Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on RU-vid!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...
WARNING
Abandoned mines and ruined structures have many hazards and can severely injure or even kill you. Do not attempt to copy or re-enact situations or scenarios seen in this video. Stay Out and Stay Alive: • Gly Says... STAY OUT S...

Mr. Magnificent, I'm 66 and kind of messed up my knees skiing when I was younger. I've been using Ace knee supports for over 15 years. They're the kind made out of something like diving suit material with a hole in the middle for your knee cap, and held on with velcro. They make it possible to take care of my land and get out hiking. I also found that trekking poles help a lot on steep terrain. Not to take weight off my knees, but to stabilize my balance, especially when going down hill. It takes a lot of sideways stress off my knees, and I can concentrate more on what's around me than where I'm stepping. (Keep looking out for snakes though.) I'm working on trying to get my weight down because it's amazing how much that helps. But my God it's difficult! Kudos for getting out to the far reaches and high places.

@BlankBrain

@@Adventcha Take care of your wrecked knee; they don't improve with time. Avoid things like jumping off a tractor. I had a friend who worked in a warehouse, who jumped off the fork lift onto concrete floors for over twenty years. He's had both knees replaced, but can barely get around. He gained a bunch of weight, didn't do the required therapy, and got addicted to pain meds. I see knee replacement as a last resort. From what I've read, Somalia was a hell of a place. I hope your knee was the worst damage, because that place could wreck your mind.

@@BlankBrain thanks mate I try to nurse the ol knee as much as I can around the farm but it’s least of my problems now, suffer chronic neck pain from carpentry injury in 2015 and two days ago I broke my wrist 🙂, also have had shoulder reconstruction and a fused left talus joint in my heel from falling six metres off a roof in 1998. I am what one would call a walking disaster waiting to happen 🙂, i still get around pretty good considering am 53 and have the body of a 70 something year old, i was going to start my own RU-vid channel a few years back hence the channel name Adventcha ( play on words as Adventure already taken) , but have spent most of my time recovering from some sort of injury or another 🙂, Kev

That was a Hot bulb Diesel hit-n-miss engine c.1920 in the cable house. Most of them ran on kerosene. Engines like this but running on oil well gas were used on oil well pump jacks up into the early 1970’s here in Wyoming.

@@mfree80286 The hot bulb is how these engines are started. You have a plug that you heat with a blow torch, some have a burner that hangs below the heat bulb. The bulb was heated to red heat than you can start it.

Here in Arizona we called ‘em “hot ball diesels” because the mine blacksmith would get a steel ball from the ball mill drum and get it red hot in his forge. Then he’d grab it with tongs and drop it into the hollow of the engine head and the engineer would start cranking/pulling rope and the engine would fire. Maybe.

Agree with your comment that the mine workings were a lot older than the 1988 date on that newspaper. Second comment of the day. Watched the video and read the comments. Saw a couple comments about moving the cameras too fast and being jerky. Your panning shots are excellent - as in when turning around the speed is perfect: any slower and folks would start taking naps. The beginning shots/intro are appreciated by most, showing the terrain and the vistas. Any longer might not be a good idea. Keep it up - the number of views keep climbing so you must be doing it right!
@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces

“Gly”: Some folks get motion sickness when watching fast paced editing like what I did here in the intro but that number of individuals is low compared to the bigger picture. The important part is how the inside of the mine is filmed so that it feels slow and fluid as if you were there yourself. I wish a select few of other mine explorers would adopt this style and try harder for a smoother production.

Awesome video. I had a family friend who my Mother helped take care of after he had knee replacements, who used to have a couple of mines in Nevada in the late 40's. He watched the Atomic tests from their claim. He told us how much rock they had to mine and take to the refinery to get just a small amount of Copper, Silver & Gold. It was crazy how much it was too.

Excellent video and wonderful intro. I want (but who am I to say what I want. lol) you to load up next weeks video now. So enjoyable. You guys are tough and I bet many of us worry about Mr. M tracking all those hills and inclines and so forth. That is a heck of a workout and not easy for us guys 50ish and older (at least for me). My heart is young, but the hills are steep.

Hmm... I recently was eating some swirled ice cream and found myself carving the goodiness out like a stope! It angles down and got thicker and richer the deeper the stope got! But soon the vein played out and I was left with A LOT OF VANILLA OVERBURDEN! Alas, local regulators required complete restoration of the site so I disposed of the material by traditional methods... (Errrup!)

“Gly”: Lol... interesting. I just got done eating Cherry Garcia ice cream. Very little vanilla overburden but plenty of cherry and chocolate nuggets. 😋

So the miners were after gold and lead? I did not see much quartz (I thought that was the indicator for gold content). Hard to believe the miners achieved all they did. Looking forward to part 2.
@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces
@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces 3 года назад
“Gly”: Often times secondary metals were mined as an additional source of revenue and that was the case at this mine with lead and zinc. The primary commodity at this mine was gold but it was disbursed all throughout the ore body and that’s why it required crushing and cyanide leaching.
