Hey party people! Thanks so much for hanging out with me while I share this NEW playroom declutter with you! Extreme in fact haha! Alex and I estimated that I got rid of about 50% of their toys and stuff in this room, would you agree?! Less, or more? I also share with you the rest of my day, I had to run to once upon a child to consign some stuff from a declutter my older girls and I did the previous day in their room and they got some money back for their gently used clothes! I love Once Upon A Child, they're incredible! I also share with you this GREAT curry dinner recipe! It was super easy and quick to throw together and most importantly it was delicious!! I hope you enjoy hanging out with me in another addition of 'around the house happenings'!

Whenever kids visiting go to play in your house, Don’t let them leave until they clean everything they played with. The first times they will look at you like “HOW DARE YOU MAKE ME CLEAN”, but later on they’ll remember and tell other kids “don’t make a mess or you won’t be able to return to your home, EVER!”

Oh we make them clean ... but they don’t care haha clean to them means everything is off the floor. It’s “good enough” but I’m hoping now with less they’ll be able to put stuff where it belongs 👍

I take a picture of what should be in each bin and tape it to the shelf. My little guy is a great cleaner upper. I taught pre-k and it really helps.

My daughter had playdates a friend of hers from school, her mom not once offered to have my daughter over there. Her daughter would refuse to clean anything up, then her mom started just leaving her at my house for 6 hours when it was supposed to be 2, and it was always an excuse I have an emergency. Sure the first time not horrible but everytime. Did that all 3 times. So basically was a free babysitter. She still messages me and I don't message her back. Maybe harsh but no thanks. Nope not doing playdates again unless it is with neighbor kids and they are outside with the other parent present.

Kids play alot better when they have less....their imaginations grow and they get more engaged in their environment.... If you cut back on the categories of toys that will help too.

I bought cute bins with wood tops at home goods and sorted all my kids toys. Put in closet and only take out one bin a day. Life changing! They play with them now! Sort and rotate girl!!

Watching you clean the play room brought back so many memories! I have four kids ( all grown now), but I remember spending hours cleaning and organizing their toys, clothes and rooms! I had those sentimental feelings for their toys too- too funny! I also found so many good clothes for them at thrift stores and yard sales! Love your videos!

We just had twin sons for a long time, and always stored the masses of “little” things in Rubbermaid-type totes. I would cut out pics or draw pics of what was inside, laminate, and tape them on the boxes so that THEY knew what was inside: Playmobil, Legos, matchbox cars, dinosaurs, Superhero figures, whatever. Made cleaning up sooo much easier. We also limited how many boxes they could get out at any given time. No system is perfect, but it worked great for us. Had a 3rd son when our twins were 7. Still used the Rubbermaids, but the age gap in our case also kept things easier than the closer ages you deal with. Still, tossing it out there FWIW. One thing…I’d keep the real favorites, both clothes and toys. Our boys are grown now, but they still love the special outfits and toys I kept for them to pass down when they have their own littles. (Some have also turned out to be pretty rare and valuable! Priced the bigger Transformers lately!?! Furbies? Tomagotchis? LOL, kinda crazy!)

It’s Disney’s fault!! Since they made Toy Story 2! Every time I go to throw away a toy Jesse’s song pops into my head and the image of a toy crying in a dumpster rips me apart. The devil in my shoulder tells me, “ITS A TOY ITS NOT ALIVE, THEY DONT HAVE FEELINGS”. While the angel in my other shoulder says “THEY ARE A PART OF YOUR KIDS, THEY ARE LOVED, JEEP THEM”. I recently grouped all of my daughters like toys together using ziploc bags because I was not about to pay $20 for organizing bags from amazon lol but it’s been working great! She would get so much out and then get overwhelmed so she wouldn’t play with anything. She’s allowed to play with what she wants, but only one bag at a time. We’ve been using this “system” for about a month now and it’s been working great! Also a tip for everyone’s littles that enjoys the chunky block puzzles but hates the pieces flying everywhere... use velcro dots to hold the pieces in place! They can still take it apart and work the puzzle but they don’t lose the pieces every time!

