The sun is actually closest to the earth in winter. (Perigee) It is this combined with a full moon at Perigee that makes a really high King or spring tide.
@stevejensen3471
@stevejensen3471 3 года назад
Actually it's the new moon phase where the moon is between the earth and sun that forms the king tides! Full moon phase has the moon opposite the sun on the other side of earth and detracts from tidal amplitude.

The people who were swept out to Sea where within a tide expectancy of 9.5 foot rise in water level. If the wind is a steady offshore breeze of 30MPH, this will hold back the swell (extremely dangerous condition). Once the breeze changes back to inland, it will release a swell that may be several feet depth change in a mater of 20 to 30 seconds. If you are in a flat plane area that rises 9.5 feet at a distance of 1,000 feet back from the water line, you won't be able to run fast enough to escape the incoming tide's rise. Also, you can expect the King tide to rise above the visible water line at least a foot or more. Need to have some discussion on safety practices regarding such events. Here's the tide time table: www.tides.net/oregon/1794/

This did seem to have less to do with the tides and more to do with global warming predictions.

lmao, the sea levels aren't rising, check the data.
@alanlowey2769

Agreed. It isn't sea level rise, it's due to a rise in earth tides. Earth tides push the ocean from underneath: www.express.co.uk/news/science/1308437/dark-matter-news-scientist-moon-core-theory-newton-einstein Yes, climate is changing but not necessarily due to man-made CO2 emissions. A modified theory of gravity allows periodic extra tidal energy to transport heat from the equator to the poles. This brings increased precipitation which falls as snow. This accumulates into advancing glaciers. Glaciers are always melting but if the extra snowfall decreases then the glaciers retreat and the world enters an interglacial. The snowfall of Antarctica has increased by 10% in the last 200 years which indicates the planet is slowly entering the 100,000-year cycle. CO2 is a default mechanism from out-dated ice age theory. This is what Arrhenius based his research on and Greta bases her alarmism on.

Under water volcanism might impact sea levels more than meltwater

Its an extremely slow process, not like we will wake up tomorrow and the ocean will be higher. These people will all be dead long before any noticeable difference will occur. High tide happens.

Sea levels are NOT "rising." There is NO "global warming." If that was the case, all the beach front property would be very cheap... Also, all my friends in the Marshall Islands were supposed to be "under water" by now.

They said it happens every year so how is it different this year. It looks like the people built Dutch style below water level; what do they expect? You can't build on the coast and expect it to be like high plains desert or Midwestern prairie. They explained why it happens in the first 5 minutes. Go back and listen to the part about the moon. The moon is responsible tor tides in general.

"when the moon is closest to the Earth" Did they measure how close it is with a measuring tape or something? How do they know? I'm pretty sure the moon is just a light in the sky.... Not a rock in "space"

So what you build too close to the ocean anyway give it some room man and the thing I live on the Columbia river is going dry I'm 63 years old I know the Pacific Northwest the trees are all gone it's being ravaged to hell and back I was just in my boat a kayak I've been monitoring the water the bottom is Raising from the bottom of the river that's why you don't notice does not know volume of water anymore and I'm being invaded they closed off your sink and state Oregon to keep the masses from running to Washington State I am having mass amount of people move here they're not even citizens of the United States I probably think that they're getting ready to dump this whole thing when I was a child it was Arizona Ocean View now my boys are telling me it's going to be clear to Montana

Had you put your emphasis on safety, and encouraged parents to stay away from even the top of the high water line the father and their kids might have headed that warning. Instead you chose to encourage people to go out and take photographs. I hope KGW has learned something from this. There is a legitimate safety concern, and a politically correct hysteria that distracts our attention from real safety hazards. Also, the people encouraging people to take pictures are morons. You can take photographs of the high water line as the tide is receding so you don't put yourself at risk of being swept away.

@@walkamassie5788 Point was about how KGW is handling the situation to put people at risk. Very dangerous news story to ask for people to go out and take photographs. KGW is 100% responsible if it can be proven that they watched the news story & made their decision based on the news story. Where are the hazard warnings??? No excuses, or deflection of responsibility. You put out information that puts peoples lives at risk, you stand the responsibility for doing so.

Tim Kasey some people enjoy seeing this kind of thing, it is truly amazing. For the morons that want to ruin that for others just because they lack the common knowledge of safety then that is there own fault. KGW is just showing this to people that were not able to be there to watch it.
