I adored riding the mantaray before it was banned! All of my horseback riding and bull riding friends never had any issues. You just have to know how to ride amd hope a gust of wind doesn't take you out!
the main problem is if the boat stops too fast you can fly into the boat, thats what was breaking backs/necks and killing people. But yeah i rode one one time, it was amazing, and then i crashed into the water, and that was fun too. But i can see how carelessness with something like this can lead to death.
when these first came out three people died in one summer where we take my wake boat, several people has severe and permeant spinal injuries, and no one wore a helmet so concussion city! They were thee most ridiculous and expensive come and go summer toy I've ever seen!
Patrick Swayze I know right?? We wake board also on my dads boat, (different laws over here, can’t drive certain sized engines until you’re a 18 unless having someone eh is fully licensed And over 18). We bought one but I ride bmx,and snowboard so I’m used to wearing helmets, so we started off slow, getting a little faster as we got more confident and used to it, but we be slight movement and you can hit the water from 20 plus feet at high speeds, which actually broke my collar bone! My dad has been into barefoot skiing, waterskiing and now wake also for many years, and after the had a bad fall we never took it out again! But the point I’m making is that as after with your opinion that these idiots not wearing helmets are asking to end up with severe head trauma!
Wow, glad I read your review lol. Makes sense. Ppl really underestimate the water especially when it comes to concussions. I used to go to a summer camp that had “the blob”. I used to get severe headaches after being launched on that thing.
James Glenn what country are you in bud? Here in Aus you can get your boat licence at 16 I believe? Glad to see you have a smart head on you young fella, good to hear 👊🏼 I skydive, paraglide, paramotor, often fly planes at the drop zone and local charter flights for a friends company, but my point is even when I’m just ground handling my wing I still wear a helmet regardless if it’s on sand or at the park, it just takes one slip or a big gust of wind to take you off balance and (well not for me) if you’re not experienced that wing can take you and drag you down the beach it park in a heartbeat! Keep livin and lovin life little bro 👊🏼
Andrew Goldin hahaha yeah, a mate has one and I’ve seen some serious injuries from those things hey haha As James said, the water at a decent speed is like hitting concrete hey
These are illegal because it's all fun and games until a huge gust of wind picks up the "already flying" tube and goes crazy, causing the tube to turn upside down and crashing into the water at 40mph and causing a broken neck or even death
ohh boy memories of the ways i used to hurt myself, got a rogue gust of wind once while i was up at least 25ft off the water, that hurt something fierce, also anytime u crash from air to water moving fast is never a great experience
i'll bet ebay... i was told that this thing was taken of of the market as people were getting hurt... i'll bet if you do find one it wont be cheap. I was told that West Marine used to sell them but they were pulled off of the shelves
@MetaI4Brains $300-$500 is not really that bad for a tube my neighbors just bought them one that cost them around $700 and its a standard tube for the lake!
i rode one of these up in Mass. IT WAS AMAZING! It feels like a normal tube, but i suggest do this with three people and take a side, cause middle will fling yuou OFF!
When I was smaller my dad could "full throttle" out skii boat and i could do this on a really small Tube like maybe 6' in diameter its the most fun thing i think ive ever done! There isnt anything like flying haha
Weren't there openings on there wings as to create lift when the air went over the wings? Kinda like a parasail canopy, dunno but there was a rush getting one here in fla, until of course,,as in previous comments accidents were happening, word has it a person towed on one went up,up and way up,where as the flying wing/tube then went left,to right then back until this person slid off.and off by way of 70 plus ft.in the air due to the length of the tow rope, being over 100ft in length. A yep they we're taken off the market!
Ok lol idk about anybody else on here....but @1:08 scared the shit outta me unexpectedly....omfg....i am literally laughing at myself right now....to the point that i scared my dog out of her sleep and shes now worried about me..so cute but so fucking funny on my end...:)
@mongorians22 well if you grabbed the basic idea form one material of idea, you can turn that idea into a weapon like this video example. If navy need very small and flying devices this shows that you can do that here, just put a huge engines on the boat and the manta ray (metal type) then boom, u got a simple submarine go with it to be used, if anyone know how structure submarine to depart into a boat and the boat launch the flying unites up the sky. Of course it sound like fantasy.
congraz u just made a simple weird idea of making one the military idea. The reason why is that the design will be taken and the military force will save up lots and lots of gas. Now... they have figure out how to make it go very fast with submarine or make giant sub-boats to be very powerful in speed to left them up in the air.
Every death recorded where i live is from kids doing no handers thus having no pull on the front end sending them head first into speed boat created waves at speeds exceeding 130mph head first. I am no rocket scientist but i dont think the spinal cord or neck can handle that shit. srry about grammer.
@1238freeman they had alot of people getting broken backs, my dad bought 1, cost around $1500 AUD and yeah, now nobody wants to ride it because everytime we take it out people always get real fucked up on it
i was going to buy one of these and take it to lake greeson in arkansas, but found out that they are illegal because people kill themselves on it. If there is a tube notorious for killing folks.....i want it!
no you cant get them in the states. they are illegal. we got to ride them wen we went over to spain. damn they are actually easy to grip onto. but it takes lots of commitment, and it does hurt like a bitch when you fall
@iamevildoing immagine going 40+ feet flying at 55+ mph - faceplant at those speed and altitude and trust me ur going to the hospital in an ambulance most likely struggeling for your life :)
@much2kanabis Good suggestion. I think I will go to the library. Do you know how many people have gotten killed on this exact tube? It's illegal just about everywhere.
it would probably work but ur arms will get ripped off if u dnt have enough power to keep them straight, thats because of all the drag thats created when u r being pulled....
I live in Minnesota I'm on lakes and Rivers All Summer Long. That's what true minnesotans do. This is the first time I've ever seen this I don't know why it's not a thing here. We have 10.000 + Lakes not to mention Cannon River St Croix River Blue Earth River and more. Fun facts there are over 800 thousand Boats in Minnesota with a population only a little over 5 million .
I'm no engineer, but it seems to me these could have been a lot more safe if they had two rope connections, for stability. Too bad they killed so many people and will never be improved and sold again.
The manufacturer put clear warnings on these things that state that you should never hover over 8-10 feet and inexperienced riders should never go above 6 feet... It's clear that this is supposed to be working in a stable ground effect, prevented from being unstable in flight due to the constant (towing) pressure from the underside on the front. People barely had it inside acceptable ranges for this entire video. No wonder everyone was getting injured on these things... People were riding them. People, as you may know, make some of the worst decisions possible, on a regular basis.
