Impressive, Captain Kyle. From the professional ways of the deck crews to the fine touch of the Captain. I, too, am from the Great State. Always interesting to hear stories of friendships on the River.
You are a classy man. I could hear you playing Beethoven’s ninth Symphony in the background. I worked as a summer deck hand for a couple of years in the early 70s to save money for college and became an engineer and now retired. Looking back, if I had to do all over, I should have stayed on the river, and worked my way up to become a captain. I think your job is more challenging and rewarding, not to mention the time off to enjoy fishing.
Awesome! I watch you all the time. I am about 9 miles north of the dam on pool 19 (Mississippi river). Some beautiful views for sure. I love to watch your videos!
Moon shining on the river is a Beautiful sight! Awesome stories you share along with the pretty sights from your wheelhouse, So Cool 😎 Thank You Captain Kyle for showing us how low the river has gotten, what a ride ! Stay safe. We appreciate you making time to get your videos out for us to enjoy. Keep them coming 🙂💙
Great to see someone doing this type of channel. Having worked on the Big Muddy for around a decade I've did my share of MBT in every type of weather and worked with some great crews and some not so great but I loved every minute of it. I worked mostly Tiger Fleet and Red Eye here in Baton Rouge as well as the old McKinney fleet where I got my feet wet in the industry. My time out there was from 1990-1999. Been all the way to Chicago and ran the Illinois which I HATED... Was glad that was just a fill in trip :). Looks like you're runnin a 5600hp boat Kyle? Your buddy runnin that big 10.5 for Ingram though.. :). I've seen the river pretty Low in my life time but never like this.. Stay safe out there and catch ya on the one whistle!!
Hi Capt Kyle, you sure do get to see some beautiful sights on the river. Moonlight on the river is gorgeous! Must be hard on the customers to have to put less in the barges because of low water.
You make us okkahomans proud. Thanx for making these videos that show exactly how hard these boat crews work and the importance of our waterways in this country.I live right off Robert S Kerr lake on the Arkansas river. I’m sure you’ve been through here.
Thanks for the video Captain. I thought corp of Engineers was gonna release water from Barkley and Kentucky Lake but last week they was still at winter pool
I was interested to see one of your electronic displays showing the current river mile location. I'm just a pleasure boater, and don't think I've seen that before on my chart plotter, although I do occasionally see one river mile marker on the chart for reference. Your display looks like it updates the river mike marker continuously as you travel. Does that capability require a special commercial nav package? I assume it is all connected with the magic of GPS.
Something I wanted to mention about the low water on the Missouri that is probably not noticable on the Mississippi is that when we are parked on a sandbar and a towboat is coming up the water will drop to the point of our boats being totally beached and after it passes the water will rise to the point of the boats being washed off the bar, the towboat is seriously pushing some water out the back and the river pretty narrow.
That’s common on upper Mississippi and Illinois (narrow locking rivers), specifically in low water when it’s not running much, and with Kort nozzles vessels. If we are running hard it will suck water off bank. If not careful, it can cause issues for boats on the bank.
Had to look up those Kort nozzles, interesting. That water rising behind the towboat will wash away the bbq's, lawn chairs, coolers etc of the new crowd, us old school river rats see the boat coming and respond by getting our boats off the bank and ride it out in deeper water.
Year's ago I worked for Buck lay at B&H towing out of Paducah KY. It's a small world hell I was just a kid at 18 yrs old starting out! Man that was a culture shock and wake up Green as all get up! Like the videos brother brings back memories
