The Minimal Mom It’s easier now to declutter the crawl space! I loved your video on sentimental items, Dawn. I saved it to watch again once we get to that category.
Yes! Also Erica acknowledges the time to tackle sentimental items will come, when she’s ready. That shows remarkable self awareness and insight into the goal and purpose of decluttering.
When I saw your attic, shed, and crawl space, I thought oh my! Then I realized how many more of your videos I would have to watch in the future and I thought OH YEAH!!! Luv it when you give your thought processes on what you keep versus what you donate.
I love the fact that through all of your minimizing your items you were able to shop your home as well. That was truly amazing. Finding pieces you needed to add the finishing touches. I know it's going to look amazing. I am actually excited to see how it all turned out. I also must say, that I truly love your humor. Whenever I want a giggle or feel good moment, I watch your videos. You and your family are terrific!
Your light bulb moment “The only things that should go in here should be sentimental or seasonal!” Maid my day! ❤️❤️❤️ Your doing awesome with your journey and I can’t wait to see how your living room turns out! It’s even more fun to refresh a space for free🙌🏻
I have watched all your videos and can not believe how much stuff you have . I thought you'd finished when you did the main house but now seeming the attic, crawl space and the shed ...wow . When I did my konmari all I thought was how money I'd spent on things to sit in a cupboard, shocking. Now 1 year on going though it again things I have not touched in the year ..going
I am absolutely loving watching your decluttering videos. You are really relatable and fun, and watching the stuff go is super satisfying. I also love the cozy minimalist home book (found it at my library) and the Minimal Mom.
What I love most about your channel depicting your personal journey from messy to minimalism, is you are currently in process. When I view others, who are several years out and have been living with less....all I see is neat and tidy and wonder if they were ever as boggled down with "stuff" as I am. You, on the other hand, show the the overwhelming clutter and share your thoughts on what to keep, donate, or trash. It helps me believe I can do this as well....tackle one area at time and feel the joy knowing with persistence I will also get back the home buried underneath it all. Thank you for being so transparent with those of us living with the shame.
I never comment on videos but I just have to say I really admire how you identified this issue in your life and then ACTUALLY did something about it. Not just part of the way- all the way. The same thing happened to me a few years ago and I have never looked back. I am loving your videos on this journey because it inspires me to maintain what I’ve done and reminds me why I did it- you are being honest and real and I just really appreciate it! 😊
Molly Broomer I look back still because I still feel in “it.” I use the word minimalist but I am minimalish. Someday I will be comfortable titling myself a minimalist.
I like the idea of cozy minimalism. I’ve never really considered myself a minimalist because the decor seems cold, even though I love to declutter and to simplify my house.
I have a decluttering business, and I recommend that people watch your videos, because you present all the sides, and share the failures as well as the successes, and you are doing it all while living a life. You are an inspiration, and I love that you don't hide the battles and imperfections. Rock on, Lady!
I love the crayons on the wall, truly a sign of a good mom also a good homemaker! I often have to remind myself that one day I will have clean walls and. . . A quiet, empty home. ❤ love what you got, when you got it! 😊
Great work to go in with purpose and find things you can put to use. My preference in our home is for no deep storage, only keeping what i can access and put to use in 30 seconds to 1 minute. Sentimental gets displayed, used or is kept on a shelf. Christmas decorations and the tree are stored in our hope chest in the living room. I do have to re-tidy the garage a couple times a year but we park there every day (life with kids, not everything gets put away we’ll after use), but it’s not a big effort. You are doing so well! As you come across more plastic bins, maybe you could transfer stuff out of cardboard boxes since bins would offer more protection over time and make items more visible and accessible.
i love this, but girl what a space to starage things. a big shed a big crawl space and attic. i love you findings and you think about what you want in the crawl space. if you speak to us, you find what you want. And yes i want to be a cozy minimalist. have a great day and hope you see you soon in your adventure. lots of love Ellen
I would go CRAZY with a dog that size walking everywhere I went, especially when decluttering, I admire your patience with him. There’s a reason I don’t have pets 😄 Great video, again 👍
Im amazed you moved all this stuff....then you mentioned pregnant or nursing for 5 years. That will keep anyone busy, and not able to purge items! You're doing great getting thru the crawl space! Out all gaming stuff, in one place, I the family room, until you find all the components. Then declutter that, as a separate topic. Sporting goods to the garage. Noone will go to a crawl space for a tennis racket! Group like items ... Interim step, but it helps many of us!
I love this woman, she's clever, funny and she has a lovely voice...Many others are squeaky and annoying with way to much talking...Erica is perfect.. i wish i lived next door
Greeting Erica from Australia 🇦🇺! I just love watching all your videos and you have come and done so much now! I love how you have added old items into your living space as decor, myself as minimalist I love to have beautiful things surrounding me as I find it comforting and calming to look at, decluttering for me is things that I don’t have purpose any longer for, their is no right and wrong it’s all in the eyes of the beholder! 👌🏽x
Erica, you may have already thought of this, but that large lovely picture you unearthed might fit perfectly on the wall where your Kallax used to be. Also, you are doing an amazing job on your home. 💕
Hey Erica! I love you all the videos you have made are soo good and real 😍 your efforts 100% your my favourite person on RU-vid ! Soo nice , kind , funny and intelligent love how you are raising your kids ! I’ve become a big fan of your de clutter videos please keep cleaning and posting! Inspired me
Loved every second of your video! It feels real, like you truly know what it means to hang on to stuff. Looking forward to your video about cozy minimalism. And I absolutely love your personality. Greetings from Germany 💛🖒
“Not bothersome at all to get rid of stuff anymore”. Oh, my, I so wish I could say this ! Every item is still a challenge for me. It gets easier, right? Right?!?
