weirdyoda04 it’s actually MUCH safer than an oxyacetylene torch, because 1) the hydrogen-oxygen mixture is generated as needed by water electrolysis, so there is no stored flammable gas 2) oxyhydrogen explosions are much less destructive than their oxyacetylene counterparts because there are less particles of gas on the products side than on the reactants side. Balanced equation is 2 H2 + O2 ==>2 H2O, meaning that there is a total of 3 moles of gas before the combustion, but only 2 moles after, which means there must be a net decrease in volume across the reaction, as per Avogadro’s Law (one of the gas laws in chemistry). 3) the only product of combustion in this reaction is water vapor, as stated in the balanced chemical equation. Therefore, there is no danger of carbon monoxide poisoning. I hope that clears things up.

There is still a fragmentation hazard but that's what flame arrestors are for adding a proper blast catch box will minimize the mentioned hazard. At that point it's just as safe as a cigarette lighter but in the event it does detonate you might get startled but that's about it.

Alex Burkan it depends. I find that if you take a stainless steel tube slightly smaller than another and hammer them into eachother with a section of hose as a spacer it produces more than enough pressure

3 years later, let me tell you and others, buy the flashback arrestor and don't cheap out. Buy a cheap power supply, it'll blow your breaker. Buy a cheap torch, it'll melt. Fuck up your flashback arrestor and you're probably going to die.