When my son was little coupons were a big thing. So, to encourage the use of coupons, as well as give him something to do while we were at the grocery, I told him whatever he saved by using coupons he could put in his bank. Plus it helped with his math!

My problem with decluttering is I'm very nostalgic. Like that pony you made. I lost my mother as a young adult and I would have loved to have something she made with her bare hands that I played with as a child and had so many memories with and pass down to my littles who never met my mom. You could also put the cinnamon ornament with your christmas ornaments and put it on your "special" ornament tree you have. Memories are often forgotten with day to day life and so to find something that brings back sweet family memories... *sigh* see, It's a problem. 😂😔😫😭

@@thewadsquad awww thank you. Yes, a mother is everything. The loss of one is a pain I can't describe. I know everyone is scared of being a hoarder and being a minimalist is a new trend, but anything I was able to hold onto that she made is a treasure. Of course I didnt keep everything she owned, lol, but things she made with her hands, i.e. a cross stitch of a mother holding a baby that says motherhood is love, the baby blanket she knitted me as a baby, a quilt her my grandmother and great grandmother made are a few things that are priceless to me and maybe considered garbage to someone else. Also her half used perfume. Anyway, sorry for the rambling 😂🤣😂🤣🤦I'm just saying I'm glad you have memories you'll be able to pass down to your littles too 😌

So I’ve worked in a daycare and the way we used to keep toys out was basically keeping 5-10 books out and available, 4 puzzles, 2 sets of building materials like blocks and magnatiles, a set of cars/mini dolls or animals enough for 1-2 per child, and then 1-3 “one person” toys which they could take turns using on their own or with one friend. It really cuts down on the clean up time and allows for the kids to focus on their play and get really creative! Might be worth a try in the playroom!

Hi Kim! I love, love, love seeing the new house tours. It reminds me of the fun, and excitement of when my husband and I were on the hunt for our dream home. We are in Southern California, and I loved looking at probably 30 different homes before we found "the one". I had a checklist of all the non-negotiable must haves, and we found the home that checked off all of our must haves. You will know it the minute you walk in. It was a definite vibe! My mom had bins that she would rotate out. We had a ton of toys but not a lot of “types” of toys. We had legos, barbies, dolls, tinker toys, horses etc but only legos OR tinker toys OR marble run were in the playroom. Then every month or two she’s rotate the toys. We never had too many & when there is less they have more creative play. I do the same thing in my kinder classroom. It really helps.

I started my "minimalish" journey 10 years ago...with the toy room when my then 3 year old essentially dared me to throw away all his toys. Dang if I didn't empty out (and organize) his toy room in 45 minutes flat. I allowed him to keep a couple of hot wheels cars, his markers/crayons and paper and his chalk board. I gave him 6 weeks to start asking for things back. He got back the toys he asked for specifically and then a few strategic sets of toys that forced/allowed him to use his imagination when he was playing and everything else went away. It was glorious! And even when we added little brother to the family, I didn't add toys! Win. The rest of our house has slowly followed suit.

The market is so competitive right now. My first time buying a house and going through all the steps. As soon as houses pop up in my area they go pending. It can be discouraging when you find one you really love and have to pass it up, but after a few months of the grind we finally got an offer accepted and are under contract. LOL! "Eleanor played with", You made me laugh out loud with that. You read the book title. I work in a childcare center. In the tool bag, I put a kids drill. When I worked in preschool we took pictures of the toys and taped the pictures to the shelves and bins so the kids could just match them up and it worked so well for us! Can't wait to see another house tour!

You're reminding me of cleaning the playroom we had all the time! My daughter had a toy chest that looked like a Weeble Wobble, & it was full of Littlest Pets & accessories! This was 15 yrs ago, & I still can't get over how often she & her friends would just dump it! They were only like $5-6 ea, so I picked them up often, & they're incredibly cute, but added up quickly, & it mushroomed! Otherwise, the only nightmare was the sticky kitchen thingy, & once a mo, I literally got down on all 4s, & cleaned everything from the floor to 4 ft, & it was amazing to see the world from just her perspective, & in spots, it was sticky, too! Enjoy!