You are so lovely and your children are so kind. I feel claustrophobic just watching you crawl around under your home. I could watch you all day, you brighten my day. God bless.💖💖💖
You shopped your home in the best way I've seen. All sorts of lovely goodies to add a little sparkle and beautiful objects being used and useful - so very satisfying!
Just popping in to say that I am loving your minimalism series and that I like how warm and friendly you are to your viewers. I always feel like I've been welcomed into a friend's home and I'm sitting there with you, drinking coffee while watching you work! LOL You are so honest and raw with us - and I love that. Thanks for taking the time to record and share your journey. xxxx
Congratulations on all your progress, Erica!---I particularly like what you said about the "cozy minimalist" and "cold minimalist". I agree completely. I want a pared-down, organized, peaceful, uncluttered living space but I don't like those minimalist spaces that are black, white and gray; have nothing on the floor for comfort or to absorb sound; places that echo and that make me want to put on a sweater by just looking at them---and hearing them. I don't understand the appeal of living in that kind of environment. I want to live in a living space not an impersonal and nearly empty space.
There actually are quite a few people who disapprove of minimalism simply because they think a minimalist home absolutely HAS to look cold and empty - which they compare with a mental ward. I'm baffled at how these people would get to this conclusion and at the malice they regard minimalists with. Some also think minimalism is meant to make people used to being poor (??).
I just don’t call in minimalism and enjoy having stuff that I truly do want to have. So I have loads of books and candles and blankets and nice plates and cups and games... I could get rid of more and I slowly am but I am definitely keeping what I use and some things I don’t use and just enjoy.
@@glockenrein It sounds like you have an arrangement or balance that works for you. I have a lot of books and very little space. Other than books I own very little. I've given away some books without having read them but my intention is to read books then donate (most of) them and have more books going out than are coming in. It will take a long time to have the reduction I want and I may donate more books before even reading them.
That is the coolest crawl space! Ours you have to entry from outside, a small doorway that only a small person can crawl into! You have a treasure trove of stuff! Love that you are donating so much! What a blessing to others! Keep up the great work and making these motivating videos!
Your kiddos and dog are just adorable!! You also crack me up!! Lol!! "I went through a blue frame phase." Isn't it funny how we totally do have phases?! You coming to realizations about things totally helps me, too.
When the youngest, Jack, helped "save mommy" I thought I was going to cry. Then he reminded his mom that Ranger was being rescued, too, which made me crack up laughing. What a delightful family!
Loved this video! Totally motivational! I thank the universe that we don't have an attic or basement in our Florida ranch because they would be filled.
Amazing! I love how you push through and find the time and energy to keep making progress. When you find things you didn't even know you have (we've all been there!) you now take it with a smile and move on. Less and less guilt about the spending? Truly inspiring. Thank you so much Erica! Love from Montreal ❤️ Sarah
I love your enthusiasm . I personally at one point got rid of things I regret and have now been afraid to part with things I need to get back into decluttering my daughter said my room looked like I was moving so I really need to take your advise on the cozy aspect . I think asking my self why I want to keep it will help thank you !
Chanel Crane that’s a real fear. I let go of one thing that I wish I’d kept. My grandma’s bowl. That’s a real fear so I get it. Can you make a donate box and keep it in your attic for 3 months?
Erica Lucas I don’t have a attic but I literally say good bye for about 3 months I have a bag of odd things also thats in my office near the front door that I add stuff to . You are the only minimalist I can relate to , your younger than me and I’m a great grandma but I have attachment to my children’s things and the homeschool stuff now that I have grandchildren . I admit I am a hoarder but working on that Daily . Even learning to not buy and be grateful for the things I have is working towards my goals . Love your channel .
I just found you and I'm in a new sub now I have a crawl space that looks exactly like yours shape wise. The best thing I ever did was totally clear it out a couple of years ago, but that was after living here for over 25 years. I kept my Christmas stuff down there and towards the last few years I didn't even want to put the tree up anymore because I hated going in that crawl space. It was so freeing to clear it out all the junk / stuff I had in the crawlspace , and move my decluttered Christmas stuff to a few bins in the garage. Putting the tree up is now joyful again as it should be. LOL. Looking forward to checking out all your videos!
KEEP THE ROCKBAND! Make great memories as the kids get older. Mine are grown up and in their own homes and we STILL play when we get together!! AND I’m reading Cozy Minimalist too!! I love to watch you go through your stuff just like I do. ❤️
Had trouble breathing while watching this video. Seeing you inside the crawl space with dust swirling around made me claustrophobic. So glad you survived.
