It is a sad day indeed when the redoubtable K Scott is flummoxed!! You show us that to ultimately prevail we need to just keep going & keep trying different things. Well done as this was an epic project. X
I love this use of old vanities. So many around and they have fantastic potential like this! Also - thank you for the comments that brush strokes are just fine. Striving for zero brush strokes can be discouraging - and brush strokes should be expected on artistic pieces!
I used to have what I call "the perfectionist's mantra" taped to my computer, "Done is better than perfect". I heard something on NPR that inspired me to add "we aim for excellence rather than perfection". Together they help remind me of what's important. Great job, as usual!
Thanks for what you said about not having to be perfect. I often forget I'm not making store bought pieces but one of a kinds to be appreciated for my artistic skill! Lovely job!
BEAUTIFUL! I have a piece like this that has not sold like forever. I might just convert them into nightstands. Thanks for what you do, it's very helpful!
I love how these turned out, Katie. They are soft and romantic. I especially love the look of the drawers and the handles. Perfect for a dreamy bedroom. Beautifully done.🌸
Do you think you could show us how to transform those old, outdated, blocky desks? I feel like they're so easy to find, but I have no idea how to make them look more modern. Also keep up the beautiful work!
@@catofthecastle1681 Google "90s wooden desk" and it might help you imagine what I'm talking about. It has large drawers, usually on both sides, and often has some sort of shelf attached.
That’s crazy it didn’t work! I love that stain...It’s gotten super popular lately. That was my thought, to use a shellac to seal it and/or a gel stain. Veneer can be so finicky sometimes. Gel stain is magic in a can.
Great use for a waterfall-type vanity. I know making the stain work was a hassle, but sticking to your original vision paid off in wow factor. Really nice job!
This one of my favorite flips you have done. Love the color, and style. You're the best with a brush. Hello from way south of you in Murfreesboro Tennessee.
I really like those pulls with this piece. I really like what you did this the finish job too. What a lot of work those drawers were, but well worth the end result. Good Job.
Thank you so much. I don’t sell the furniture pieces that I use to create content anymore. They get donated to local charities and sometimes friends or family. I would have listed this set for $450 if I was going to sell them though.
Beautiful! Great work!! That took a lot of work and trying different products. But the end result is worth it! I love the color palette you chose too, the soft colors let the furniture shape and the wood be the star.
From the Potery of the Discarded The glam gal had always made us her center ... She would fuss and preen - pout and smile... We heard the giggles and swoosh of skirts ... But the door was now shut as we sat idle ... Then out to a dark damp place we went ... Covered in dust and grim and forgotten ... The final stab came out on the street Left to the sun and rain and our tears We heard her first saying ,"humm ?" She struggled but up and away home we went. It shook us to feel how she pounded and scrapped and battered and swiped... We could feel her anger but mostly we felt her determination... As the final screw was turned and wipe of sweet butter in our drawers ...we felt clean and new - reborn ! This artist had resurrected us from destruction... To a softness and elegance born from a foregone era ... You watch and marvel and laude But thank the SOUL of this artist For seeing the beauty and still usefulness that can live beyond decades from the past ....
They turned out so beautiful. I see them used in many different ways. Thanks for showing the whole process and how you worked through the fails. You were rewarded with knowledge, shared it and a teachable moment of persistence and the payoff. Love all of this.
Your perseverance paid off. End result is stunning. I have my grandmother’s waterfall chest. I’ll save this video, just in case…thanks for sharing your talent.
"Perfectly Imperfect" absolutely true!! You do a FANTASTIC job on all your projects from what I see. These came out great!! Hoping all is well Katie, Dirty Jersey out!!
Those turned out beautiful. Definitely a mission figuring out those drawer faces but..WoW! The look when they were finished made it totally worth it! This may be one of my top favorite transformations I've watched.
Nice piece! :) You give me so much strength. Many times I come up with a design for a piece of furniture, but I don’t like the color, or I don’t like the texture, or nothing works out...But I'm like I have to keep going like Katie does!:)
Oh MY! Loved them! Always appreciate you sharing your struggles. Confirms you are human, and not the super hero peerless furniture flipping wizard we know you to be. 😉
Hi Katie, they turned out beautiful but man they were stubborn to work with, this is where your knowledge and experience shines through....Take care...stay safe...
Thank you very much for always showing and discussing with us your “happy accidents” and how you fixed any issues! It’s not only helpful, but it makes me feel better knowing that you never stop learning, even when you’re a pro!
Beautiful! It was nice to see you try a new top coat. Would love to know how it compares to your trusty diamond wood finish? Also, spraying the primer seems so much easier. How many cans did it take? Wondering if it’s cost effective? Gorgeous color combos! Keep up the good work!
Nice pieces. Ya, they were absolutely not playin' easy with you. I'm glad you kept the wood patterns showing. I'm kinda surprised you didn't keep the strip above the top drawer as well. You're right you have a much better chance of selling them as two nightstands.
You are brilliant. So enjoy how you give second life to so many pieces deserving one. We must all look for existing furniture before purchasing new one. In your case, not only Mother Nature approved, also stunningly beautiful.
Hola Katie, es hermoso todo lo que transformas con tus manos y tu gran creatividad, me encantan tus videos y la forma tan sencilla que explicas el proceso de cada transformación. Saludos desde Los Ángeles California 😊
Beautiful, Katie! Nice choice in paint color and drawer stain. It's such a great neutral and looks so fresh! You must have really been set on the vision you had for this piece, as you persevered without hesitation! I think if that had been me, those drawers would also be Oyster Gray, haha! Thanks for sharing with us!
These nightstands are stunning and truly works of art! Great decision to keep the directional wood grain exposed on the drawers. That along with those amazing drawer pulls added to their one-of-a-kind look! Just beautiful. 👏
So helpful! I am a newbie and I thought I was a flop when I had problems with getting that whitewashed look. :) I went to the Google too, but this is especially reassuring coming from an OG flipper :)
Linda here....Good Job! So very beautiful so very cool! You sure have 2 nice pieces there to be proud of! I really enjoyed this video and your determination was inspiring too.
Firstly what a gorgeous piece of furniture, and secondly you really did it justice even though that paint effect gave you 'a run for your money ' ,Thank-you for showing all these stages even though it was tricky for you. X
It turned out great, not my cup of tea though. My preference would be a dark stain on the drawers rather than a white wash, I'm not a fan of washes or too much pale washed out colours like beige and pastels. I like colours that pop and contrasting bright colours and black or dark chocolate. My bedroom walls are bright orange ... including the ceiling, curtains, bed spread, bookcase.
Seriously Katie, you definitely persevered and succeeded and it goes to show you how things don’t always go according to plan. That said, it looks awesome.
Love this! I just painted my first laminate furniture with shellac primer and chalk paint. Turns out, I'm not a fan of the color and will repaint. Do I need to prime again before painting again?
