Danie! You gotta make a knob board to display all your knobs! Hang it on your wall as art but also a display board so you know what you have. 🎉 you're crushing this build. Love seeing it come together. Keep being awesome. ❤
She could do a big medicine cabinet and have storage for knobs in the back and instead of a mirror in the door she could make a knob display/art piece. This way the hinged door would let her access the knobs if she needs to remove them and use them for a DIY project. The art piece can be ever changing as the knobs get used up.
Idea for new series: "I was gonna..." where you dig into a bin of unrealized projects and finally do something with them. We all have them, so it might be inspiring 😁
When we downsized, I had to clear out all my fiber (weaving & knitting yarns, spinning fiber) and all my tools. It was exhausting (I didn't have a Jess to help me) and it also made me realize how little I had paid attention to what I already had when I bought new stuff. I got it down to about 1/4 of its original size, moved it into our new little home, but now I seem to be collecting more. Again! So watching Danie is a reminder to me to go through my stuff, pull out what I want to give away, and STOP getting new stuff.
That's the ADHD speaking 😂😂 I'm the same. The only difference is I physically can't buy all the supplies of all the hobbies and crafts I want to try. I simply don't have that kind of money lol .... But if I did I sure as hell would also build a giant Studio to fit everything in😂❤ she's one of us and we love it
At this point in the video especially (14:40) I found myself completely overwhelmed by empathy born out of my own experience with long overdue decluttering efforts. I can't begin to express how deeply those words resonated with me, but believe me: you could have just been reading my own inner monologue aloud in that moment. Thank you Danie (and everyone else here in the comments+community who have expressed similar thoughts and tendencies), for helping me to feel less alone/wrong for being this way! ❤❤❤ Incidentally, I've been re-considering getting an assessment and diagnosis as to whether or not I do actually have ADHD, and y'all are very much a part of that. My burning question is: has knowing "for sure" made a positive difference for any of you reading this, and if so in what specific ways? I'm aware that 'every neurodivergent brain is different ' but I feel compelled to ask because this is probably the third time I'm circling back around to the question of whether getting diagnosed might actually be better than trying (and largely failing) to improve my situation using the non-clinical resources and strategies that ADHD'ers across the internet (diagnosed & self diagnosed alike) have offered as helpful options.
As a woman with ADHD, your studio looks just like my craft room. I hobby-hop so much to follow the dopamine, but I'm known to circle back to previous hobbies so its never worth getting rid of! Marie Kondo did nothing for me XD my current method is 'if it got poop on it, would I clean it or get rid of it' and so far that's been working for me :P Just keep trucking on, you got this! X
Same! Honestly anything out of sight is out of mind for me, so bins turn into black holes cuz you never think to look in there unless you label everything meticulously
1. Here's all the Cricut stuff. Let's move it all into the new studio and then decide... ". NOOO! Thank you Jess for starting the process correctly and sorting first. You're a great Number Two!
Everyone needs a friend like Jess. I had a friend help me unpack a pantry box after a move. She said, “You have 7 jars of mayonnaise. You need a new pantry system.” I wasn't a hoarder of mayonnaise, but couldn’t find it.
I love the cat lamp! ❤️ You could keep the shade and just add hanging crystals all around it at different lengths! It will look like rain under an umbrella 😊
Isn't it amazing what you find when you go through all your craft supplies. I once found one of my children packed away in a bin. She is the quiet one, so I actually don't know she had been missing.🤫 Don't worry she is 36 yrs old now and only resents me slightly.☺️ Shout out to Jess for showing up for you!🌺😀
When you turned the camera to the back side of the stuido, "Oh, Danie" came out of my mouth. I remember the last time you organized the studio. 😂 No judgement, I have my own mountain of hobbies and diys 😅 I'm so excited for all of this, I have to remind myself that the studio is never really going to be finished. You're ever evolving, moods and styles changing. I can't help to imagine 2, 3 years from now. When you're in there working, so into a project that it's second nature to be in that space, we're all going to have that moment of, "Damn, She built that". ❤ Stay weird Danie!
OMG! Thank you so much for the shout out! Topless Tammy looks amazing in her socks!!! Love that you one of each! Can’t wait to see the new studio when it’s all organized!
