Hi Larry, at around 16 minutes into the video you are in the 'poor' section of the city. Yet all the young children seem so very happy and pleased to see you with your camera. They may not have much in life, but they know how to be happy with whatever they have. Bless them all.

Being poor is not such a problem if everyone around you is also poor. It's relative. However, if you are poor but live right next to a rich neighborhood then you will become very aware of how little you have.

I live in a slum in Northern Mindanao. I am not sure about this slum, but hired some of the boys and cleaned the trash up. Wish we'd thought about blogging it. I know it's not a permanent fix, but it keeps my kids safer. I wouldn't trade it for the world, though my asawa would in a heart beat. I just can't live in the USA anymore. So much talking about "fix-fix-fix" and not enough getting out into the world and doing it.

Ive been to many places in Philippines slum, rich district etc.. but there is some places you really don't wanna be walking at night... it can mean death. My first visit way over 10+ years ago did learned that lesson, walking arround super dark and no lights. Got mugged and nearly stabbed. Don't walk to places where its dark, slum area.

@domokun6157 Only having been exposed to Filipinos in the US I can't imagine them being violent, but apparently they can be. In the US I have never met one who was not a professional , usually in the medical field.

I've been in so many slum and poor areas around the Philippines 🇵🇭 and its so very disappointing to see and that the government there doesn't do anything about the poverty around the Philippines!!!,, but I have been able to help afew familys over in the Philippines 🇵🇭 before.

It's seems interesting, obviously it is a slum, but the walkways look cleaner than the homeless camps in the u.s.. I'll betcha the drug and alcohol problem is not too bad either.

I wouldn't change a thing with/for these people!... They seem a hell of a lot happier, and more pleasant, than the people that I encounter on a daily basis!... I live in California (U.S.A.) which has consistently, for decades, had one of the top 10 richest economies IN THE WORLD!... California, with it's economy, "carries" more than half of this country (U.S.A.)!... Yet, everywhere I go... all I see are people that are miserable!... It seems that everyone, here, is bitter, angry, depressed, bipolar, disrespectful,... you name it!... If it's a negative character trait,... you're likely to encounter it on a daily basis!.. 😒 Not to mention the homeless situation here!... It's out of control!... Druggies (drug addicts), and criminals run rampant in the streets, parks, and shopping centers!... In fact, one would be "hard-pressed" to find a public park, in ANY city in California, that has NOT been taken over by the homeless, drug addicts, and/or criminals!.. 😞 Now,... you guys wanna talk about living in filth, AND poverty?!?!... Try spending (living with the homeless) a couple of months with the homeless here in the U.S.!.. 😣

I have many Filipino friends living in the slums of Manila, Cebu or other big cities in the Philippines, sometimes in more extreme conditions than those in the video. I visit them because they are friends, I appreciate them and respect them. I'm always welcome. I have always been careful not to practice any forms of voyeurism. I admire their good humor, their positivity and their confidence in the future. They are great in courage. They are proud to be Filipino, to have a close-knit family, to have values, culture and philosophy. They know how to welcome and share and are happy to share their lives. They have a lot to teach us, not the other way around.
