment system. Big cons Average of 20m of driving daily at 0 degrees Celsius, it would use 25% of battery. Luckily, we had decent weather, but after 10 days with an ev, it's a no for me .

What about one women whose ICE car was in the shop and when the dealership gave her a loaner car which was an EV caught fire and completely destroyed her house. I don't see any pros in EV's but only CON's.

@@kevdanga8644 Gas vehicles only burn at like 500 degrees. Where Teslas because of the batteries will burn THOUSANDS of degrees. And the fire departments can't put them out with water you literally have to bury them. THEN after they get brought to the scrap yard WEEKS later they can still catch fire and have many times in the past and are still doing so. They are not even remotely the same. Not to mention the fumes put out are extremely toxic.

LOL. I have a 2006 Lexus ES330; butter soft leather, magnificent sound system, V6 idles so smooth you can't even tell its running, heated seats and wheel, started right up. I sit in a $60K EV at the dealer and its like I'm in a penalty box compared to my Lexus----you can't even get real leather in 90% of EVs, only cheap vinyl.

Anytime the government steps up and mandates something like "All vehicles sold in Canada will be electric by blah blah blah, that is just wrong! We have a Tesla model Y, great car, love driving it. Never considered it to be a daily driver at -35, we understand its limitations and have an ICE vehicle for that. Electric vehicles have there place and work well for what they are!

My car gets 800km to a tank, EV owner mentioned he gets 400km to a charge 🤔 problem with owning EV is the cost to buy and the cost to replace the battery 🪫 if it goes it’ll cost double not to mention it’s not gas engine so to have a mechanic work on it is out of question. Since we are on the topic of EV, the charging station to charge it at home is out of reach as you would need to upgrade your electrical panel in the house to make it compatible with your EV car/truck SUV To me personally this is just brain dead stupidity!!

Omg, all those chargers mean nothing if they're all slow chargers. Leave the slow charge for home..... All public units should be fast charge only. In and out so the next person can use it .