You are amazing and so brave! I never would have found the courage to face any spiders in that crawlspace, let alone tried to FILM in there! I really like your style of taking us through your whole process as you're figuring things out. It's so personal and real. Major kudos!
@@katieevans6614 Snakes don't bother me so much. Like, I wouldn't want to come across one in a confined space, but I could deal with it. If I even suspect spiders might be in an area like that, I'd never even go down there. I'd have to send someone else...then burn everything that came out of there, lol!
I think that this was one of my favorites! I loved seeing you plan to integrate what you found to improve your home. I also think it helps to hear your thought process on what to keep and what to donate. The dialogue about your doggie's sleep area and the subsequent comment about your husband cracked me up!!! That was an unexpected surprise!!!
We are a military family and it's unbelieveable how much stuff you can acquire when moving a lot. There are always boxes of curtains that you keep that might fit in future houses, furniture that fits on some places and not others....even boxes of straight up garbage that the movers pack up! One moving company packed up our house plants! They were loads of fun to unpack. 🙄 We are going through the same thing and trying to weed through boxes from past houses. It feels never ending but I know we've come a long way.Your videos are helping me stay on track so thank you!
Wow, you made quite a dent in that storage space! Love that you were able to either use or donate so much of it. And you braved the potential spiders! Well done you. 😊 *hugs*
"Go muscles man!"...😄Adorable. And..."The dog, not my husband - my husband doesn't pee on things in the night" 😄😅 Now back to my own decluttering marathon. Thanks for the humorous break 🙋
When I think back to your first home tour and now, it's just such an inspiring difference! You should do a reacting to your old content next milestone/ channel anniversary you have- it's always good to remind ourselves how far we've come in our journeys!
I kept looking around for a bin that would replace that broken fridge drawer. hahaha :) Through my declutter process I have not been able to just donate empty bins :) I don't want to get to another area of the house and realize I could have used a bin to organize that part of the house. So I am impressed every time I see you donate bins. I will donate what is left when I am done. Using what I have has been a priority for me this go around ( I have attempted to declutter before) ... I was a huge handbag girl and when I went through my handbags a few weeks ago I was really hard on myself and when I was finished I had this huge bag and several small clutches that I just wasn't ready to part with but didn't want to put them back in my closet (where I store my bags) . I do not have a desk area in my home so I decided to use the large bag and all the clutches and made an "office in a bag" ( idea from flylady) and I keep it in the bottom of the coat closet in the LR. It makes me happy that I could find a way to use them and now all my office supplies that I kept is in one place! You are doing a great job Erica and I know I have said this before but .... I love your channel! Hope the rest of your week is blessed.
You're so inspiring me😍 When I was decluttering several weeks ago, I understood - the clutter blocked the way and the view of the needful stuff. I forgot about what I had because of piles of clutter. Then buy something new that I already have. In addition, I started using those items I found decluttering the house. I was so glad having all of it! It's like you feel after amazing shopping. By the way, for me the most difficult decluttering spot sentimental and seasonal items. But one I started declutter it, and do it every month or week, I noticed it's become easier and easier to say goodbye all these sentimental clutter.
Your one of my favourite you tubers, a truly honest and funny individual...I’d be first in the line to be your bestie...love,love,love your channel...you go girl...x
I kept thinking it looked like it was snowing and then realized it was light on little dust particles. I would be sneezing for days. I do every time I dust in my house.
Always looking forward to your videos and your great humour! I am also on the journey to a clutterfree home because I will move to the other end of Germany this year and AM DETERMINED NOT TO PAY FOR MOVING SEVERAL TONS OF CLUTTER... Will start on my basement aka the chamber of horrors tomorrow after work. Perhaps I should send you a before and after video 😂😂😂 You are doing so great - keep up with it!!!
I just love Dawn. She has helped me so much. I love watching you too. You have come so far! I wish I had discovered minimalism when I was younger. I certainly would have been a more patient mother. I was always under stress to be cleaning, laundry, always working. All I can do about that now is share these tips and channels with my girls. Your life will be so much better. Things are just that, things. I wish I would have discovered that sooner.
Sentimental or seasonal. Have to pause to go to work. Going to let this roll around in my brain all day. Your videos are getting better and better. Have an awesome productive day.
I always love coming across channels like this; we live on our sailboat, sailing around the world and always are looking for new ideas to incorporate into our tiny life afloat! best, - Marissa
You are a hoot to watch! I have deculluttered over the years in different seasons. I am now down homeschooling and can see the need to remove much much more! So I am pouring through these rooms and my treat is to watch you and then go and do!
This is really helping me. I decided 5 years ago that we needed to downsize after retirement. However we needed to get rid of all the crap and just what we really would use and really wanted in our new space. After 1.5 years we are closing in and hVe only our shed, basement and another unused room to go. Your videos are so helpful!!!!! N need for the gym with all the moving, stretching and lifting! B
I've been watching for a few weeks but today really hit home! Thank you for being so raw and real. I love it! I can totally relate to you. My house is a mess and you are giving me hope that I could do this too. I'm so grateful! ❤️