I'm fairly minimalist myself. And while I don't encourage you to be minimalist because you do have great things, here's a thought that may help anyone refine any collection. Instead of thinking, "but what if I need this", think, "if I want this down the line and don't have it, what could I use instead?" This encourages creativity, instead of encouraging the urge to keep every tiny thing. ❤
Danie, IT'S TIME TO BREAK OUT THE GIANT WHITE BOARD! Get a list going, cause you can do anything but, you are one person so... will you? Are you really gonna build a new paper cabinet? Do you have time to design, buy & build _while_ you are finishing the stairs, whole garage and decorating your studio? Baby steps woman. Baby steps & giant white board to help you organize your thoughts. (Build a pretty frame & stand for your board later!) 😂 ❤❤❤❤
Answer to your question: “why am I like this?” answer: because you are a true creative. You know how to “play” with media and your curious spirit allows you the freedom to explore, whilst your endless courage allows you to learn how to use multiple media. It’s the very reason your channel is so fun and engaging for me❤
You are not alone in craft hoarding. Just watching this makes me feel better about all the treasures I have accumulated through the years, and kinda makes me want to go through and organize it all. Thanks for sharing your journey:)
I tell people I have a mini-Wal*Mart in my house. At least it keeps me from shopping all the time like I used to. But I do lose things, so... really not the solution.
This was so much fun! I had two thoughts that might be helpful. 1. Take pics of all the knobs and keep them in a digital album so you know what you have. 2. Potentially build Kenobi's bed into a wooden frame and put casters on it so you can easily move it out of shot if needed. Can't wait for more of this series, it's been incredibly fun and inspiring!
Danie.....welcome to the club. You have ✨ADHD✨ the hobby stacking, supply hoarding, the stimulating dopamine of having more than 1 type of drink at once.
I felt this video in the depths of my soul. Crying in unorganized craft mess. Also - I kept buying trash bags cause I couldn’t find trash bags. My mom came over to help me organize and found TEN BOXES. so I feel you on the knob saga.
I'm also a "jack-of-all-trades" type, and even though it's extremely difficult to keep track of it all and properly organize my supplies, I love it about myself! Knowing different media is like knowing different languages. Some of my ideas are perfect as a painting, but others are better translated as dioramas or sculptures or a written story or even an instrumemtal song! It's a great thing about you and one of the reasons I admire you so much❤
You made me feel soooo good ! Coming from a family that don't share my love for crafting, I can feel their inside eyes rolling back whenever they see all the things I keep. 😅 Now, I feel I am part of a community. 😊 You build yourself such a beautiful space. 🤩 I wish you years and years, and years of happiness in creativity ! 💞
It was very relatable when you hit the shelf of things you were going to upcycle/reimagine. It's hard when you can see potential in something but only have 24 hours in a day!
14:56 meee ttoooo ADHD + creativity= chreataos 😂 One thing that helps me is to put projects you think about aside and jot down a note on an idea list you keep up in the makers space. Here’s the hard part: You have to learn to discipline the creative mind and make a rule that you can’t start new projects until you’ve checked an old idea off the idea list. You already listed of “I wanted to’s…” in this video! Maybe make a day of the week you get to look forward to for finishing or making that old idea you were once excited about! If the old ideas haven’t been done in a year then they get donated. YOU’VE GOT THIS 🙌🏼💪🏼
mornin’ ❤Kenobi reminder - there was Green ethnic piece of a woman that i wanted from the other studio a few years ago. if you still have it, i still want it!
From one hoarder to another, I have had longer to gather, you know how a dragon hoards her treasure! Well my daughter says “mom, do you really need this” creating flames out of my mouth! Well, I don’t actually destroy or burn her, after all she is “my” baby dragon! Anyway, I had to downsize to a senior apartment! My bedroom “studio” is packed full, she did a lot of organizing when I moved in but there continues to be too much stuff! Watching you, makes me feel like it’s ok, as soon as I can find my glue gun 😅
There is nothing more confronting than cleaning out the choas chamber for an adhd’er 😂 we never realise how much random hobbies and sidequests we do until we find all the supplies 😅
I identify with you!!! I had my sister visiting recently for a week and she is a crafter also so she really helped me while here, we got a lot done so I felt energized. That enthusiasm lasted a couple of days after she left. I’ve lost my enthusiasm 😢! I loved this video, you made me laugh so much. I absolutely love your channel and try to watch all of them. I’M SUBSCRIBED!
My sister works at a retirement home and is always looking for craft items (books, paper, yarn, pens/pencils/markers, etc) for projects with the residents. If you have anything leftover from your yard sale, maybe see if any local homes want some of it before a thrift store. Or even maybe a local elementary school (depending on the supplies)? i feel like it would have a better chance of being used rather than ending up in a landfill! :)
Ahh, you are an inspiration! My craft/sewing room is a dangerous disaster right now, but with determination and perseverance I shall conquer this Everest, and will sew again!! Thank you for showing us that this too can be done! Thank you Jess for being such a good friend to Dani! You are both gems!
OMG, it felt so good to see this, I’ve been doing some purging after moving and been feeling like I’m the only person with that many craft supplies laying around. Plus, I desperately need a Jess in my life.
Oh Danie! I feel your joy and pain! My craft room is pretty packed, brings me joy and oh crap feelings. Everyone needs a Jess! And a wienerdog! I'd come help , but will send good vibes for now.
I’m so impressed by younger you’s creativity, I adore that comic strip of your doggo, I would love to see an actual artsy book about you and kenobi and maybe some guest appearances by Frankie and your old basset hound
Really jealous actually that you had so much fun!! Going thru and sorting so much fun stuff with your friend - into a new beautiful space...wow thanks Danie for letting us in on it!! Loved it! I am also a woman who loves knobs, handles, small wheels and stuff!!
What about using a part of the pegboard in your old studio to display all of your knobs? It uses 2 things you already have. You could just put 2 vertical boards with some velcro glued on the face so that the peg board is removable in case you need to remove and use a knob. Hang in there Danie, it's only when we move that we figure out we have way more crap than we even realize. Hang in there! As an organizational savant, I would suggest using some of your black vinyl and make labels for all of your bins/drawers so you know what's in them. I raised my hand to volunteer to help organize, but my husband told me that would be creepy, so I'm leaving a comment and throwing you some of my great organizing mojo.
I have never realized how much we have in common until i saw your supplies today! Just wow. It is so darn hard to get rid if anything with creative potential. I think there is a DIY for this conundrum...let me know😂
Hi Daniel. Following the sudden death of my husband in July I’ve been having trouble concentrating on anything. I can’t watch tv, read or socialise. I have however watched every episode of your show going back 5 years to present. I am in awe of your talent and motivations . I’ve been unable to work for the last 3yrs due to physical and mental health issues. I find craft art etc therapeutic and like you I try lots of different materials depending on my mood and if my hands are sore. Unfortunately I don’t have your space or money so I am limited. I wish you all the luck in the world with your show. By the way your hair is better short and blonde.
I have always loved your videos, but I have never felt like I had more in common with you until today. The chaos, the multiple projects / hobbies / ideas. The "I can do something with this," thing... Welcome to my dining room / office / craft room / whatever. LOL
I too recently hired a professional organizer who began with the end in mind. First (before touching a thing) categorize. Then move items into the category. Then sort into keep, donate, toss. Then organize within the category. I have the following groups: knitting, quilting/sewing, paper crafting, and genealogy.
I saw pouring paint kit, lots of canvases, a lazy susan and some empty big bins, so there has to be a paint pour session in your future. That I would love to see. Your studio is like a craft supermarket. And it feels like unwrapping Christmas presents. Hard work but fun.
Please know that you are comforting my heart with the contents of all those boxes. I just moved after 20 years in the same house. Downsized. Lots of boxes left after 7 weeks of unpacking. Yes, you are encouraging me.🥰
amazing job you two. im comforted knowing theres someone like me out there always moving around to different projects. i cantttt wait to see the new studio come along i might be drooling im so broke but i hope i can join in on a diy with me meeting one day, that sounds so fun!
Can’t wait to see you build the cabinetry where all of your supplies and goodies will be stored. I know your creativity will make the most of those builds. 👍😊 Have a great weekend and week ahead! 😊
yes to the blanket covering a piece of furniture....next week even. you are like my friend, she has me there to keep her from going down memory lane or a rabbit hole...keep her on task....
I am currently starting to organize my own craft room. And I find that I have gathered art/ craft supplies for all possible crafts… (and hoard it) so I totally felt your joy/confusion/pain this episode
I am clearing a room next week. Thks for giving me an extra nudge. You rock! Love all your explanations for keeping stuff. You never know when u will need it! Organizing helps, and inspires to start creating!! 😂🎉😊
OMG, I’m clearing out my closet and thought I’d watch a bit of my favorite DIY wizard, lo and behold…we’re twinning!!! So I’ll watch you, put my two cents in, then I’ll ask your opinion on whether or not this item makes me look ……whatever. lol. Yeah this is turning into a great day!!! High five
I would love to see you volunteer in a community theater as their prop manager or at least their props artisan! You could inspire so many people of all ages. ❤ Knowing so many different crafts and thinking "outside the box" within a deadline while enlisting others' help are the only requirements!
The idea of pullout storage, is great. I thin that would be a great idea to utilize the space. shelves on the side that you can both slide to the side and straight out to get to stuff.
